  2. Paying with hard earned cash for lazy work is insulting to the person paying but some garages seem to consistently get away with it. Case in point, a zed in at the moment having had a replacement engine recently at a garage that advertises on ebay. Following the fitting and collection the car broke down ( over heated ) on the return journey and so went back for more work. The car was collected again and ran but in the loosest of terms, as the car was used more it got worse, the owner had another garage look at it and they found many air and boost leaks, correcting as many as they could find the engine ran much better. But oil and steering leaks made the owner take another look and he discovered the engine supplier / fitters had not connected the oil cooler supply pipes to the engine at all (linked out) having used the engine oil cooler for the autobox...very clean eh? So he added a separate cooler to sort that out, the engine supplier was again contacted and their reply was it was an import engine and they did not have the facility for the oil cooler ???????????? So with further running issues and the engine supplier not playing ball we were contacted and so sent the recovery truck to go get it. The photo`t below are just a sample of what we have found and have to correct, but added together tell a sad story. With missing gearbox bolts, missing engine to bell housing brackets, missing oil pipes, missing pipe brackets, wrongly fitted vacuum pipes, blanked pipes, timing issue, wrong dipstick fitted, overfilled, damaged ancillary belts the list goes on and on, but the front anti roll bar drop link been disconnected beggars belief. So a few days of correcting the issue should see what actually seems to be a fairly good engine that was just fitted poorly running correctly as it should have been in the first place...oh and the real pi?? take was the cost??? over 2K!!! jeeezzzzzz! Nasty things can happen in the bellhousing like broken pivot balls or a twisted selector fork, maybe even a failed release bearing but before any of that is considered there are other places to check first. Hydraulics can act up and the master cylnder is a devil for working then not especially after air has been allowed to get inside and dry out the seals, but also the clutch pedal rod is adjustable and may well have needed setting when the conversion was done however if the locknut was not nipped up the adjustment rod can rattle loose and eventually selecting gears will become more difficult, that said, air in the system, a failing slave or master cyliner can cause the same problem. This is the risk you take when using second hand parts and is no reflection on the fitter or garage. How have you been bleeding the clutch? I always cable tie the slave cylinder closed so not air traps behind the piston, with the slave bleed open slowly dpress the clutch pedal fully and have an assistant to close the bleed and lift you foot from the pedal, then repeat the process up to 5 times and then top the resevoir and do the same again. with the resevoir topped again and the cable tie removed that should be it.   8. Either they are to fit with alternative turbo`s and elbows or they are from a non turbo. Jeff TT
  9. Not surprised you got fed up then what a hole that was, still find it difficult to understand owners leaving cars at places like that, oh well onwards and upwards for you at least eh? Jeff TT

  11. Would seem like you on the right track there, will be looking like bad belt timing as you say if the car runs poor with 25 deg setting with an open or missing neutral switch. Jeff TT
  12. Valid point but we work with owners budgets and in this particular case a lot of other work was done else where on the car and this issue had never been part of the original plan, we discovered the problem when we started the other work. Jeff TT
  13. A corroded front member that is!!!! Despite the worse that Britains weather had thrown at this front section our mighty welder won the day. Really is worth inspecting your zed in this area as it is not just a section that hold the radiator in place, the tension rod arm brackets are secured here and the whole front suspension is reliant on there been no movement here. The cost of a new front member and the two side brackets is more than £250 and then the cutting out and welding back in place is a massively labour intentive job. So with afm air box, air con, rad and fan removed the work began, so bad was this one the rad supporting brackets had come away and these had to be re-fabricated, the section was cut back to its front edge that was still good metal and a new box section let in and seam welded. The new member had to be drilled and nuts welded inside for the tension rod bracket fixings and a top plate welded over to secure the rad brackets. When all done it still came out cheaper than a new member so all in a nice job, with acknowledgement to our tame welder Guy. Jeff TT
  14. Not a new thing but a clear case of reduced water flow though this particular lower hose. The cause of this in the main is the internal structure of the pipe has failed, made worse in this case by low water level causing an increased vacuum when the engine is switch off after a run. An easy thing to be blissfully aware of but potential to ruin your day of course, another one of those things to add to your list of must do`s. Jeff TT

  16. The boost gauge has a small unit under the bonnet to convert boost into a signal the gauge can work from. It is locates adjacent to the brake master cylinder and has a single electrical connection and a single very small pipe that can often split and fall off, this is worth checking, if all in good order then it may well be the unit, but 99% of the time its a split or missing pipe.   17. Here you are matey, sorry for slow response, if you have no use for the auto box you can cut off the appropriate plug and use it for the cable to connect for the reverse lights, looks neater under the bonnet that way. Jeff TT
