Outside trim question.
Cheers for the info fella's! :) Nice to know someone has resprayed them bodycolour as I think that's the route I'm going to take...in keeping with my "keep it smooth" bodywork philosophy! ;) :D Leigh.

Outside trim question.
Went down the garage today to have a look at what else needs doing to the bodywork and realised I'd forgotten about something that needs major attention: the outside trim. I can take the remaining front wipers and scuttle panel off and spray those myself quite easily but it's the black painted (not sure what it is really as it almost looks rubberised?) metal trim that runs across the roof that I'm wondering about. As I imagine most people find, it's peeled off in places exposing the metal underneath (see attachment: excuse the photo, the metal looks black due to the lighting and the black covering looks grey from the filler dust! ;)). I was wondering if it might be feasible to strip this covering off, prep the metal underneath and body colour it when it's resprayed? How do people usually approach this problem? Cheers, Leigh.

Re-siting washer jets: options?
Well, I've kind of forced my hand here as I decided to whip 'em out after I'd finished working on the rear bumper and now the holes are in the process of being smoothed into the bonnet! :D So it's either going to be re-siting them on the scuttle panel (at a glance it looks easy enough) or finding out if the washer/arm combo is feasible. ;) Leigh

Nice one Vijay, would be great if someone has time to write up an FAQ for this! ;) Leigh.

After market wing mirrors (again!)
Nah, I know what you're saying mate. The M3 style mirror has been done a helluva lot. Would be great to find a decent alternative. Funnily enough I was talking about fabbing something up with a mate today when he came over for a cuppa which is what made me post ;)

After market wing mirrors (again!)
Lol! Don't hold back Chris, say what you really mean! ;) :D Like I said I like the look of Ganadors but until they release a model with built in indicators it kind of defeats the purpose for me as it's really a means to an end i.e. being able to get rid of the stock sides.

WTF is in this Zed?
Always think it's good to hear points for and against and different ways of thinking, as it often brings out new and interesting ideas for both sides :) Supercharging has been discussed but not in depth. There are Q45 powered Z32's that run chargers, the one that immediately springs to my addled mind is that owned by Albert in the States but his set-up is in a very high state of tune and also running NOS (approx 2000bhp by all accounts!) as he's chasing some sort of land speed record. His car bit the proverbial 4mph (I think?) shy of 300mph during a run on the salt flats over there. I imagine it will be a case of living with the engine for a bit and assessing the option of a supercharger if it warrants it. :)

After market wing mirrors (again!)
Cheers Alex, the M3 mirrors would do the job I just wonder what the fitment issues would be? Might PM Mickey to pick his brains if he doesn't post here first, cheers for the heads up mate! If you come up with anything I'd definately be interested. :) Leigh PS Blimey, I finally reached 1000 posts with that one! Lol! ;)

WTF is in this Zed?
Fair do's mate, let's put a hold on the debate for the time being :) My bloomin' medication doesn't seem to be working (arse) and I feel too sh1te at the mo to keep this going, lol! ;) Hopefully Johns engine will be here soon so it shouldn't be too long before a comparison can be made. Cheers, Leigh.

After market wing mirrors (again!)
Been thinking it might be good to ditch the OEM mirrors and go for some aftermarket jobbies. I'd ideally want them automated and with the indicator built in so I can take out and smooth over the side ones. Did a search and saw a few have been suggested. http://www.fk-automotive.de/en/index.php http://www.streetbeatcustoms.com/mirrors.html The Ganador's look good but unfortunately they don't appear to have the indicator built in. Has anyone had any more luck and found anymore info on what might do the job and fit the Zed? Cheers, Leigh

Great Zed site
Did a quick search in case this has been posted before (I posted it on another thread then thought it was worth one of its own!) but I found this great Zed site the other day http://www.zfilms.org/Stories/Z32/index.html Lots of race/track orientated stuff plus a wealth of crackin' photos and movies. Definately one to have a look at. Leigh.

WTF is in this Zed?
Exactly the point I was making and what I firmly believe in mate. At the end of the day this is a hobby, a past-time, something we do for fun! :) As a closing note, although I never mentioned using my Zed as an out and out track car, funnily enough I found a great site the other day which deals with this exact topic.http://www.zfilms.org/Stories/Z32/index.html Think you'll find the whole site quite interesting. Check out his "GTRstalking" experience http://www.zfilms.org/Stories/Z32/2002/02-08/index.html (40MB download almost at the bottom of the page)...very encouraging for all Zed owners! ;) :D Leigh.

