Question for those using Lifesure
Interesting info Gio, thanks. Seems a bit unfair that they took one of your 'lives' until the third party's insurer covers costs, but I suppose that's insurers for ya =/ So, hopefully, since I still have all my NCB lives, the premium shouldn't change if I claim...

Question for those using Lifesure
Just wondering - I took out NCB protection on my policy, and on the insurance document it lists how many "lives" the protection has remaining. Does this mean that if I make a claim, they won't jack up the premium until I run out of lives? Or is it just that I get to keep my NCB years? (oh and a thankyou to those who followed up on my 'injured car' thread - I haven't been able to visit the board for a few weeks and so didn't get to answer at the time :) )

Injured car...
Hi all - wow, it's been a while again, many changes since I last visited :) Unfortunately, its bad news that brings me back... Its almost exactly the 3rd anniversary of me owning my Z, and as a present, I've gone and bashed her in :( :( Coming out of a junction the wet weather finally caught me out, and I did a very pretty 180 pirouette and thumped the right-rear wheel into a kerb sideways. The rim of the alloy has broken off but that's the least of my worries. The wheel itself is loose; looks like some aspect of the RWS has snapped or something. I managed to limp a mile or so back to work, but the car is crabbing badly and doesn't sound like it wants to be subjected to any more stress. Just wondering if anyone can offer any advice? Guesses to what I might have broken, how much £££ those rear end parts can be, and where I might be able to get it taken to get it sorted... Failing that, anyone who might be interested in an otherwise perfect 300zx... [cry] Thanks guys, Raz

How hot is your's?
It generally involves shutting the chip down (or sometimes just parts of it) while its idle. That's how 'CPU Idle' works, certainly.

Eddy, Even owning the Z I still enjoy driving the 306. Handling feels good to me and being fwd you can throw it around the twisties with much more abandon :D Mine's a '94 XTdt, so performance isn't stunning - something like 12.5s 0-60, but to be honest it feels a lot nippier. Consumption doesn't sound good compared to modern diesels; I seem to recall the mpg is quoted at something like 48, but having said that it'll get me up to my parent's place and back on £40, and thats a 600 mile round trip. As for reliability I haven't had much cause to complain. I've had it about 6 years, and before I got the Z I was a bit of a numpty when it came to cars: I let a holed radiator go for too long, which eventually strained a machining fault in the cylinder head (so I was told) that ended up costing me a new head, but apart from that it hasn't demanded anything other than the usual replacables.

I've got a phat Pug 306 turbo-diesel, goes like sh!t off a shovel. That's rather sticky sh!t off a very rusty shovel, mind. :D

NZR: PC help.
There's a 'higher level' method too: Load the "Computer Management" app from Administrative Tools in the Programs menu. Click the "Disk Management" branch on the tree. On the list of disks that (eventually) appears, right click the white area of the disk whose letter you want to change and pick "Change drive letter and path..." from the context menu. You can't change the letter of your boot drive here, o' course. HTH

Rear Fog Lamp
Unfortunately for us symmetrical types, there's only one bulb on each side of the car, each servicing the two slots on their respective sides. A better way might be to just swap the white bulb for a red one. That's the way mine has been done and, when the fog's off, the car looks no different unless you look really closely. Or do what Cully suggested :)

new trim
These guys do some, if that's any help for you. While I'm here, could you possibly answer a dumb question for me? Which direction does the shift knob turn in order to come off, clockwise or anti-? I needed to be in to the rubber boots today, and whichever way I turned it the bloody thing got tighter!

Damn stooopid car
Pete, Halfords do a Magnetic Retrieval Tool - basically a thin telescoping rod - for only a handful of quid. Should be just right for what you need?

oil filter and oil pressure gauge
I've never done it personally, but apparently its a pretty easy job - you shouldn't have to remove much more than the protective undertray to get to it. My mechanic friend who changed mine on my driveway didn't have any problems :) In a word, yes :D The sender units are notoriously bad. 'Normal' operation for mine is to read around the half-way mark until the car warms up, then sit at zero unless I'm driving 'enthusiastically'...

Any veggie Zed owners?
Touché! :D I particularly like the bit about how the perpetrators went about "[...] acquiring condemned poultry fit only for petfood, slicing through mould and green slime to find scraps of remaining pink meat [...]" Still, that's what we have immune systems for, innit? ;)

Hot Cat
I had this problem a year or two back. Apologies if I'm teaching you to suck eggs here, but if it the PTU connection playing up, it'll be causing an intermittent misfire - hence the lumpy running and the unburnt fuel causing your exhaust to overheat. It almost certainly will be dirty contacts; you may as well do all of them while you're in there :)
