Xmas Party Location Poll
Getting things back on track, after all it is only 12 weeks + away... Looking at the map Chris posted, just below Manchester and above Birmingham seems to be the most central part of the UK. I guess that all members furthest North or South would drive no further that 3-3.5 hrs ?? and those furthest East or West would drive no further than say 2-2.5 hrs ?? The US guys just held their Zcon last week and members travelled for days to get to a dedicated Z meet  , which is what this is. Here in the UK every show throughtout the year always involves loads of other clubs, it would be good to see at least a once yearly event where we ALL where possible meet up and get together for some socialising and discussions on Zeds. Am just hoping it's either before the 11th Dec or after the 17th cos am of to Prague again for me 40th :duffer: cheers smithy

Hard Pipe Fitting Tips
no no, please don't ever use this on new silicone when fitting hard pipes or what ever, same goes for WD40, it can take for ever for those fluids to fully evaporate and there is a risk of the silicone sleeves blowing straight down the pipe, hot water is ample that's why i have it typed on the instructions. To clean the outside only of the silicone when dirty, spray some WD40 on a lint free cloth and wipe over the surface. Gees, in the time it takes me to smoke a fag i can fit these :p Any probs Martyn with any fittings, email me and i'll guide you through it :) smithy

Hard Pipe Fitting Tips
Assuming you got and read the instructions ? 15min job mate and yep as said, soak in hot water to soften the new silicone, then you can simply slide them back and forth. smithy

two trax tickets
That don't matter mate for those guys on chunks list who are paying on the gate on the day for a ticket, still worthwhile contacting them to save them any hassle on the day itself. Oh and i've already been told I can't have my mates Scooby in our parking area, otherwise i'd sent yer the $$ by now matety :) cheers smithy
-
two trax tickets
T-pot, check the list Chunk put up the other day of who was paying on the gate and try those guys, save them trying to sort a ticket out on the day :) I'd take em both off yer for me mate who's just looking for somewhere to park away from the public park, but he ain't got a Zed  smithy

Clutch & Flywheel. Wot dya think?
:p Don't worry mate, you've had yours that long now, if it was gonna go tits up it would have by now ;) Fortunately i only had 2 do it from when i sold em back in the good ole days :) Now i just stick with a brand that's got the best gaurantee on the market  cheers smithy

TRAX!! Sept 4th
Ur welcome fella and bump to any others :) smithy

Clutch & Flywheel. Wot dya think?
I've absolutely no experience of this brand of clutch and never heard of them, that said, air some caution, for around 90 quid plus shipping and taxes you'll possibly get what you pay for and as your labour costs will be more than the product cost you don't want to be doing the same job twice. As for the Fly, i used to sell Fidanza some years ago, reasonable units, but the number of UK importers of them has dropped a fair bit due to issues with warpage which RPS actually use as part of their advertising campaigns. For the cash it's certainly a better bet than the clutch though :) as your not planning high power smithy

TRAX!! Sept 4th
Ah gottcha, just that you asked for addresses of those using ADVANCED tickets and not those paying on the gate, who you also need for the club passes to send in advance. Just hate to see peeps turn up and not able to get on the stand mate :) smithy
-
TRAX!! Sept 4th
Those turning up on the gate Chunk, will the organisers allow them a club entry still ? cos the world and his wife could say they are a club stand when they ain't! just curious if they have a system in place so the boys know :) cheers smithy

Evo 6 Calipers
EVO Brembo's are not the same as the Skyline GTR ones, the actual difference in caliper construction, size/strength/mounting etc am not sure on as i can't find the write up i had, however for deffo they use different part numbers on their pads compared to GTR Brembo's, that i do know. Also if you search the EVO board, so many guys there suffer the brake squeel problem and their ditching em in favour of stoptech and AP. Still a good upgrade though if it works :) smithy

Brake Calipers
Aye yer can't go wrong really, stripped, rebuilt with new seals and new pistons, coated in teflon black or red and then rebuilt and tested, for just over a 100 quid the pair, not worth getting yer hands dirty  smithy

Brake Pads / Discs
Down to the last set of rears but still a few porterfields left if anyone else fancies some, also by next week i'll be an official re distributor of DBA :hyper: upto now it's been a pita to do :headvswal cheers smithy

Induction kit
Unless Blitz have changed their designs, the fliter comes with it's own MAF plate, which yes bolts directly on, if yours came from the early scoobies, then i would expect it to fit as the early models came with same MAF as the Zed, i think scoobies later on change the bolt pattern, not a 100% on that though. smithy

