Bloody hell Dean - that looks awful mate. I hope you get everything sorted and have no trouble with insurance etc. I'm sure you'll get plenty more help offers from here - so if there's anything anyone can do for you, don't hesitate to ask. Like Voddy says, your ZX might not be too bad after all..... And I hope your flat was on a higher floor !! All the best, Richard:sad:

Spark plug type and size for a modified TT
Whatever the virtues of copper, platinum or iridium; the general consensus among the Z32 community; is that in a road car in a state of tune from stock to reasonably higher performance, which is not for track use, then the OEM (platinum BTW) plugs by NGK are the best choice.... Some iriduium plugs (Denso perhaps - I cannot remember the article on here) are a few mm shorter than the NGKs so the tip does not fully reach into the combustion chamber - that cannot be good for ensuring the spark is delivered to its optimum area! I fitted the NGK iridiums in my old red ZX; only because I got them at a better price than the OEM ones and, as it was a stock-ish road car, it made no difference; better or worse. So provided the car still runs as well as Nissan intended, for normal road use, then just enjoy the benefit of extended longevity the platinum (or iridium) NGK plugs offer..... Nissan recommended changing them at 60k miles. Richard:thumbup1:

Forien body inside z32 engine....weird
Unbelieveable!!! So was that the cause of poor compression - as it was stopping the valve from fully closing? Richard:blink:

Stopping forum spam
I'm not sure mate - we get our fair share of spammers too and the mods are vigilant in removing the crap.... .....but that said, we get nowhere near the amount we used to get; so maybe there is something in our forum software that filters out the majority of it, leaving just a small minority to squeeze through. I'm no IT guru, but no doubt someoe here will have an answer.... Richard:ninja:

home insulation
Makes sense Allan - I wondered how BG could offer it for free and whether their customers would have to pay in the end.... .....I have the cavity wall insulation, but my loft could probably be re-done as the current insulation is thinner than the present recommendations. I'll give BG a call!! Richard:thumbup1:

painting costs - just a door
Sorry to see that mate..... Makes me mad, that kind of thing.:censored: That sounds similar to prices down here too; anywhere between £120 and £150 per panel is normal, although you might find a friendly body shop willing to do it for cash as it's a straight forward repair. Failing that, what about a smart-repairer, like Chips Away? They may not be top notch, but if you're selling the car it may just do the job for less £££s than you think. Richard

What do you lot think
I didn't know that mate - so, I guess, once all the chavved up and replica M3 e36s have been wrapped around trees, then the good ones which still survive will surely attain classic status like the e30....:winkiss: Richard:thumbup1:

Few pearls on here !

What do you lot think
My opinion..... ....keep the e46 mate! The only "classic" 3-series that looks good (IMO of course) is the e30. I reckon that each time BMW made a new 3-series, it really made the previous incarnation date pretty badly, pretty quickly. The e36 looks old and outclassed in comparison to your e46 - whereas the e30 is now retro-cool. The E36 won't attain that status for many years yet.... Richard:thumbup1:

LED Rear Fog Light
That last bit is true - rear fogs should only be used when visibility is down to 100 metres or less (about 20 car lengths) and let's be honest, it's rarely that foggy. I just wish the morons who switch their rear fogs on when there's a little bit of mist or fog knew that - FFS, if you can see the cars way out in front of you, and they don't have rear fogs on, then that clearly means you don't need them!!! But back to the plot - if I had a J-spec car then I'd take the easy option and convert the right-hand reverse light using a red bulb..... Richard:thumbup1:

Blue/grey smoke only under boost.
TBH, if the engine does not consume much oil, then I would not worry about a bit of smoke mate! As Mark says, there's no harm in replacing the PCV valves to see if it cures the problem, but if it is the turbos then most likely it is just the rear oil seals that have gone. And so long as it boosts up and performs OK, then I'd live with it until you have to top up the oil every week...!! Not necessarily matey - the "w" is indeed the cold velocity, but it indicates the ability of the oil to circulate around the engine at start-up; the lower the "w" number the quicker it gets round. So at full temp, a 5w40 is the same as a 10w40; whereas whilst a 10w60 will, like you say, withstand a higher thermal break-down, it is still thicker at full running temp and therefore probably overkill on all but the highest tuned of engines. Unless you're hammering your car on a track, then perhaps a "50" is the absolute highest grade you'd need - otherwise stick to a 10w40 or, if you want a fully synth, a 5w40 will be fine.... Just a bit of fun.....caption competition!

Top Gear Live......
Just got back - and it was excellent!! Really good fun; Tiff Needell and Vicky BH opened the show with an hour of races, a star in a reasoably proced car etc. Then after a short break Clarkson, Hammond and May came on in a V8 powered stage.... ....We had really good seats too, front right block, only 6 rows back - although we'll definitely go "platinum" next year.... Well worth it I reckon. Oh and I gave the Z a run up to Birmingham and back. I'll get some pics up later, including some of the show ladies..... Richard:thumbup1:
