Camel spiders I presume. I think its a half truth. Do a search and you will find that the spiders stop when they reach your shadow. I doubt they are going for the kill, just to get out of the deadly heat.
  8. My dad owned a RWD Sierra Cosworth for a few years, they are a very fast car. He has owned a few cars even a Porsche 911 and he said the Cosworth was better. However he has driven my ZX and said that it's better than the Cosworth. Although it wasn't a modified Cosworth. He says the 300ZX handled better, as the rear of the Cosworth was a little tail happy, but he never remembered the front giving way. The 300ZX is probably the opposite. Even though the back will come out but it will be due to too much power while cornering. If you dont have too much power you will find the front on a 300ZX will start to give way first. You have to look at the perpose of the cars. The Cosworth is a fantastic car in its class and I would class it as a hot hatch. Cosworth got a Sierra chassis and put new suspention on it, wheels, engine parts, brakes etc. Nissan started with a blank peice of paper and designed it all with the spec in mind. 0-60 with a Cosworth and stock 300ZX, I would say the Cosworth may have a slight advantage becuase its quite a bit lighter. But the extra torque from the extra litre and V6 configuration as soon as the cars are into 2nd gear, the 300ZX will pull away from the Cosworth. As for working on the car. Most 300ZX are only a little younger than a RWD Cosworth and would still have problems due to age. However, 300bhp for a 3 litre twin turbo has a lot less stress on engine parts than a 270bhp 2 litre single turbo, especially when the engine was only designed for 225bhp (If I remember correctly) There are a couple of nice 300ZXs for sale at the moment on the For Sale section. Try get a ride in a 300ZX. Its the only real way you can find out.
  9. The rev problem and the fan coming on points to the water temp sensor failure. As a fail safe the ECU turns the fan on all the time when it cant detect the water temperature. Also, if the water temp sensor is not working correctly it can make the car almost impossible to start up and when it does, runs like a dog and you have to keep using the accelerator to stop it from stalling. Try checking the connection to the water temp sensor. Give the contacts a clean, take the sensor out and give that a clean too. Look at this page if you dont know where the water temp sensor is. http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=26120 Its Nº14 near the bottom. Stuart
  10. The fan blows air onto a temperature sensor in the roof. When you set your air con to 25ºC, for example, it does not blow out air at 25ºC. The air con blows cold air if the inside temp is warmer than 25ºC and warm air if the inside temp is colder than 25ºC. The fan blows air onto the temp sensor so the air con knows what temperature it is inside the car. I think there is a sensor in one of the footwells. I cant see how the fan not working will make the air con not work. It may give the temp sensor not a totally accurante reading. I dont think you are meant to hear the fan, I can only just hear the fan in my car when I turn the ignition on.
  11. Where did I say fail? I said wear out.
  12. But when it wears out, an new universal sender will cost you £6-7. When a mechanical one goes it will cost you a new dial.

  15. Now tell me which quote is better. Previous insurer (Wont say who they are) Mods declared: Traction Control, Air Filter, SS Exhaust, (That is all I had on when I took the policy out and I have not told them about the mods going on now) 6000 miles a year, Voluntary Excess, £650 Classic insurance, Domestic and social pleasure use. Cost £970 (Up £120 from last year) Houghton Mods declared: Traction Control, Air Filter, SS Exhaust, Lightened Pulley, Forged Pistons, Uprated Intercoolers, 555cc Injectors, Boost Controller, Alloy wheels, 5000 miles a year, Voluntary Excess, £350 Classic insurance, Domestic and social pleasure use. Parked on the drive, Just over £450 How do these people stay in business? Fantastic price and very efficient service and very friendly people. I phoned them on Wednesday and gave the details and was told they would ring back with a quote later in the day. About 5 O'clock they rang back and asked if they could ring tomorrow because some insuracne companies where busy or they where having difficulty getting in touch with thm, or something. Thursday afternoon rang with this fantastic quote. :D And to be honest, when I was reading out the list of mods I was thinking at the back of my mind, "This is going to be expensive" :D But its not. Give them a go. :D Stuart
  16. What I was meant to say is if 2 cars a close, it will only be able to detect the 2nd car. What are you taking away from the driver? Sorry you are Nigel Mansell aren't you, your the worlds greatest driver. Sorry you are 4 Nigel Mansells becuase he is so fat and you are a weedy fooker! Can you please tell me how making the cats eyes light up so they dont rely on reflecting head lights takes away from the driver and makes the road more dangerous? By that logic taking away cats eyes altogether will make you driver better. How about take the lines off too, or how about taking your head lights off? A little extreme you think? According to you, making the road layout brighter is more dangerous, so by that logic making it darker makes it safer? Or are you talking from your personal experience, so infact it is YOU who pays less attention when the road lay out is better lit? If so that makes you a shit driver! SORRY! Your Nigel Mansell! I forgot. What exactly does it take away from the driver Andy? Does it take the steering from the driver? Does it take the accelerator from the driver?
