  1. Has anyone installed an autobox cooler for an import n/a ? The kits that Luke sells are only good for the UK car which has already an engine cooler. I spoke with Luke who said that the problem is that the Jap car has no exxisting mounts, so special ones would have to be made, which can be a bit of a problem if you do not have bending, cutting facilities in your garage at home. Thanks John
  2. For street use the zed's standard brake setup is perfectly adequate. People are fooling themselves if they think they need slotted/drilled discs, etc. Rebuild the calipers, put on a good set of pads and that will be fine. I did my front brakes last week, took about 4 hours (taking my time) caliper repair kit from Nissan - £42, semi metallic pads from Mike @ MJP - about £70 with vat and delivery. I should have bought the shim kit, the coating was starting to peel of the slotted shim, but copper grease applied to both sides of the shims so far has eliminated the brake squeel. John

When I had my last car (MR2) M.O.T.'d the tester pointed out worn out bushes in the rear anti-roll bar, but he said it was not part of the test, he was just pointing it out in case I was having trouble identifying a clunking noise going over bumps. John
  4. Mac How much for the AFM ? I broke the flange on mine, I glued it back, but would like to replace it. Is the turbo AFM same as the n/a ? Cheers John
  5. Looks great Rob, nice job. John
  6. got the caliper off, whats the best way of getting the pistons out? I dont have a compressed air gun John
  7. Thanks Steve, I'm thinking that if I clamp the hose near the front calipers I will minimise the amount of air getting in to the system. John
  8. I am just about to put new front brake pads in, and rebuild the calipers. The manual talks about bleeding the abs unit as well as each caliper, is this necessary ? if so, where is this abs unit that I bleed ? Thanks John
  9. Some types of keys (like my Toad alarm key) will fit the socket 2 ways (180 degrees apart) but only one way de-activates the alarm. John
  10. But Im not replacing the discs. John
  11. Hmmmm.........whats the fun in manually changing gear ? Thank god everyone does not think like that..........otherwise we would not have starter motors, after all, its sooooo much fun doing things manually  John
  12. Thanks Jezz I would have liked to have my disks skimmed, but its too awkward, I only have one car, so I guess I will just do the pads and calipers. I have been looking around for a cheap lathe to buy though, would come in handy from time to time. John
  13. Thanks for that everyone...... John
  14. Has anyone had their front brake disks skimmed in a machine shop ? Whats the most you can skim off ? How many of you just replace the pads and leave the rotors alone ? Thanks John
  15. Ordered my metal brake pads Monday from MJP, I got home from work and the Post Office tried to deliver them today...........great service, good prices and a great guy to deal with. John
  16. It is simply a fact that no vehicle needs the same brand of tyres all around. Other than the obvious of not mixing good tyres on one axle with bad tyres on the other, it is perfectly safe and acceptable to mix, and, dont believe everything manufacturers tell you, they are not looking out for your best interests. John
  17. I appreiate your very generous offer Alex, thanks very much, but I did end up buying a set of semi-metalic ones from Mike @ MJP, which should arrive today or tomorrow. Again, thanks Alex. John
  18. Thanks everyone for your valuable input John
  19. thanks everyone, i will tackle the job on Saturday Cheers John
  20. If a piston is seized, do you normally (using the great tips from members above) remove it completely so that you can inspect the piston and bore ? if so, what do you use normally to clean and remove stubborn foreign matter that caused the seizing up ? Thanks John
  21. Why cant you mix 2's and 3's ? as long as its not on the same axle. Plenty of zeds (including mine) have different tyres on the front to the backs. I have F1 Eagles on the back and Continentals on the front. Cheers John
  22. Thanks Greg and Vijay, Vijay, that piece of wood idea is a great tip which I will use. Cheers John
  23. Greg, I have not tried anything yet, I am waiting till saturday when I put the new pads on, so I dont know what kind of problem (if any) I may have. The may not be seized much at all. Cheers John
  24. Thanks Mickey.......I should have ordered a caliper repair kit, Mike (MJP) did not have any in stock so I told hime to just send the pads, I will try some of the import car parts dealers in Derby to see if they have a kit, as I want to do them this weekend. Anyone on here got a spare caliper kit they want to sell? John
  25. Thanks Greg, Isnt there a risk of scoring the piston when using grips, or are you gripping the part of the piston that never enters the bore, even with new pads? John
