SE Nissan - my experience
my impressions were that so long as you didnt need an engine re-build they were just 'quite busy' However if you do need an engine re-build then you're in for a megga wait. Hence no forged pistons for me - maybe next year :D

SE Nissan - my experience
PLEASE EXCUSE MY MONOLOGUE As a relatively new owner of a zed ( ok ok so I wrote the 1st one off ) I have often been told much bull from different garages – mainly Nissan. ……..and although a lot of advice on the forum has been appreciated a lot has been speculative or contradictory. So for any newer members than me I would like to put into words my 1st experience with SE Nissan. 1st of all I phoned Pete to say I was in the area this afternoon and could I visit him just to have a chat about an insurance valuation and future works I have planned for the zed. He told me that he was on his own but if I didn’t mind him answering the phone then I was welcome. Now I’m not the most technical of people but Pete spent over 2 hrs asking what I wanted out of my zed and what mods he could provide to achieve the results (and No it isn’t just max bhp) I found Pete both knowledgeable and understanding of someone who like cars but really doesn’t know much about them. And on my first meeting I would wholly recommend them. I know it is easy to bash people for poor service so I would like to praise someone for a good service. I know the proof of the pudding is in the eating ‘n’ all but I am hopeful that when my zed goes in on the 27th I will be impressed with the results. For those that are interested I am having the following works carried out. Overheating problem diagnosed & sorted Paddle clutch replaced for standard (industrial strength) Turbo Dynamics roller bearing stage II hybrids fitted New Cam to bring the torque lower down the rpm range Vernier pulleys fitted Aluminium belt pully Aluminium fly-wheel Engine re-mapped. Large bore exhaust downpipes For those of you who don’t know warren’s old car this will be on top of 555 injectors, induction, emanage, HKS superdragger and blitz dump valves. The aim will hopefully be a 450-480 bhp zed with a decent pick up and good torque low/middle. I’ll let you know how it she goes :D Regards, Alex

hybrids vs stock turbos
oh god andy - thanks for confusing me when i thought i had it sorted. After speaking to turbo dynamics this is the really really simple version. if the actuator is set at 14 psi you cannot set a boost controller anything less than this. With experience they estimate you can set a boost controller up to double this. i.e 28psi you are able to run less than 14psi if you have re-circ's or dump valves controlled by the boost controller. I hope this helps  Regards, alex

p.s. probabaly wasnt you - i cruised past in the outside lane doing 95 in my 1.8 astra while the banana was doing 70 on the inside. IS YELLOW THE SLOWEST COLOUR?

Attn : Kirby and anyone else in a banana
HI Mike, havent spoken in a while - how is the banana? p.s. saw a banana whith two single exhausts on the m1 luton ish this evening - she looked really sweet - dont suppose it was you? Regards, Alex

hybrids vs stock turbos
ok - so the actuator psi setting is not the level that the wastgagte opens i.e. maximum level. what the hell is the point in setting the minimum boost level to 14psi why not set it at 0 so you can set whatever boost level you want. Regards, alex p.s. sorry if its a daft question.

hybrids vs stock turbos
Sorry guys - now i'm confused - and i dont mind to admit it. why dont I get 2 bar actuators and control the level of boost with the emanage system? Regards, Alex

hybrids vs stock turbos
hi mac - i heard steve had that problem - 80mph on the motorway and running 18psi - very scary. boost control will be with a greddy e-01 hopefully SE or someone can set up the fuel mapping on the emanage system. With this does it matter what the actuators are set at ? The TD stage II come with 14psi actuators as standard although they say they will supply them with whatever anyone wants. Regards, Alex

hybrids vs stock turbos
HI Smithy, ahh - se stainless downpipes - i might get over there - what was the head work you had done to seal the head - i'm a bit of a numpty when it comes to techincal stuff. i think the standard td stage II turbos come with a 14psi actuator for those people not running boost controllers - with a boost controller wouldnt this limit the top pressure to 14psi - again being a bit of a numpty i might have got this completely arse about face. The price i had was without VAT so put me down for a group buy. when do you think you will have enough people. Regards, Alex

hybrids vs stock turbos
HI Smithy, stage II MD217 (ns) and MD218 (os) £995 each. quoted from progress engineering but no figure on fitting yet. I was going to have a 2mm metal head gasket because i was led to believe that the standard one wont cope with more than 1 bar. The engine was rebuilt last dec by progress so they might be being a bit on the conservative side - i was thinking better to be safe than sorry. - New TB22's were fitted last dec as well but they've blown a gasket already. at 18 psi what did you have the actuators set at? and what in the way of boost control and fueling control do you use? how does your prop cope with 18 psi - you thought about a single piece? oh - one last one - did you upgrade the downpipes on your exhaust - i am running hks but with standard downpipes - only solution i can find is custom made. Regards, Alex

hybrids vs stock turbos
Hi Smithy, definitely interested - are they the stage 2 roller bearing jobbies - i was about to buy these myself from turbo dynamics - what do you do about the 14psi actuator - do you up-rate them? - let me know about any group buy and i'll be in - if you cant get enough people then no worries i am going to go ahead with this anyway. What do you do about the head gasket - i was thinking about 2 mm - rate the head and turbos to 2 bar an run approx 16psi. let me know on here or email me on cjxxxx@ntlworld.com Regards, Alex

yeh progress are quite reasonable although they seem really busy at the moment. The best person to ask for a reference is SteveE they have done a lot of work to his car for some time now.