  17. I have been on a road in the Lakes. They dont change colour like the ones on the M8 but the do light up, which is really strange, because you can see this snake of cats eyes going into the distance for miles, and they turn off a few mins after you pass. The speed camera which display your number plate, do they actually give you a ticket? I though it was more to embarass you to slow down, or to inform you that you are speeding. I have gone past a similar thing, do 38 in what I though was a 30mph zone. I saw a sign saying, "LIMIT 30 YOUR SPEED 38" and I slowed down straight away, which is a lot safer than just giving me a ticket and me carrying on down the road at a what they call, an unsafe speed. They do work. I slowed down what is what the council say the want to do. If there is a speed camera 200 yards further on, fair enough I was warned.! Stuart
  18. Any news on this MAC? Your 4 weeks have come and are long gone. Whats the ETA now?
  19. These are not speed camera. They are cats eyes which light up and dont rely on reflecting light. They are very good as you can see the outline of the road as far as you can see and not just past the beam of your lights. They can also change colour to help road saftey. If you are catching up to a car infront, they will change colour or start to flash. Same with oncoming traffic or if there is an accident and they could also change colour if you are belived to be speeding. They work by detecting where you are by detecting your head lights. As you go past a cats eye, your head lights wont be shining on the light sensor, so it knows you have gone past. It can estimate how fast you are going by the time it takes to go past each cats eye, or probably ever 3 or 4 cats eye. That is it. No radar, just light. This is not enough to prove you are speeding. For example, you could be traveling at the correct speed and the car behind you is speeding but as you travel past the cats eye, the car lights behind you trip it off again before it detects you have gone past. And if this car is speeding it will just think it is 1 car with very bright lights and its speeding. Not 1 car traveling correctly and the one behind going too fast. This is NO WAY, these can be used for speed cameras. For starters there is no camera in the world which can take a photo of a number plate when its got headlights shining directly at it, and if so the detection of speed is no where near accurate enough. Even with radar, it would have to point upwards where trees, birds or even litter can set it off. I wish people would stop being paranoid. Yes there are too many cameras in this country, but that is what a Labour government has done. 2 other parties have said they will slash the number of speed camera. Already there are a number of councils around the country who have taken down speed camera and speed bumps. However this doesnt mean that every thing that is in place on the roads is to catch people speeding. I have driven on a road which have these lights and they are fantastic. They detect where are on the road and light up the next 1 or 2 miles of road but if there is nothing coming the other way, the cats eyes behind you are off. Yon when a car is coming because you notice the cats eyes in your mirrors are turned on. These are a fantasitc idea, one of a very small amount of ideas which actually do make make roads safer.
  20. I saw a pic a few days ago and the PTU was near the airfilter

    Later ones had precats.
  23. LOL. Its a good deal, but make sure you can prove its condtion. Lots and lots of pics inside and out. You cant take pics of its condition after some git stole it and burned it out. Touch wood that wont happen.
  24. £54k? You could have got a 2nd hand Diablo, or a NEW Noble M12 GTO which does 0-60 faster than any Lambo or Porsche. I think standard its 4.3.
