Fitting Rear Seat belts
Do you want a pic of with the seats in or with the seats out showing the belts? I ripped my car apart over the last few days and only finished putting the interior back in this morning. If you asked yesterday I could have got a pic. If you want it with the seats in I can get you a pic now if you want if you want a pic with seats out I can see what I have. There is also an on-line manual http://www.300zx.co.uk/cgi-bin/manual.cgi I think it shows the 3 point harnes. Stuart

New parts from Courtesy.
The torsion rods have been there for a while. I noticed them on the front page and is a very good price. The others are a little on the pricey side though. I think I will make my centre panel by installing a EL sheet. Stuart

Taking my car apart. The Diary.
Took the car out for a drive and it felt nice. The car ran so smooth and the engine was more responsive at around the 3500 rpm range. I think this is because of the fuel pressure which normally leaks out of the tank and neck, but is there now after replacing them. Or it could just be in my head. Stuart

Taking my car apart. The Diary.
I have no idea what it is. There is a paint shop round my way who sells stuff like that. We just asked for 5 litres of underseal and thats what we got. It just says Autogaurd Underbody Sealant on it. Well worth it I think. Even though you cant see the parts we worked on the whole car looks better and I think it's the underseal in the arches which makes it look clean. Stuart

Taking my car apart. The Diary.
Day 4 Considering today we started about 10:30-11:00 ish and didnt stop till just before 8 o'clock, it doesnt seem like we got much done. Start of the day was taken patching up the hole that was left after a pile of mud was collected between the wheel arch and the tank neck. This also caused smaller holes to be created in the side of the arch which enters the boot. Not too bothered about how it looked patches were placed over the holes after all the rust was taken away. A peice of welding metal was shaped as best we could to fit inside the arch where the larger hole was, but first all the rusty metal had to be cut away. Here are a few pics of when the plates where in place. I looks messy but it wont be seen and we slapped a load of welding treatment stuff, dont know what its called it was really thick grey goow which went hard, all over the welding and then painted the rest over with under seal. Now we started to put the car back together, first the tank. Now for the people who have put their own tank on, I feel for you, for the people who havent, its the biggest pain in the arse in the world and took nearly 2 hours to do. After getting the tank on the neck wouldnt get into place. If you lined it up so the top of the neck was right it wouldnt attach to the tank. So we attached to the tank first and bent the neck round. That rubber bung that hold on to the top of the neck is really strong, its holding it inplace. If it wasnt the neck woundnt even be visible. The exhaust was put back on and the bumper too. Now we could see how well my dads welding and metal bashing matched the contor of the bumper. Its almost a perfect fit. We started off 4 days ago with bubbling wheel arch, huge holes in the rear sills, huge hole in the wheel arch, a leaking petrol tank, split petrol neck and boot and petrol cap released that didnt work. Now the rear sills on the bumper are solid and covered in underseal, the hole in the wheel arch has gone. The tank is not leaking, newer better condition neck, no petrol smell going round roundabouts and the cap makes the hiss noise when I take it off, which it has not done since the 1st week I got it. I also fixed the boot and petrol cap release too. YAY. The rear arch is not bubbled too, but still needs work at a later date. And amongst all that we even managed to take off the spoiler and put it back on using liquid sealer which holds it more snug and keeps out the water. I think we deserve a rest for a few days before we tackle the front which hoping wont take as long. So this is it for over the week end, and dispite spending a few quid on paint, sealers and treatment it was well worth is and saved me a few thousand. And even through the 6-8 hours a day for 4 days, I actually enjoyed it and driving it again felt great. Just to show you how good these cars are, its been with its arse in the air for 4 days, the battery has been disconnected for 3 days. We listened to the radio all day which would have flattened the battery and considering the fuel lines would be dry because it all poured out when we disconnected the lines, the engine started almost straight away on its second crank. I was amazed as well was my dad. One final word. This underseal that I have put on every thing, is really worth it. The next day it was nearly rock hard and held on the arches and everwhere else we put it. It also makes the arches look jet black and really finished off the look of the car. So its a double plus. Thanks for reading Stuart

induction kit
I 2nd that. I changed the filters on my old box once. It took over an hour. When I installed the induction kit, it took 5-10 mins after I ripped the stock box out. Stuart