Trying to find my oil leak..
Aaron, how yer getting with yer results mate ? am watching tis with bated breath :D mine has the excat same symtoms as yours, a bloody hard to find leak, rebuild last year and all seals done, cambelt and all seals done again a few months ago and still she leaks out oh and i had a seized cam pulley too. keep us posted mate :) cheers smithy

Engine rebuilds
Jaffa, i think pretty much the majority here who have new pistons have the wiseco's, i've not heard any bad issues with them over the pond and have been in Zeds with some high bhp ( US bhp, lol) so in a rebuild of reasonable amount of power, these would suit yer fine, other than that for the block it's quite strong, though i would suggest copper ringing the block as i did many years ago incase you run higher boosts too, it will safe guard against a head gasket going.A bit of work on the heads and possibly a JWT mild cam job too. Add to that bigger injectors, decent new SMIC's, Divorced waste gate pipes, decent Tubs, Chip, zorst you'll have a pretty quick motor on yer hands and reasonable reliable if all done correctly. :D hth smithy

Trax @ Silverstone
You got PM mate. cheers smithy

Rotor Discs
fook  what exactly did yer get for that fella ? smithy
-
Rotor Discs
tbh mate, i've really only seen these aimed towards the hot hatch fiesta/saxo brigade. With the Zed being one heavy motor and even stock discs known to warp, yer gotta pay the cash and get decent brands of discs/pads which are upto the job and help stop you quicker too. Brakes and suspension is not something i would ever do on the cheap or unknown for our cars, just imo of course :D cheers smithy

will 19's fit? and are skylines the same
Did you use the calculator i posted above mate ? With you going wider it makes a difference. I just typed in your new sizes and the differences is only 1mm (assuming 8.5 was already on the rear.) smithy
-
will 19's fit? and are skylines the same
Offset sizes of the Zed are, 5x114.3 P.C.D - +35 Offset Front and +42 Rear Skyline R32 - 16x8JJ - 114.3 P.C.D - +30 Offset - 225/50R16 R33 - 17x9JJ - 114.3 P.C.D - +30 Offset - 245/45ZR17 R34 - 18x9JJ - 114.3 P.C.D - +30 Offset - 245/40ZR18 Generally you can go in either direction by 7mm This may help you too, just type in measurements you want/have etc. http://marksink.com/tire_wheel_offset/offset.html Crobster, check out my traders section mate :) cheers smithy

will 19's fit? and are skylines the same
Unless the spokes of yer new wheels go in a fair bit, can't see any problems mate. Often offsets are stamped on the inside rim of the wheel, so 1st check yours both front and rear what they are and we can then tell if they are incorrect or not. Ask the seller of the skyline wheels what offset they are because yes they maybe on his skyline, but it doesn't mean he's kept within 7mm of the standard skyline offset, once you know the new wheels offset, we can see if they fit for you. cheers smithy

Twin Vs Single Air Filter
Depending on which types you mean when you say "twin", Steve-o quite rightly described the "dual pop" for it's advantages and when to use it, however if you've been looking at twincone kits, then that's slightly different. The fact 2 cones serve just the one MAF is imaterial, object is to try and force as much cold air into the intake as possible in order to increase performance, the MAF doesn't max out until around 480bhp and with one filter which performs well like Apexi's do you get a fair amount of air into the system, however more air is better and whilst say 2 apexi's will not suck in excatly double the amount of just the one filter, together they will out perform just the single on it's own, yes the route of pipework towards the maf from twins slows it down a small amount but certainly not as much as the amount to equal air from one filter. I see your using HKS, it was in fact this company around 1992 that developed the 1st twincone kit through the one MAF for cars running the usual bolt on mods, but looking for that bit extra and if you could find their kit today it would be very very expensive. The same concept has been copied basically by both myself and SE Nisstek. Hope that helps cheers smithy

R34 Brembo upgrade - feedback please!
Does look well behind the wheels mate ;) the condidtion of Skyline discs when buying these kits is often the minor downside when buying a job lot. As you can imagine, these guys mainly upgrade cos their present system is no longer upto the job for one reason or another so discs tend to be quite worn, best options are to either skim them or replace with some newies, erm cough-cough :p It's a start though mate and well done, you done more than i would have attempted. Neil, these are nowt like R32's mate. cheers smithy

Bottom ball joint
Need one replacing on the Z, but not sure if these are available as a seperate part or is it a case of a whole new lower arm fellas ? if it is the latter, may as well go adjustable. :) cheers smithy
