  2. Checked with the GF and not got anything on this sunday so i'll pop along, hopefully sans-hangover, lots of live music around glastonbury town pubs saturday night
  3. I second corrupted, all you need is one high order bit to change from zero to one and you have a value an order of magnitude larger, which appears to be the case in this map. The question is, will it retain a new map correctly?
  4. ahh expansion valve is in the cooling unit near the evaporator behind the dash eh ... groan :( Probably just go for the R12 substitute, but still gotta mend me pipe work!
  5. Ahh thats a tidy wealth of information! Thanks!! I'll have a read through all of that later to sum the effort of work required and calculate the critical ball ache to payoff ratio :} So you got no use for those bits? I figure if I gotta swap some pipes out, gonna be taking quite a bit out of engine bay anyway.
  6. Thanks ... dunno what the condition of my system is in atm cuz theres no refridgerent in it, has a damaged pipe on the low pressure side which appears to have been repaired before with some dubious looking tape. So can't tell what condition the compressor is in ... need some other bits done down at Zedworld too so may as well get Jeff to suffer the ballache, especially as just today I've landed a 2 month software contract in Leicester, Tamworth being along the way. Hmmm
  7. Need some aircon advice for a '92 UK spec Referring to the service manual: http://www.300zx-twinturbo.com/cgi-bin/manual.cgi?list=ha&dir=&config=&refresh=&slide=42&cycle=off&scale=0&design=default&total=168 And another good entry thread for aircon topics: http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=137669&highlight=regas Now I've had someone look at the condition of the aircon and it's not pretty, firstly it's gonna need some replacement pipes which will probably be a bitch to fit, but can they be readily sourced? Or will getting them from a breaker/making them from scratch be the best option? Condenser looks a little shafted too (fins bent and buckled) so that will have to be replaced, is this simple enough to do? Not sure on condition of compressor so it will have to be serviced, how difficult is it to get on and off? Finally, the entire R12 to R134a issues, aside from replacing the receiver/drier & o-rings & valves, topping up with approx 20-30% less refridgerent etc etc, is the standard compressor good for it, providing that it's serviced and in GWO? Thx :thumbup1:
  8. I just did 35mph past a radar gun brandishing cop in a 30, but satnav usually indicates that road speed is 5mph slower than what the dash says ... I blooody well hope so anyway! Either way, this will be the ultimate test :sweatdrop:
  9. This catastrophe is just another government enabled shitstorm. There are plenty of negatively skewed risks introducing moral hazards associated with off-shore drilling, like an arbitrary $75m liability cap for starts, introduced after the Exxon Valdez incident. If it catastrophically screws up, the losses and costs are socialised beyond $75m. Doesn't matter who owns/runs the rigs, the entire venture is on a distorted economic footing - the cap on liability subsidises risk taking, just like how the bailouts favour casino banking. Unfortunately this event is going to enable another round of capitalist/free market bashing, when this is another textbook failure of crony-capitalism. Now Obama has illegally demanded that BP be liable for more than $75m (think I read figures of around $20bn, $4bn higher than BP's 2009 total revenue). Useless governments making useless laws which they then go and break themselves. If there was 100% liability from the start, that might have focused some minds concerning the catastrophic hazards associated with off-shore oil operations.

  11. A Kia Pride was as close as I could get to an anti-zed :)
  12. I've just bought a Kia Pride for a daily driver & doing a quick tour of Europe in :D Cost nothing! I also bought a Kia Pride many moons ago as my first car ... can't fault them really :)

