  1. I'd go with decent tyres.... ....I had Avons on my ZX when I bought it. They were in pretty good shape but when I replaced them with Goodyear F1s it was like driving a completely different car. The handling is now spot on - the back end has not let go yet... Richard ;)
  2. Check out "Heros and Villains" on page 131..... ......"Three turbocharged Japanese cars, but one didn't blow us away......" The 300ZX: "This was the car that threw down the gauntlet for a new generation of Japanses performance heros........possessed looks to evacuate the the fast lane with uncanny consistency..........Special indeed" 4/5 stars  The Supra: "Nissan's 300ZX was so good it forced Toyota back to the drawing board........it could beat the 300ZX to 60 by half a second but proved inspired rather than inspiring" 4/5 stars The villain?: "When the benchmark goes up there are always cars that fall short; enter.....the Mitsubishi 3000GT.....Its 300lb/ft of torque had 1825kg to overcome and the lack of pace hampered the car's aspirations......" 3/5 stars Then we already knew all this  Richard
  3. Hi all just want to say how efficient the Passport Agency were today.... I had to renew my passport in a hurry for a business trip to Sweden( :p ). I had a 9.15 appointment in London for the premium same day service, got there at just gone 9. Despite queueing for the security guards to open the doors at 9.20, I handed my forms in at 9.30, paid at 9.35 and walked out at midday with a new passport  Wish I could say the same for Chiltern Railways :xxx: Decided to take the train, drove to the station, paid to park (which also fekked me off - Saturday?? They want us not to drive  ) then found that half the journey to Marylebone would be replaced by a bus service..... .....Told the ticket guy it would be quicker to drive all the way to Victoria.... And it was  40 minutes in the Zed and I was in the NCP at Victoria Station Richard ;)
  4. Exactly what I would have done - as soon as he did the rear window, I'd have put in reverse and hit the gas....... :D Richard :)
  5. Heh heh, That takes some doing, but having driven a Vectra I have to agree :p Richard :)
  6. You could just buy the ready mixed stuff from Nissan - it's not actually that expensive. Richard :)
  7. While you're at it, best feed the hamsters in the turbos............. Richard ;)
  8. I used to drive Vauxhalls when I passed my test back in 1987, couple of Cav SRi's (which were pretty good cars back then), an Astra GTE and a couple of Mantas. Probably wouldn't get another now though..... I got my first Japanese car in 1993 - a 6 month old Carina EGTi. Cracking saloon car - 173bhp, Celica suspension. Fast and ultra reliable - had it 4 years, from 6K miles to 126K miles and it NEVER went wrong. I just had it serviced every 6K and had the cam belt changes. I even paid to extend the Toyota warranty to 100K miles, waste of money as I never needed it  Had Japanese cars since......except the Corsa 1.4 16v Sport I bought Julia 3-odd years ago, Nice engine but it costs more to service than my ZX  Plus the power steering only works when it feels like it - it's a W reg FFS and we've only just racked up 42K miles Richard :)
  9. Twas a bit disrespectful....... .....but I did find it funny too :x:
  10. Hi Neil Any chance of a reply to my PM mate? Richard
  11. As it gets cold the rubber contracts so fuel can seep out at the hose joints until the car warms up. Go round and tighten up all hose clamps you can see. That usually cures it. HTH Richard :)
  12. Similar story here..... ......after light front damage (new bumper, 1 head light, indicator and wing) my insurance co sent the assessor round to make sure the car wasn't a write-off owing to the cost of repairs. When he saw the car (1991 UK spec auto with 74K, FSH etc) he valued it at £5-£5.5K. Hence it got repaired  Richard
  13. Going back to the question originally asked all those years ago...... .....why? They just do, who really fvcking cares why? Why does the sun rise each day? I don't give a shit - I just accept that it happens... .....Why dig up a thread several months old and start posting shit? Fvcking trolls. Piss off of our forum before the mods catch you
  14. As shocking as a 14 year old girl getting shot in the UK is, I've got to agree with this. No smoke, fire etc...... :( Without knowing all the facts I can't say anymore Richard
  15. Beat me to it mate ;) Looks good Stuart. You spraying it yourself? Richard :)
  16. Have to agree with the fact that Houghtons offer great deals on the ZX - I discussed my renewal with them, then mentioned insuring a Shogun 3000 v6 on a K plate woth £3000 as an everyday driver.... .....which would cost more than the ZX as an every day driver  I currently use the ZX every day but am considering buying a Shogun then using the ZX less during the winter. Price for the ZX as a daily driver £490 - but when my NCB etc switched to the Shogun the premium went over £500 with Houghtons. Other quotes came out between £2-300 - as Houghtons offer deals which specialise in our cars. Also the numbers of certain cars on the road has an effect on premiums for that car. There are way more 200sx than 300zx on the road (even more Shoguns  ). Hence a history of more claims by drivers of those cars (stands to reason  ) The rarer the car the fewer claims associated with it - hence lower premiums. I pay only a fraction more than than a female friend of similar age with similar driving history, same NCB and area. I drive the ZX and she drives a Mondeo. Conclusion more Mondeos on the road hence more Mondeo drivers having accidents. Therefore Mondeos are a greater insurance risk. Duhhhh ;) Think about it  Richard
  17. Simple enough for me  Richard :D
  18. Thanks Kirbz Got mine yesterday and it works fine  Top  Richard :)
  19. We should export Novas..... .....all of them, to anywhere, as long as they are not here  Richard :)
  20. Hi Simon I recently had a front end shunt too. I took it to the insurance co's recommended repairer who gave the OK to fix it, but when the insurance co got the price of the parts they considered writing it off and sent another engineer to inspect my ZX. Luckily he thought the car was OK to save. Most insurance companies will not let you use 2nd hand parts if they arrange or pay for repairs. I gave the body shop Mike Feeney's contact details and he supplied a 99 spec front bumper for £280, indicators for £43, headlight for £110 and front wing for £80. All plus VAT of course (prices approximate from memory). Even though it was classed as my fault I still got a courtesy car for a week while it was repaired - on the condition that I used the insurance co's body shop. Get a list of what you need and contact Mike @ MJP - Top guy, he sorted all the parts in a couple of days so I could get the car done before my holiday too  Good luck mate Richard :)
  21. No. He looks more like the type to fvck them ;) :x: Richard :D
  22. I did.... Mike Feeney sells the bumper with the mesh included. Easier than making your own, as it just clips onto the lugs in the bumper. Plus the indicators cost around £45 including the VAT, also from Mike Feeney. HTH Richard ;)
  23. I have put in around 66 litres - I'm sure the tank has a 70 litre capacity...... Richard :)
  24. Sorry to hear that Si :( At least while it's on your drive you can control what happens to it. Get the engineer/assessor to inspect it there, if it is repairable the insurance co can take it away for you. If it is a write-off they won't take it away until you've agreed the value and they've paid up. If the front suffered heavy damage it may not be the same after repair anyway so may be best if it s written off. You could then replace it. How fast were you going when you hit the to55er? Did the impact damage steering/suspension or chassis - if so, then I would prefer to replace the car :( Glad you are OK though - sounds like it could have been much worse for you. All the best Richard
  25. UK spec is about 237bhp and not quite as fast as a ZX (0-60 in 6.1 and 100 in under 16) Jspec is around 260-280bhp and faster than a ZX but not by that much, once rolling. By 100 all should be even though. Very nice cars, just make sure engine is a good one as they cost a lot to rebuild. I heard they don't take too kindly to synthetic oil either.... Richard :)
