  1. Try a plumbers lamp, although cos its a flame it'll do it quicker but you do run the risk of setting fire to your car if your not careful. On a side note, if your gonna put sound deadening back and don't want to spend loads on dyna mat, cheat and use self adhesive flash band. Just warm it on when you apply it. It sticks better. Its the cheap alternative to lead flashing on houses. But it ha good sound deadening properties as well.
  2. I got a rebuild kit for the tubs, its an upgrade kit for $65. The only thing it doesn't include is step gap piston rings. Which you can buy from melett for the princely sum of £2.68. Search through some of my older post there are links there as I don't have em to hand.
  3. 16-17 would be absolute max for stock tubs as far as I know. They run a lot happier at 14. Over 14 you're gonna need forged internals, bigger intercoolers, better radiator the list goes on. Personally mate I'd go for 14 PSI and have it running happily all day long rather than push it too far and run the risk of something going bang. There are companies which will refurb your tubs and upgrade em to stage 2. By machining out the housing and fitting larger impellors. There is a company in the states that will do it. However they will only ship inside the states. Tub upgrades I spoke to em and they seemed pretty cool. HTH
  4. Which engine warning light was it? There are sensors in the CAT to detect for unburnt fuel igniting in the CAT. If you had a loose coil pack it could be you had unburnt fuel in the CATs. As for smoke couldn't say mate. Like Jimmy says you need to see what colour it was. If I was you I would just keep a close eye on things for a while gradually push the car up to see if you can recreate your problems. Hopefully it was just a bad connection to the coil pack.
  5. Alex (Mowerman), Grove Park(SE12), London, Blue LWB Jspec TT man, anywhere.
  6. I'm prolly gonna get hate mail for this from StellaZ, sorry for this mate but you do look like an older, tatto'd version of Chunk from the goonies.
  7. To put the car in terms of cost for you mate. Mine was in very good condition when I bought it. It had loads of history had new suspension, new hicas arms, as well as a lot of money spent on it, with the receipts I've got for it. I thought I was buying some trouble free motoring.   How little I knew. The car had some small minor faults which I set about putting right. I ended up having to get a new PTU, MAF,PCV valves, 4 wheel alignment, just had to buy a new exhaust, the turbo's now need refurbing, as well as a whole load of other things. If I was paying a garage to sort the turbo's out it would cost me somewhere near the £2K mark. Because of how hard the job is. I'm having to do this myself because I can't afford it. I have bought some new and uprated parts which I'm gonna fit because the car needs it. I have owned the car 4 months. Most of the money I've had to spend is in the last month and I've probably when all is said and done spent the best part of £2K and I think I've got off lightly compared to some of the other drivers here. On top of that there is insurance etc. These cars cost so much moeny to run its not even funny. Its just cos we're all obsessed maniacs that we do this. ;) In all honesty if you want something with a lot of power and a lot of fun factor but relatively safe get something like an FTO, 2l V6, its n/a front wheel drive, they rev really high, with a nice exhaust they sound amazing. But being front wheel drive they are very forgiving. I know someone who is selling one that has been looked after very well. Also the insurance would be a lot less. Then you would find a happy balance. Give me a call if your interested.
  8. white Zed going up Ladywell road in ladywell, nr station heading towards brockley. Looked nice as well :D
  9. Honestly mate as a reasonably young driver myself, you are biting off more than you can chew. These cars whilst fantastic do have very high running costs. As I'm sure everyone here can tell you. (I'm not talking hundreds of £'s more like 1000's). I hear what your saying about taking it easy and learning the car but to be honest mate you are not going to have the experience, I'm just talking about physical control of the car its road sense. When I was 17 I had 3 crashes in a year, because I wasn't prepared for what was happening around me. And with a zed things happen a lot faster. How would you feel if because of some small mistake you wrote off your baby. I'm not trying to lecture you I'm just trying to make you understand the reality of owning one of these cars. Best thing you can do is give me a call. (Alex 07737 012429) With regards to the car get it taken to a specialist who understands 300zx's. Not your ordinary garage or even nissan. Theres Zed world in tamworth nr birmingham. I'm sure there are others near your neck of the woods. Personally I'm from London so I don't know your area too well.
  10. The victims should be allowed to throw bricks at them. See how they like it. People who do that should become bio armour for tanks. (ie strapped to the front) or human crash barriers. At least then they wouldn't be wasting oxygen.
  11. There is a build centre in croydon that does courses for builders by builders. They may know something or even have a course because spraying is similar whether its paint on a car or high build wall coating on a wall. they both have to look even.
  12. so I take it that means they not the same fitting as the z32? Sorry very tired and hung over and feeling somewhat dense.
  13. Was wondering whether these would be suitable for my car they look to be in good nick, thought they were right then the seller added extra details. Not sure if I bid correctly now. I wanted em as they would save me a fortune on buying new ones. engine mounts

  20. Anychance you could show us how this goes maybe write a little guide because I'd like to do mine but I'm afriad of making em look worse than they are. Which would be pretty hard, admittedly but its amazing how little effort it takes to completely sod something up.
  21. Dammit. Can we come??? Ugh not fair. I wanna go.  LOL. Have a great time m8.
  22. You should be able to it says you can buy em seperately in the manual that andy duff posted the link for. When you say control unit do you mean the master unit or the remote for the master unit?
  23. Don't think there should be a problem. If you've got a good tyre place near you they should be able to tell you what you can put on the rims. I have 255's on my rear rims.