I got very similar alloys on my one (if not identical), except they're totally corroded to buggery :( The finish on mine can't have been done properly ... previous owner (borderzed) said he was quite astonished at how rapidly they were deteriorating! I've noticed when cleaning them as well that the silver coating just flakes off in me hand! Yours look lovely when they're all nice and shiny though, I'll have to upload some photographs of mine for comparison ...
  14. You're always meant to request to keep it - otherwise they scrape your dna off of it ;)
  15. Indeed, in fact the price of petrol is, at minimum, 11p higher than it should be anyway. UK.gov following their precedent for screwing us over and above what they have previously obligated themselves to screw us for. Instead, what you've got is elected representatives like Lindsay Hoyle MP preaching that the fuel companies are at fault, seeking to square the blame on the evil corporations and deflecting any from the UK.gov :nono:. Sad fact is these troughing MP's are raking in over 70p on every litre. 60% of the price at the pumps goes straight to the government. :xxx:
  16. But we taxpayers are the ones who are paying for them to build the electric car in the first place :headvswal The _only_ thing that is keeping petrol prices high is the amount of duty the government is extorting from it.
  17. I just did mine last weekend before last and put in 3.4litres exactly as recommended by the service manual, & after a few days put another 150-200ml in. This is for a 92 twin turbo & changed oil filter at same time. 4 to 4.5 sounds a little high too me, having put 3.6litre in, the oil pressure guage reads between 10psi & 45psi, idle & flooring it, which I presume is fine. But yeah can sympathise with the oil dipstick being useless! Best to keep dipping until you get at least 3 unambiguous read outs, and as per required engine temperature conditions (warm, or as the service manual states, run the engine for 3 minutes after putting new oil in and then take a dip to guage).

mystery solved then! well I hope to catch you locals sooner or later, am now off out for a second round of glastonbury drunkedness :)
  20. Thanks for the advice all. Guess if I want to tighten my nuts to the spec I'll have to get a bigger torque wrench :) The radio is a real puzzler though- it does have a scan resolution of 0.05 I can certainly sympathise, radio1 during the day is nothing but a mouth piece for government funded pressure groups and the like, but meh, what can I do until internet radio comes to in-car entertainment, for listening to the latest new music? :) Been out in the sun today with the roof off for the 1st time, wonderful!
  21. how odd, I've hunted up and down the fm broadcast spectrum for it - closest I get is 97.9fm, i'll have another crack 2nite
  22. Thanks, I'll take a look next time I have a poke about. Think there's a bolt in either upper corner if I recall a schematic correctly, perhaps they need a tweak, or a washer, or something. One more question I forgot to ask was, which is totally batsh!t crazy I must admit, is there any reason why I can't get Radio1 on my radio?! Can pick up other radio stations absolutely fine - just it won't tune into radio 1, closest I can get is really crackly :( Is that a sign of radio knackered? or some kind of sophisticated jamming interference unique to the z32 :} Doesn't normally bother me but on long journey's in the evening radio1 usually has some banging tunes on.
  23. Just a few quickies! Wheels: How tight do people torque their nuts too? Oil: How much oil would it take, approximately, to raise the oil level from 'low' to 'high' on the clairvoyant divining rod... oops... I mean dipstick? :turned: Oil: Do people usually break in an oil change over x many miles? Sure I read something along those lines whilst browsing forum ... Bodywork: The front badge panel, is it a little wonky on all zeds, or does it just require a little adjustment? Changed my oil on the weekend for some 10w40 mobil 1 super s, all sounds a lot smoother. But what exactly is the knack to reading the dipstick? Is it a best out of 5 affair? This is the clearest most unambiguous result I've achieved thus far (infact I would call it textbook example, as it resembles the level indicated in the manual!): But nearly every other time it's bloody well all over the place! Pretty zed piccy whilst I had the camera on me:

Ahhh Glastonbury is my usual watering hole. More often than not down the Rifes (fingers crossed for a drink down there tonight if can make a good pace escaping Leicester). Didn't you use to live on Tor View Avenue Si? Positive I used to see a white zed parked along there.
  25. Something odd about this brand 'Advent', think it's one of these shared brands like you get in the fashion sector ... An 'Advent 5401' is actually a 'Quanta TW7M', according to this authoritative looking site. But confusingly this forum says it could be an 'ECS S20 II'. Drivers from Quanta aren't available though. Looks like your stuck with the drivers provided on system restore disks. I would hope Windows 7 would work for you but the hassle of finding even drivers for XP/Vista on the net suggests that getting Windows 7 drivers might be a bit tricky, although Vista drivers 'should' work.
