  1. Can you check its all working okay Clarkey? Looks like the links are somehow pointing at the wrong directory  Adding the filenames on to the end of the index's URL works, but some of the pics still give a 404.
  2. See the black & white paintjob? Can't really make it out in that picture but its loads of overlapping black and white horses. They've based it on a real paintjob done by Rinspeed on a Z for the 1992 Geneva show. Got a piccy of it in a book I have, but I just found their website too, and sure enough ...
  3. Cheers Hairsy :)
  4. Bollocks, I missed it! And they had the Zonda on it? Double bollocks! Loving looking car, I reckon, and great to drive too. Erm, in Gran Turismo 3, that is :D
  5. This reminds me of a dumb thought that gone through my mind a few times while tootling around with the roofs off. Like Timmy said, it's bloody noisy for one thing, and judging by the rush of air that comes forwards past your ear, the rear of the car acts as a pretty spectacular air scoop - the aerodynamic drag must be massive. So it makes me wonder (and yes, I know this is stoopid :D) what if that air had an escape route? What if you pop the bootlid, obviously tie it to the latch so it doesn't go skywards, thus leaving about an inch or so's gap? :) No more air blowback, surely much reduced drag, and quite possibly a lot less noise to boot (sorry). I now throw myself on your mercy :D
  6. Short and sweet one: does anyone know of a place that will do split-rim alloy refurbishment? Thanks :)

I fancied doing mine like that (at the moment the left pair are reversing lights and the right pair are fogs). After having a look inside though, it turns out that behind both the lenses on either side there is a just a single bulb, so there'd have to some sort of jiggery pokery done to get (a) extra bulbs positioned properly, and (b) a deviding plate to stop the bulbs shining out of the wrong lenses.

80k miles sounds like quite a lot for an import... of course it could just mean that it hasn't been clocked ;) 80k also means it should have had a new timing belt 20k miles ago. Additionally, if I remember correctly the official lifespan of the turbos is somewhere around that figure too. Although, with common sense care a lot of people have clocked well over 100k on the original pair. Probably the most expensive fix-it jobs on the 300 are turbo related actually, so check they're okay. Once the car's warmed up, give it some heavy right foot. Make sure the turbo gauge climbs near the top of the scale; if it doesn't then the car could be stuck in safety boost for some (probably expensive) reason. Check the mirror for any exhaust smoke during heavy boost too. A short puff of light smoke is okay, but anything darker spells trouble. Once you're back at the garage, let it idle for a while - if it starts smoking that's not good. What else? Hmm. Check all the electrics I suppose; mirrors, windows, seats, etc. Are you aware of the various trim levels of the 300? Powered driver & passenger seats, climate control with LCD display and cruise control may or may not be present on your test car. HTH as a starting point. Good luck!
  9. Personally, I think the forum(s) have undergone a massive change for the better. I'd hate to see it return to how it was before the changeover. I was a bit surprised to read your post actually, Timmy. I thought you were enjoying it here lately.
  10. Doesn't the auto box have a sensor that knocks it into Power mode when you boot it? Maybe it's that that's failing?
  11. Switched to Optimax recently and the local Shell pumps seem quite Z-friendly :) The Tesco pumps I used to use were real bastards. Maybe performance cars share similar fuel tank neck designs, and Shell shaped the Optimax nozzles with that in mind? :D

The OP does have a point: outside of the import scene, 'jap' is a derogatory term. However, Peter, since the word is only used here in association with the import scene, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Could be that the drainage channels are blocked. If I remember correctly, they run down inside the A-pillars.

Well, with so far only 4 black Z's declared out of a membership of about 1200, the chances are slim ;)
  15. Doesn't the site's front page (or following the 300zx.co.uk Bulletin Board link at the top of each page) give you this functionality? Am I missing some extra forums?? ;)

You're right that the HICAS is disabled whenever the warning light is on. It's possible to disable the system completely (the Americans like doing this) but I think the general consensus is that HICAS can only enhance the drive - even (especially?) if you like getting it sideways :)
  17. Yep, the 'open door' chime is the only one I get (even though I still have the 110mph limiter)
  18. Reversing chime? I dunno, everybody else's j-spec cars seem so musical, singing and chiming when they reverse, go fast, or whatever - mine seems to have lost her voice :D I guess that means it's possible to disable the sfx; no idea how, though - sorry.
  19. The pages don't update by themselves, you have to press "Reload" every now and again ;)
  20. Looks like the red, white & blue cars in the middle of the pic are recreating the "hiding in the car park" scene from The Italian Job :D
  21. If you have peeling white, get to a bodyshop!

I like stuff that messes with your head a bit. "Fight Club" was pretty cool. "Twelve Monkeys" too. On the other hand, I also like some throwaway trash every now and again. "Demolition Man" is one I always make time for when it gets a repeat on the telly :) Of course it probably helps that Sandra Bullock is in it :D
  23. Jay, Well-spotted - you're exactly right!
  24. Hehe, funny you should mentioned that Clarkey - cleaning out my Z a while back I found some sort of weird japanese chewy sweet under the drivers seat! Extremely soft and gooey, but thankfully still wrapped up nice and tight :)
  25. Before we swapped to the new server, someone mentioned how badly 911 drivers take a thumping - you're so right :) Sat on the line at lights on a roundabout waiting to join the M3 I see this 911 swap lanes to get behind me - of course, that's fighting talk. Lights went green and he dropped away so fast I thought he'd stalled! This motorway slip is basically a big long S-bend, and by the time I started merging with the M-way I'd almost forgotten about him, but just as I started approaching legal speeds again he came roasting past me like Satan himself was chomping on his arse. I was only on the M-way for a one-junction hop so I let him go, but as it happenned he took the same exit as me :) The exit slip ends with a weird roundabout arrangement where both lanes onto the roundabout are used to turn right. Mr 911 was sat at the end of queue in lane 2, so I swept past in the empty-as-usual lane 1 - once again he quickly swapped lanes and pulled up behind me at the line. The exit off this roundabout was a single-lane but wide stretch of road nearly a mile long, and he was kept in his place all the way along it (even though he'd obviously been taken by surprise the time) ;) He headed off in another direction at the end of this roundabout though. My glance over for a thumbs-up was very rigidly ignored... :D