WTF is in this Zed?
With the suspension properly sorted the Zed handles very very well for a sub £10000 car. Isn't that one of the reasons we buy these cars Ian? If we all had unlimited funds we'd be off in Ferrari land (with a heavily modded Zed parked out back for the hell of it!;)). Of course there are better handling cars out there, I'll be the first to put my hand up and admit that, but our aim is to make a fun car that we will enjoy driving for (comparatively) very little money. It's fun and exciting because we are in competition with no one but ourselves.

WTF is in this Zed?
We're not using slim's engine mounts. The engine will be sited lower and further back in the bay. As I said previously the precedent has already been set and it's a set up that works very well. It's a much lighter (aluminium) engine than the VG30DETT (a little under 500lbs compared to almost 600lbs off the top of my head); there is better power delivery (for the type of car we want to drive i.e. something responsive through the twisties rather than a straight line "drag" orientated set-up) very respectable low-end torque and tremendous high RPM juice, overall a smoother, more linear acceleration; the parts for the conversion are available and actually suit the Zed better than most transplant cars; the complete cost will be almost the same as taking the plunge down the "normal" upgrade path (it's having optional modifications such as going dry sump that can raise the cost); the VH45DE is stronger than stock (one of the reasons why it's used in the Indy cars as a Infiniti 35A engine), although the 90-93 models are more desirable as they retain the VVT and aren't encumbered by emissions regs, one noted weakness was the cam chain in these years however this can be rectified; "if" someone wanted to make a "straight line" street drag car, then it is also the ideal engine to do this with (as has been shown already in the States); the Emerald engine management should work very well with the set-up (after going over to Norwich, Dave seemed very excited about the project. A thoroughly nice bloke! :)); finally (although there are more pro's) John is a good mate and I trust his judgement when it comes to cars implicitly.

WTF is in this Zed?
Luckily the precedent has already been well and truly set and there are a couple of guys in the States selling everything needed for the swap. As far as price goes, including buying the engine, the rest of the parts, sorting the engine management (courtesy of Dave Walker at Emerald) etc it roughly equates to the cost of uprated turbo's, coolers, injectors etc. The whole project is all down to John though, without him (and his mad genius!) I wouldn't be doing any of this! ;) :D

Commodore 64 and Amiga Emulator?
Cheers for the info mate! Thinking about it I'll see about the C64 and Amiga first but I reckon it won't be long after that I'll be getting in touch if I get hooked again! ;) :)

Is it me
I think Mike maybe updating the Rides section...?
-
WTF is in this Zed?
Lol! :D From listening to the guys that have done the swap it seems to be a very good idea for what we want out of a car. Sure, there are downsides to everything, particularly when it comes to engines as I'm sure you'll agree ;) but in the end you've just got to bite the bullet as you know only to well, haven't you mate? ;)

Commodore 64 and Amiga Emulator?
Jay, Dave C and Skylinedave, it would be great if you guys could help me out! Can supply discs/postage etc, no problem. Like I said it would be great to have a crack at them again! :) On a secondary but still relevant point...is there any easy (and in-expensive!)way to view and play through your TV screen? Just a thought... Leigh.

Prefer Nissan V8's in a Zed myself but then I'm biased. ;)

shakespeare county raceway
I'd definately be interested in this. :D I know a guy who races there with one of the Top Fuel Teams and he's always said I should go but I've never got round to it. Stupid really as it's not that far away from me! Leigh.

New Lady member saying Hi
Hi Kitten. Now this could get confusing as my girlfriend is registered as "Kitty" on here! :D Same situation, it's me who owns the car but it's her that's eyeing it up for herself! ;) No doubt she'll make a rare appearance on here and say hi at some point! Cheers, Leigh P.S. Please ignore the testosterone level on here, it's gone through the roof the past couple of days. Some people are definately in need of a cold shower and a good long lie down in a darkened room!

Commodore 64 and Amiga Emulator?
Hoping some of you guys that are more computer literate than me (not difficult!) can help me with this one. I grew up with the old C64 and Amiga and would love to play all the old games again on my PC. I've had a look at the emulators available for download but there always seems to be more than just one type so I'm a bit confused as to what to go for, and when I've downloaded one I can never get it to work (can't seem to find one with a friendly user-interface). Would someone mind putting up a step by step guide that even an idjeet like me can't get wrong as it would be great to play them again. :) Leigh [fondly reminiscing over Manic Miner, The Last Ninja etc, etc...] P.S. (I already have Limewire and Edonkey installed if it's easier to download from there?)
