  1. Sounds pretty cool. :) Being more than a bit of a muso and guitar and music production freak myself it sounds like it's right up my street! Nope, unfortunately I didn't go to the Musikmesse, I was (still am I think!) involved with photographing the Hair and Beauty event held at the Messe Frankfurt every year. Photographing scantily clad models is a tough job but somebody's got to do it dammit! :wack:
  2. I know it well. It's ridiculously big! And the Exhibition Halls where I imagine you went are bloody huge to boot. Been to Frankfurt about 8 times now and always seem to have a good time there. A light Schöfferhofer Hefeweizen and one of the best steaks in the whole world can be found at the "Steinerne Haus" in the Old Quarter: http://www.steinernes-haus.de/e/index.htm Weirdly, they have a "Skyscraper Day"...celebrating...er...skyscrapers...there's a fair and everything...strangeness indeed!
  3. I despise this film. Me and my better half and I were clock watching throughout the whole ordeal as we were so bored. Interesting geek fact: in the original (FAR better) film, the alien tells the woman she has to say "Klaatu barada nikto" to the robot Gort. These were later used as names for aliens by George Lucas in Star Wars! :D EDIT: just Googled the words to check I wasn't spouting half remembered claptrap and found a whole page on them in Wikipedia! :D Apparently Nikto is a species in Star Wars not a name but what the hey...close enough for government work. ;) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klaatu_barada_nikto
  4. Keeping my fingers crossed that someone can help me out with this one! On my bands website there's a section for video files which looks like this: Essentially, you click the Post It note (on the actual site, each "note" has the title of the video in question written on it) and the video appears on the screen. Up till now the videos have been hosted on a private server (massive thanks go to Matt, "mtl" for allowing me to use his server for nothing...the guy is a true gent! :) ). However, as time goes by, the number of videos is going to increase and it's eventually going to become impossible to host them all on that server as they're going to take up a heck of a lot of room (each one is/will be between 60Mb and 100Mb). Myself and the programmer Stu (another first rate chap who I was put in touch with by "Apache") have been trying to figure out a way to link to the files hosted on YouTube (or elsewhere...I'm happy to host them anywhere tbh!) but, and this is the problematic bit, still keep the custom made G.U.I. we're now using and not have to scrap it and replace it with the nasty standard YouTube player. The 3 video files from one of our gigs are already up on YouTube (as I link to them in my MySpace Blog see: http://www.youtube.com/user/fridayUK ) but Stu tells me he needs the "absolute" file names to be able to show the video without the YouTube player...but we can't figure out how to get them for love nor money. Can anyone help? This is a pretty big thing as it could potentially really screw with the look of the site if we have to use the dreaded YouTube player skin...it would be a crying shame if we had to lose the G.U.I. we put together as we both worked really hard on it. :( Will be keeping fingers firmly crossed that someone has a solution! :) Cheers, Leigh.
  5. Seem the Mode quite a few times live now but distinctly remember seeing them play at Crystal Palace way back in...[cough] [cough]...with the Sisters of Mercy supporting (I'm a fan of Temple of Love but that's about it!)...was quite funny seeing the clusters of teenage Sisters fans in their matching frilly white shirts and bad make-up mixing in with the Mode fans! :wack: And I'm going to see them again at the NEC....whoop! :D :D
  6. Sorry man, I'm tied up till Sunday but let me know next time you're up. :)
  7. You're so wrong it actually hurts.
  8. YES! Dave, the guy's a leg-end and a massive influence on my own music. In fact Trent Reznor, another influence on me, probably wouldn't exist if it wasn't for Numan. Have to confess though that the last thing I bought of his was back in 2003 when he released "Hybrid" (a phenomenal remix/collaboration double album). "Down In The Park" is in my "Top 20 best tracks ever" list! :D The new album's worth getting then? :)
  9. In our acoustic set we perform a very dark, slowed down, stripped back version of "Can I Play With Madness"... And funnily enough the first "music" T Shirt I ever bought when I was about 13 bore the uber-cool artwork to "Stranger In A Strange Land". Derek Riggs rules.