looks like its over
Iraq, is the largest provider of oil to the world and even though there are millions of Iraqis without jobs, food or water, there is still money to build thousands of those pictures, hudresds of statues and a few hundred palaces built with marble, gold and what looked like oak and mohogny wood. In other words the most espencive you can get. They also say that Sadam has over 300 BILLION pounds stock up somewhere which is money from selling the countries oil. Imagine what would happen if Blair was found to have just £1,000,000 of government money in his account. Iraqi fear of the regieam is all too apparent in the news casts. 4-5 days ago they where shouting at the US and UK, and lets not forget the 1000 Australian solders there, to go home. Saying otherwise would have meant death to them and most probably thier families. But now there is now no fear about the speaking up, they are welcoming people. I agree war is a terrible thing and war is the last resort and it was. For 15 years Sadam has been told to buck up his ideas and he didn't. And for any one who thinks this is about oil, you are a f%*king moron. How will this happen? The UN said it is now going to play a huge roll in rebuildling the country and is taking all the money made from the oil into an account to be used for the country, how the f%*k can the UK and US be getting the oil. They are not about to put their own pipes in and have Shell and Texico oil trucks to dive up. Also to darkman2, that is the attitude which makes most of the world hate you, saying "america is the best." What about the thousands of UK soilders who are in Iraq too, and the 1000 Austrailian. Where is you praise of them? The UK may not have as many the US but there is no where near as many people in the UK than the US and over 50 people have died with so called friendly fire. 2 have been caused by the UK. I watched the US news and there are reports of US forces but then talking about Basra and Um-Kaza its colition forces and not UK, but this is a different conversation. Stuart

Engine tapping!
I had this on my car. Sounded like just 1 tappet was making some noise. I changed the rating of the oil. I did use 0-40 and it made the noise then I tried 5-40 which helped but the noise completely went when I used 10-50 or higher. Try to use 5 prefably 10 or even the Mobile 15-50 I have Castrol 10-60. Taking my car apart. The Diary.
Day 3 Part 2 After taking off all the interior in the boot you could see the hole in the passenger rear arch better and also a smaller hole in the side which would allow water into the boot from the arch area. In the picture you can also see the mechanism that works the fuel latch which has never worked well for me. After a lot of cleaning and watching it work I found out that the surface rust on the metal arm that pulls the latch back has slight surface rust on, which made it a little longer and caused it to jam when it was opened. I made it so it most of the time goes back on its own or if you tap the side of the car near where the latch it is, it releases it and it springs locked. Mean while my dad had finished the welding and grinding it down. They look messy but no one is ever gonna see down there. This is the drivers side which was the worse and took the most time as there where about 4 peices that had to be made and then welded and the smaller pieces took a lot of time because they where fiddly. Also the drivers side was contoured more as you can see on the top right of the welding where it actually curls in slightly. Here is the passenger side which wasnt as bad and took half the time to do. To help against this happening again, we slapped on a very thick layer of underseal. Doesnt look like much happened today as only 1 of could really do anything and it took time. We also spent 40 mins or so in the paint shop and took time out to see the American in compitence of thinking that they can pull down a several tonne re-enforced statue of Sadam by using wire round its knee. I think that we will finish off the front tomorrow and try to start on the rust under the bonet. The rear sill that we where going to do is still holding well and can wait to another time. Hoping to have my car in a drivable condition tomorrow. Stuart

Taking my car apart. The Diary.
Day 3 It seems to be a day where nothing much happened as there is no real great change in the car. After the new sills where quickly made up obviously they had to be welded on. I dont weld and we only have 1 anyway so I was left to do other smaller things like take the areial apart and clean it. Here is my dad welding the sill on. And after welding you have to cut the welding spots off. It wasnt really that important here as this part of the car will be hidden underneath the bumper when its back on. The grinder we have is so big and powerful we used it to grind away any excess metal or over hanging metal. While that was happening I was stipping the interior of my car out as not to catch fire from all the sparks and to see if there was any rust inside. Thank God there wasnt. Here are a few pics of the inside with the interior taken out. And for Nelson, the carpart was the heaviest part really. ;) Here is a picture of the Z amp, Clarion too, and next to it is the ABS pump thing. I took the picture because I have never seen it and I know a few people ask where it is. Stuart

indiglo gauges
They say they want for starters, but will that be 50 the same. I know that it wont be hard to change the Series 1 and 2 thing, but will they do UK and Jap in the same order? When a Jap has been converted is the spacing of the numbers different. Ie. is the 60MPH and 60KPH in the same location on the dial. I know converters change the KPH dial into MPH and they both goto 180 but is the spacing the same? Stuart

No there isnt many places to jack it up. Let alone find a place where the axel stands and leave you access to under the car. Stuart

Smalll cooler thing
I dont think any Jap has it. Cos I know when people buy a skyline from Japan they get diff coolers and other coolers installed that are on the UK model but not Jap. Stuart

Taking my car apart. The Diary.
Day 3 things will start to happen I think. The new sills will be welded on and have underseal painted on. The rear arches will be sanded down and painted with undercoat and 1 or 2 layers of paint, and we are taking off the drivers sill infront of the rear wheel which if anything like the other will be a mess. Then its onto the front :( Oh Well, it will have more steel plating on than Challenger tank when its finished. Not doing my MASS any good. ;) Stuart

Smalll cooler thing
I found a smaller cooler/radiator on the drivers near the diff. Is this a diff oil cooler? Stuart

De-Cat pipes?
Warren If you read a post I did later I admitted that the decat wouldnt make any difference so :p Also, Warren I object you having a A10 Tankbuster plane on your sig. At least get it accurate, it has to be bombing a British tank or Kurdish convoy to be true to life. Stuart
