watch batteries
I have a bit of a watch fetish and own a few Swiss timepieces; so IMO £35 doesn't sound to bad for a specialist.... ......I took my Tag Aqua Racer Chronograph for a new battery and Ernest Jones charged just over £50. That did include a full pressure test to ensure water resistance to 300m though. Worst thing was that they fecked up the stopwatch function. When I got it back, I tried the stop watch and it didn't reset itself to 12 o'clock. I had to take it back again and they had to send it away. Again. They did fix it eventually and I got them to refund the money for my "inconvenience" Ernest Jones; "the diamond and watch specialists" I don't think so!!!:o Richard;)

Best car I've ever driven............?
You're welcome mate. It's said that Merc generally don't make a decent manual 'box (still!!) so the autos are always worth £££s more (or the manuals are just sold cheaply because no-one wants them:p) And I see you live in Derby - by coincidence my car came from MB Derby! My friend (who now has the AMG for sale) had it delivered down here and did the deal for me. It's the only car I've ever bought without actually seeing it first:eek: And I wasn't disappointed!! Richard:cool:

Best car I've ever driven............?
Hi Keith, The SLK350 is a decent and fast sports car - 0-62mph is perhaps slightly quicker than a stock 300zx TT at 5.6s (or 5.5 for the auto; yes with big engined Mercs the autos are faster;)). Remember the ZX's time of 5.6s is for 0-60...... The AMG 55 has a 0-62 of 4.9; only 1/2 a second quicker than the 350 but with more power and torque the midrange of the AMG is awesome!! Personally I would not buy a manual SLK350; not just because the auto is faster, but the 7g tiptronic 'box is much better - especially with the optional paddle shift. Plus the manual will be a lot harder to sell later.... The AMG55 is auto only BTW. I bought mine from a Mercedes main dealer and got the benefit of the balance of the manufacturer's warranty and an extra one year's MB used car warranty which is incredibly comprehensive and covers wear & tear. I doubt I'll extend it after that and just take a chance. New mercs are a lot more reliable than they used to be. I'm very pleased with my 350; I have every extra apart from the Command navigation. It's fast, solid, reliable, handles well, looks good and the airscarf heating is just superb with the top down in winter. It is also quite good on fuel for a 3.5 V6...... I think they have improved a lot in the last couple of years though. I thought I had read something in my car's literature about a 30 year corrosion warranty; I could be wrong though:confused: Still it only has to be inspected by a MB dealership to keep it valid; not necessarily serviced. Servicing does not prevent rust, afterall! Also my last Merc - a 2000 model SLK230 had no signs of rust. Richard:)

My thoughts exactly - and all the more reason for us to have 3 litre twin turbo beasts:tongue: Richard:rofl:

Best car I've ever driven............?
Brilliant idea, Athene!! And because I hate the green lobby and could really get used to 20 degrees in winter perhaps I'll run it on Super and drive everywhere in 2nd gear just to make sure:rofl: Richard:)

Best car I've ever driven............?
I know she'll like it - my daily driver is an SLK350 and that's a superb car...... .....however I don't think she'll understand why I really really need a 5.5 litre V8 monster....;) Richard:)

Best car I've ever driven............?
...........................Possibly! A friend of mine who happens to be a car dealer invited me to drive his latest bit of kit for sale. And I must say, I loved every second of it - it's a Merc SLK 55 AMG and it's awesome!! Lovely V8 power and noise - superb acceleration and road holding and absolutely amazing brakes; yet so civilized. I think I could happily have one as a daily driver  Now how can I convince Julia that I really need one........... Richard:D

lion reunited
I read about that in the paper last week - excellent story; I'd say it must have been pretty cool having a lion as a pet!!! Richard:)

Front wings
I'd say that Nissan would still supply new body panels.... .....so I guess Mike Feeney would be your best bet as well. What have you done to yours then Iain? Richard:)

suspension question - drop link
Hi all, I have snapped my rear off side drop link (whatever that is). I know the part is only about £40 from Nissan (although I wil buy it from MJP); my question is, how much of a job is it to replace? I'll not be doing it myself BTW...... Thanks, Richard:cool:

To those who have crashed
Back when my Z was my daily driver I was unfortunate (read stupid:rolleyes:) enough to run into the back of a Landrover causing £1000 damage to my car. I claimed on my insurance although I don't know whether the other driver put in a claim against me. Anyway, 3 months later at renewal time my existing insurer (Admiral) did not load my premium despite the accident. I did shop around and Admiral were still the cheapest at the time; but most insurers did not seem worried by one "at fault" accident in the years I hae been driving. Richard:cool:

Grey Z on the Isle of Wight
Give him time........ Your car must be the one the chap at Staddlestones Nissan told me about. I had to make a pitstop after damaging one of the flexi-hoses from the exhaust to the emmission control thingy when I hit something in the road. They fixed it up in a few minutes, fortunately, and it only cost £16....... .....anyway the service rep mentioned a yellow Z in Ryde! Richard:)

Grey Z on the Isle of Wight
As above....... .......in the Freshwater area on Saturday 21st early afternoon. I was waiting at the temporary traffic lights in a red ZX and you were coming through in the opposite direction; thumbs up and flashing your lights!! That was the only other Z I saw during my short holiday; and it happened to be on the Island......... Richard:)

Honest opinion
I initially thought no........ .......but having seen that the seats on Ebay are more of a dark red - almost maroon - I've changed my mind. I think it will look fine - I've sen a white Alfa Romeo with dark red leather and it looked good. Buy them - if you don't like them once you have them then re-sell them. They'll get snapped up quick enough! Richard:)

Feels like resistance..
I was going to say make sure the hand brake is off:mac1: But as already said above - check whether your brakes are sticking/binding. Richard;)