  10. For us it was on a moonlit beach in Abu Dhabi. Did the whole "down on one knee" thing with a hideously expensive ring bought from the jewellers in the Hilton where we were staying (that she'd coo-ed over earlier that day). Didn't plan it in advance as such, just decided to do it after she spotted her "ideal" ring (heart shaped diamond) in the afternoon and after having dinner in a restaurant on the beach in the evening it seemed a good idea! :D ;)
  11. I can name 4-5 points at a cursory glance that give the game away that the image has been "photoshopped" within an inch of its life. ;)
  12. Getting a wee bit closer to the final date for pressing the album (hurrah!) so....anymore for anymore? :D ;)
  13. Image Wheels every time. Was shown round their business a while back and the quality of their wheels is superb. It's what the V8 Z will eventually be wearing.
  14. I've done a couple for members in the past but it's a hellish job and I'm not cheap, lol! However, without blowin' me own trumpet, I get a damn good finish ;) Would be £200 not including postage if I did one again. If you fancy taking a gander at some of my previous work look here: http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=84852 http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=57005
  15. Right! Had a damn good think about it, hit Google hard looking into various options and I've decided to go a different route. I'm now going to pair my existing 24" Acer with a 20" LG screen for studio work and instead of buying a 24" Acer from the Ebay seller I'm going to go with a Samsung monitor I've had my eye on for a while. After trying to exhaust all my other options before taking the plunge I found that the price of the Samsung model I'd previously wanted had now come down to within my reach, and only £40 difference between it and the Ebay item...which made it a bit of a no-brainer. Although 2 24" screens would've been great in the studio if I b@stardise the 20" to go with it I only need to buy one screen to pair with our home system and with money being tight it seems the right thing to do...plus I get the peace of mind from knowing the warranty is sound and that the after-sales from Samsung should be a damn sight better than Acer! Fingers crossed I don't need it... ;) I can finally relax! lol :D ;)
  16. Yep, I know I've said it myself but you're spot on...we're members of the EU so you'd think that logically it "should" stand. It's just the fact that we get seperate "UK" warranties whereas mainland Europe gets EU warranties that muddies the water a bit
  17. Thank you for those pearls of wisdom. I didn't say I was buying them because they were a bargain though so don't make assumptions as it's more than a little patronising! ;) There's a £240 saving to be had and I'd end up with a dual monitor system that I've been wanting for years which would make my life working in my music studio so much easier (as I spend half my life there).
  18. Thanks for the reply chap. Trouble is, from what I've heard about Acers customer service record, by the time I receive a reply they'll have already been sold and even if they were prompt I'd probably only get it by tomorrow afternoon at the earliest which again may well be too late. Arse and indeed double arse. :( Am considering chancing it at the moment as the price is very good. Oh cr@p, I'm terrible at making rush decisions like this! lol! ;)
  19. Bit of an obscure question but I'm hoping someone might still be up and about that can shed some light on it! Was looking at purchasing 2 monitors off Ebay from a private seller who deals regularly in computer gear. The monitors are currently in the UK but were originally bought (in a batch of 4 apparently) in Germany and as such have an EU rather than specifically UK manufacturer warranty. As the seller has stated they won't accept returns or do refunds if the units are faulty, the warranty is reasonably important (although I have a sneaking suspicion that Acer, the manufacturer, don't accept dead pixels as reasons for repair/refund but heigh-ho ). There are now only 2 of them left so I'd be incredibly grateful if someone could tell me whether the warranty would stand if needed? I know we're in the EU but I'm also aware that we often get seperate UK warranties which is why I'm a bit concerned...Any help would be great as worried I'm going to see them disappear if I don't act fast! Cheers, Leigh.
  20. Or you could buy mine... :D http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=124095
  21. Health is a wee bit up and down but nothing new there tbh mate...musn't grumble! :D ;) BIG thanks to those that came to our gig at the Birmingham Academy last Sunday...the place was packed and we had a great night! :D Thought I'd give this thread a quick bump in case there's anyone else that fancies putting their name down for a copy or two :)
