always best to be careful, though. at least get the heads checked/skimmed. if it was me, i'd be thinking im worknig on this car and i dont really like the job...do i want to do it all again? just remember if it all goes pear shaped you'll be :slap: ing yourself.:D

yeah but didnt you say it was a none runner because of a head gasket? if so, this may have been the cause, with the water level getting too low. this leads to overheating and warpage. so if there is coolant in the footwell, check your heads and matrix or you may be doing this job just to do it again:eek: this is not good, because you will shout and curse a lot and either sell the car off cheap, get another engine or have to do it again and if the matrix has gone, you are gonna have to do it sooner rather than later if you value your engine. The other way around it is to bypass the matrix altogether but like you said, its getting cold and that would mean no heater/demister.

if you are getting the heads off, fix it while the car is in bits. it will most likely be much easier than with it all together. you may even be able to get to the hoses!!!!!

dont worry about it too much, mate. its just a very big very difficult meccano set. it will go right sooner or later. and if you get stuck there will always be someone on here to guide you out of it. like i said...easy:D

AFM, Dual POP fitting, and even more detting
i gotta admit its got me. being electric/electronic, it throws loads of variables up. could be timing, but you would assume that the chip would take this into account as part of its design. if its detting at 8psi, is it detting at higher pressures? it really sounds like manifold pressure sensor. i take it the car starts and runs normally off boost? which would take out the tps and cps sensors. so if it runs fine off boost, we then know its something to do with the ecu not getting told its boosting or not doing the right thing about it. i would double check all the wires/plugs to anything to do with the pressurised side of things. 8psi is lower than safety boost, so shouldnt be a prob even in extreme cases unless the car doesnt know its boosting. hth. si.

AFM, Dual POP fitting, and even more detting
did you have the chip mapped before the swap? could the resetting have lost it its new programme and sent it back to factory? if shooting a load of fuel in didnt help, is it fuel pressure and/possibly pump?

HKS Filter owners should read this!
is that each side or a full kit? do they do a kit to include nice hoses to the tubs inlet/tub-intercooler/intercooler-manifold?
-
AFM, Dual POP fitting, and even more detting
manifold pressure/boost pressure/throttle/other sensor not doing all it should? loose wire? loose connection?chip not fitted 100%? it has to be lack of fuel and i'd hazard a guess at it being something to do with the chip or something which has happened in the process of fitting it. dirty/broken airflow/mass meter due to the metal filaments coming back at it as you come off throttle? dont know if thats any help. just a few suggestions. good luck. si.

HKS Filter owners should read this!
there's an HKS in mine, but not for long after reading that. i like the look of the blitz and my brother is running one on his mildly modded civic with no probs so far, but if the apexi can clean that well and give the best performance, thats the way im going.

and, yeah. if you have to work outside, its always in a pool of oil in the rain with a thousand cut knuckles. seems to make it more worth it when you finish, though.

for hard to reach stuff, make sure you have the best tools for the space in that tight engine bay. a 1/2" drive may not be as usefull as a 1/4". a word of warning, though... if you are going to use a smaller drive to do/undo bigger bolts (head studs, etc) use a good quality set as cheaper ones tend to round things or break. also, dont forget spanners can reach a lot that sockets cant and vice-versa. good hunting. si.;)

forgot to mention... im probably gonna be doing this job in a month or two's time as im having larger turbos and want to upgrade the head gaskets and studs while im there. being honest, its a tight squeeze, but looks relatively straight forward for the job. i've seen worse cars to work on. (like the caterham 7 with the turbo'd rover V8)!!!!!:D
