  1. Yes can do, oh and traced a major part of the running issue on yours today, will pm you later. Jeff TT
  2. A few pics of my set up today, I use the small vacuum pipe to the fuel damper as a reference point for captive pressure, I do not use the pressure gauge as any guide, if you have a good leak anyway you will not build any pressure, don`t try and keep it under 5 psi either and never had any seal issues. Jeff TT
  3. continue.... Nice!! Jeff TT
  4. Many of the UK zeds that passed through Zedworld in the early days ( late nineties) still had the pre-delivery engine bay protectant still in place, this should of been removed at the pdi point by the dealer, surprisingly we still come across this issue even 20 years after they were sold by dealers!! Cleaning off the coating is a mucky job but although there is still zeds out there with it on its a lot less now, a zed in today had the protectant still in place and was sticky with age and very dirty. The overall look of a nice zed can be spoilt by a dirty bay so with a few basic solutions a brush an air line and a couple of hours its surprising what the difference, today`s example is a nice zed and enjoyed making it sparkle again. So here part of the slam panel has been cleaned Continue...............................
  5. The gasket is best changed, get one from an auto gearbox specialist as it will be around a fiver, Nissan one is four times that and is essentially the same. As far as fluid amount, you will not be draining the torque converter cooler and lines so make sure you have at least 4 litres and when you refill it put 3.5 in and then top after you have run it up. Note: if yours has a drain plug do be fooled that the sump is empty, the boss for the drain thread is 3/4" inside of the sump so getting on for a litre will still be in there so be careful or you will be getting covered in the stuff. Jeff TT
  6. Yes its a metal micro mesh strainer, I use brake cleaner and the air line which deal with it quickly, petrol will be ok, once clean flush a little auto box fluid through it to get rid of any remaining petrol. Jeff TT
  7. You did use fuel pipe designed for fuel injection? normal fuel pipe is not re-inforced and will leak soon again, if not ask for fuel injection suitable pipe. Jeff
  8. Not far from from where I live. Jeff
  9. Usually after an overnight shut down most of the pressure will have gone. Jeff TT
  10. Okay the pcv valve topic has been done many times but never wanting to miss a good photo opportunity a pair of really knackered valves presented themselves today and the camera was close by as always. The breather system relies on these one way valves been fully operational to prevent oil laden air been drawn into the combustion chambers and causing exhaust smoke at tick over. The two valves were completely gone and was clear to see the problem, however sometimes they can appear to be ok but be weak or debris preventing them closing all of the time, replacement is the best option given they are not too expensive. Jeff TT What they should look like....
  11. The link below may help if anyone needs to change the front fuel pipe that looks impossible but is do-able, its a tech thread I did from some years back. Jeff TT http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?140784-Fuel-pipe-tips&highlight=fuel+pipe
  12. What a great day today, a little low on air temperature but wall to wall sunshine, and even after 4.30pm it was still great, in a corner out of the slight breeze and in direct sunshine the temperature was a balmy 16 deg..... what a day, birds singing, sunshine, the lawn greening up nicely the leaves returning to the hedgerows, reminded me why living in the countryside is tops!! 13. You need to check for leaks when the engine is cold and first start of the day, remove the throttle cover first, have a torch and screw drivers ready etc. as often the window to see the issue is short. Jeff TT
  14. Vapour leaks are very hard to spot and will always be worse when the engine is cold started due to increase in fuel rail pressure to aid starting, cold fuel and cold pipes. Once warmed up the issue normally goes away, using the heater will draw air from the scuttle panels area which is very close to the source of the problem, check each and every fuel line worm drive, often they will look tight but will turn a half turn or more, particular attention to the rubber pipe link at the front of the rail under the throttle cover, sometimes pipes will need changing just because they are old and the rubber has aged. Jeff TT
  15. Jeez do these e-mail spammers not have anything else to do? Today`s special has the hook that someone wants to rent your "property" with a phone number included, of course the phone number is a £1 a minute special and they will keep you on as long as possible. BEWARE!! Jeff TT Hi I would be interested in renting out your property,i will be willing to pay 6 months upfront. can you let me know if the property is available. Tel- 07030808838 thank you Ben
  16. No probs will take some pictures tomorrow and post them here to give you a head start. Jeff TT
  17. Sort of, the rails the window run in have adjustable fixings that can be used to effectively make the glass a tighter fit, however the rail that goes up the back end of the door up towards the top where it meets with the targa seals can come loose, also there is a small plastic guide wheel affixed to the glass that runs in that guide and they can wear / break and will mean the window is loose and will not seal. Bit of investigation work required to just assess what you have got at the moment, it maybe just the rail adjustment is required, good luck with that. Jeff TT
  18. Interesting observations there Richard, however just to flip the other side of the coin, understanding that oil has many roles some been already mentioned but one is to capture the nasties that are created within a combustion engine, the colour change as the mileage rises is indicative of how much of the nasties the oil has captured neutralized and holding in liquid suspension. Of course this is why oil changes are important so the oil is changed before all of its qualities are exhausted, and that would suggest the semi synthetic oil does a better job of holding the by-products from the engine given its increased colour change as compared to fully synthetic. I know from my Sierra Cosworth days in early 1992 running exclusively on Castrol R fully synthetic it came out the same colour as it went in very often, but it did do 160k miles by time I sold it and was still going strong so it really comes down to personal choice I guess. 19. import zx "Will it take a uk rear bumper" As in a fight? (lol) Yes Jeff
  20. No need to buy a filter as its a cleanable steel strainer, also the gearbox has a temperature sensor and is so designed as to prevent higher gears been selected until the fluid is over a set temperature, if the sensor fails it thinks the box is cold. Jeff TT
  21. Thought the lastest scam email was of Nigerian or Eastern European origin but a header search shows the last traceable IP address as Hong Kong, guess its bouncing around a bit though as ppl@send.co.uk appears in the trace?? why don`t these peeps use their time on a real job?? spelling mistakes aside it contains the right amount of incentive for the unwary lets hope it fails. 22. Thats zeds for you!! Jeff
  23. One thing to keep in mind is although its a later series zed it has all the same issues as the earlier ones and most of all the same causes of engine issues. The ecu is a 16 bit but is not OB2 compliant so will be wasting your money buying one of those, it comes back to the good old ConZult, if you have one of those thats the first place to start, check afm voltage, tps setting, injector duty and timing, this is just the start point to clear these out of the equation. Also air/boost leaks, mixed up vacuum pipes fuel filter and plugs all can have running issue effects, even a blocked air filters and the usual temp sensor connection, start with the basics and move on from there, also check the fuel damper, they have a habit of leaking fuel into the plenum when shut down causing a flooding issue. If you do not have a ConZult you can still use the inbuilt diagnosis for code checks by watching the engine light on the dashboard rather than the ecu led, but remember they are basic codes and often can be meaningless without other information. 24. The auto-lift module is best fitted in the drivers door, the auto lift box is where you need to connect into, despite it not looking like it both windows work through it, an additional power cable from the auto-lift module to the drivers side window switch is required to power the system with the ignition off, should be a case off three of four connections, most lift modules are universal and because of that look more complicated than they actually are.
