  1. what the hell is it anyway?
  2. from what i've read on here i think 555's will be fine for 16g's. not 100% though.
  3. so, for instance, would you think they'll take about 500-600fwhp?
  4. dont know how you lot manage that? i can only stick it for so long then some moron in a (insert wannabe boy racer car here) always has to go and make me press the pedal again. and why did they not make the N/A with the TT axle, shorter 1-4 and the same top? it would actually be quite economical on a run then, i'd imagine?
  5. now thats interestiiing.... still got the eng out atm. does anyone know what torque the 6-speed's rated at and what kind of money they fetch?
  6. so is the hamster going to be back on the show anytime in the near future then?
  7. i ran boost jets (0.6mm - im a greedy sod) and got just over 1.3 bar on stock everything apart from full exhaust (straight through, just 2 4'' backboxes) and an HKS intake. it went like the proverbial and was slipping the rear toyo's in 4th as it came on boost. brilliant laugh. engine lasted nearly a week too then it killed 3 pistons (on different sides), 2 headgaskets (due to the oil the pistons let through), both turbo's, etc etc. now i have fridays old engine and its getting some proper surgery so it can run like that properly. any ideas what mine would have been making? i dont like to guess really but it had 265-17 toyo proxes T1's on the back and in a straight line would try to break traction in 4th. :o)
  8. and theroetically the auto CAN be faster to accelerate (doesnt have to back off for a gearchange before 60) but in reality this is VERY hard to replicate. i think when nissan claimed the figures they just calculated what was possible from x ammount of traction, power, weight, etc. then when people road tested them allsorts of figures came up due to different people testing them in different ways. if they both sit at the lights, in gear but with NO throttle movement and wait for the light to change then go the manual laughs at the auto (tried it) but if you abuse-launch the auto and manual there is little in it. i was still getting (very) slightly better times in the manual though.
  9. full boost after 4,000? my manual starts at 1800 and its at full by 3,000-3500 every time. the auto doesnt appear to start boost untill 1500-1800ish but then builds to full by 2800-3200. the last time i saw a Z take untill 4,000 on stock turbo's was my last manual running on 5 1/2 cyls. lol
  10. true. i do like the 12v 2.1's characteristics too. quick response turbo, loads of torque. dead nice to drive day to day and round town because you're always in the power (start to boost at tickover and full by 1500rpm). i dont want the 1.9 as i've had a few and TBH i find them a bit too peaky for a 406 (real power from 2500 to 3500). also i had the 2.1 in an old 605 and just with the RPM restrictor removed (wound out) it got to an indicated 140mph! not all that good on diesel when you're using them but much better than the petrols. just a bit dubious about buying a car with 180,000 miles on it. the 2.0 T petrol has only done 130,000 with full history and its immaculate in and out.
  11. i think the V6 is a fair bit quicker TBH. not that bothered though. its just gotto be reliable and acceptable to drive. wouldnt mind a 2.1TD exec if i could get one for low money but they are either too much for what they are or they've done more miles than the enterprise.
  12. the thing that gets me is that if it was built to make 470bhp he'd have had it set up on a dyno. i would seriously doubt he'd spend a decent tuning wedge (£1k+ min if he doesnt like his car) and then not pay the £40-60 for a dyno or 2? if he's not talkin bull he should be able to pull his graph out and show you. and at that power level he'll deffinately lose more than 20bhp whatever car he's got.
  13. sounds about right. its the same with vauxhall and renault wheels. aftermarkets usually go but origionals wont quite.
  14. depends on what damage its done and what they charge for labour but its going to be a fair old whack i should think.
  15. ok then. cheers for that.
  16. only a 20hp loss in transmission? think i'll have to get one of those then. lol where did he get it tested anyway? usually they give you the rwhp before the fwhp on the printout? and if he hasnt even been to a dyno i'd say 350whp max and he's full of it.
  17. looks like me stopwatch wasnt that far out then. lol
  18. ^just what he said^ lol when you do this the 'box oil is working REALLY hard and will get really hot. it just kills the oil off a fair ammount quicker but it does make it launch better. i also found that i got better times by starting in normal mode (against the handbrake(!) and a little footbrake just to hold it) and 3/4ing the pedal for the 1st half of 1st gear (no wheelspin) then flooring it and it automatically swaps to power mode.
  19. cheers steve. its the engine im most concerned about. i've had 406's before but never a petrol turbo. looking at it it looks like a 1.9 GTi engine canted so i'd presume its that with bore/stroke changed and turbo'd? if so it wont be stressed as the GTi is claimed at 130bhp? so after the 100cc increase the turbo'd probably only pushing +15bhp through it? just hoping im right and its not an old designed 80-odd bhp lump with a load of pressure running through it (used to be the french's favourite way to make an engine series last another few years).
  20. i was looking at the xantia's too but was put off by their looks, build quality (lack of), suspension that costs if it breaks and re-selling it would be a nightmare. you can get a turbo activa now for about £600. tremendous value but the 406 is (IMO) much better built, nicer to drive (never been a fan of citroen suspension) and deffinately a lot easier to sell. i was looking at the TD's aswell but i've had one and it was a bit too sluggish. i'd have a 2.1TD but they're like hens teeth and have usually done a million miles. just fancy something comfy with a bit of spec and a bit of midrange to knock about in. and i dont have much money for it. lol
  21. you drive a Z and NEVER creep over the limit? ME TOO!!!!!! lol
  22. nice one si. i know they arent quick (drove it) but i do like the leather and the comfort (its an executive so top spec). it looks like a 205 GTi engine layed down but i've never known anyone who's had the turbo. i know this series of engine likes its cambelt changed but after that im clueless as to what the turbo does to its reliability. this will be more of a car to cart the missis and kids about in comfort and it'll probably be getting used a lot so i need it to last at least a bit. its also a replacement for my dead lexus (cambelt went after it had allegedly only been on the car 10k..hmmm).
  23. look good mate. GS sport if im not mistaken? wandered if the wheels off my lexus would go on my Z. guess thats the answear then.
  24. i think the auto gets quoted at 7-odd secs because of the way they launch it. they must just wait for the go then press the pedal. if you dont mind abusing it a bit (which will make the oil cooler mod and regular fluid changes a must) i think you can get fairly close to the manual. on stopwatch timing (so not really accurate but an idea) i was getting 5.5's in the manual and 6.0's in the auto.
