  1. Much obliged mate. Its a standard cooler, on a manual car. I'll leave it alone though until I can get it seen to properly. Thanks again!
  2. Hi guys, Just spotted a small pool of oil under the car - probably collected over a week or so - but being a bit dopey when it comes to cars I was wondering what it might be from. On closer inspection it looks like its coming from the oil cooler at the front of the engine: a lot of the bottom of the cooler and all along the horizontal piece at the bottom (there are two bolts on this piece, one at each end) are wet with oil, and I can see its spread all across the front engine cover piece and from there down on to the floor. It quite black oil; blacker than the engine oil, I thought, and sure enough the dipstick level is normal. Any thoughts on what else it could be? Also, I'm loathed to drive it like this, but I could do with using the car tomorrow; think I'd be better off leaving it alone til I can get it looked at? Thanks in advance!
  3. Many thanks for the warm welcome (back) =) Car is a '92 TT 2+2 in blue - mostly stock but for a powerflow exhaust and scarab front bumper. I'll get some pics sorted out this weekend!
  4. Hehe cheers you early risers! Pics? Well, let me get a shave a run a comb through.... oh, I see what you mean ;) My poor neglected girl is stuck in the garage at the moment with a dead battery and a thick layer of dust, but you've just given me a good reason to get her cleaned up again :) My little avatar pic has a bit of a tweaked image of my car, if I remember correctly... yeah, but you can only see it in my profile page, its not showing up anymore in the thread
  5. Hi all, Ok so despite my join date over there Kinda hard to believe its been nearly 9 years since i first signed up...! Or that I've had the Zed nearly that long too... wow... so much change. Anyway, to anyone out there who remembers me - helloo!!! I've spotted a few familiar names still around =) And to all who don't, well, hello to you too - hope to get to know you better in future! Cheers! PJ
  6. I've never seen mine come on either, though I did see it once on another Z I test drove before I got mine. I remember being quite surprised that the indicator light faded on an off... rather than just an instant off/on switch effect. Little things please little minds :D
  7. From my experience of a fibreglass Scarab, it will clear anything but the harshest speedhump/cushion, but it's too low to clear normal kerbs, and can cause trouble too on steep ramps. If you're gonna lower another 3.5cms then I think that's gonna result in lots of diagonal driving :D As for strength, I've scraped mine over a couple of things over the years and it will cause some scarring/flaking, but usually nothing that can't be touched up. Basically it comes down to how careful you are.......
  8. Wishful thinking? ;) http://www.snopes.com/photos/skirts.asp
  9. Lol, that bunch over on SOC are worse than us lot :D
  10. Thanks Simon, great info! Definitely gotta declare a winner :D 0.7 bar is the same as a stock Z, right? So there should be a similar strength push as the Z delivers, just coming in a bit more progressively yeah? We're gonna reset the ecu as soon as she gets a tank of Optimax in, as suggested, and see if that's makes a difference first. Thanks again
  11. Only a highscore of 10, maybe 20 points so far??? Come on you lot, don't think I can't see you all reading this!! :D Ta for the t.timer info - I'd assumed that all of them allowed you to lock up and leave, as I'd been reading up on the Clifford systems that work that way, like Mowgs' Toad.
  12. Added one too; I'm sure it'll continue to fill up over time.
  13. Congrats, looks like this is a good week for getting Z's back on the road :D
  14. A friend of mine just got herself a Skyline R33 GTS, and while having a look at it last night a few curiosities came up. So, as threatened earlier, here's a few questions on the subject of the Z's erstwhile sibling, the Skyline! :D I'm sure a few of you out there can help the poor lady out (and you can award yourselves... oh I dunno, 10pts per question?!?) 1. Do Skyline's normally have the battery in the small partition between the back seats and the boot? What else is supposed to live in there? The seems to be a fusebox in there too. 2. Do Skylines have a safety boost mode like the Z? If so, would a tank of standard unleaded in a japanese mapped Skyline be enough to put the car in safety boost? 3. Following on from 2, any idea what the standard boost levels are in the R33GTS? The stock boost gauge is the same as the j-spec Z's (-7/+7 mmHg), and hers sits at around -2 at idle and rises to about +2 or +3 at WOT. That doesn't look good to me, and to be honest I can't feel a push from the turbo like I do in the Z. Having said that, the Z has an extra turbo and 50bhp on the R33GTS, so does that account for the differences?? Finally a couple of general questions (same points value :D): 4. There's a box in the engine bay, about the size of a double CD (y'know, two CD cases stuck together like the old Playstation games) covered in japanese writing with a Raybrig logo on it. Since Raybrig make bulbs, what the hell might this box be?? 5. Is a turbo timer that doesn't allow you to lock up and walk away until its timer runs out (and always activates even if you only switch the ignition on and don't start the engine!) incorrectly fitted, or just a peculiar example of a turbo timer! And thats it =) I know it would probably make sense to take this post to Skyline group but I just figured it might make an interesting change of topic for a while :D Cheers guys
  15. Well its taken a while but I'm finally road legal again :D What with losing a job last year, then relocating, there's been a severe lack of time and money to sort her out, but finally, with a new steering rack and a pair of pretty Eagle F1's on the front both me and the MOT man are happy  First trip was to go visit a mate last night, who's just got his fiance a Skyline GTS! First time I've had a chance to have a good look at one - there might be a few questions to follow actually, as I know some of you guys have or used to have one =) Anyway, both cars looked pretty good together! Might get them both on the road together sometime for a few 'performance tests' :x: :D
  16. Yeah that got me wondering too. Surely they can't be any brighter than those *******s in the new Beemers and Audi's, and the cops don't pull them. Anyway, how's a cop gonna know they aren't original equipment anyway?? :D
  17. Bandit do you have a uk-spec car? If these bulbs are japanese does that mean they'll drop straight into a j-spec Z??
  18. I'm not with Climax personally though I did get an offer at one point - seems like everyone in the industry has either worked for them at some time or knows at least one person who has :D If you were on Roswell then you probably worked with a mate of mine who was on that for a while too. The last few years has been pretty mercenary for smaller studios, if they don't get eaten by the big names they've generally been going under. Until last year I was with a developer owned by Titus - when they choked on their own frogs legs we were left to get a tribunal verdict of constructive dismissal but still missed out on 2 months wages and redundancy :headvswal
  19. There isn't really any doubt remaining which machine has technical superiority, but of course that rarely decides anything. The XBox monstered the PS2 in techspec but the PS2 had the games. With this generation the tech is the other way around, and apart from the fanboys (like me :D) people are gonna get the machine that has the games they want to play.
  20. I'm still in that lark! Can I ask what made you make the switch? From your last post it sounds like the bad ol' burnout (not the Acclaim variety ;))
  21. Don't believe everything you see of realtime images before you get the finished product :D Alternatively, look at how good Vision Gran Turismo looks, and they haven't even updated the car models yet! turbopsychosis, the Cell processor is basically the PS3s CPU, its actually nothing to do with the graphics chip but it probably has been responsible for producing most of the imagery seen for the PS3 so far (just like older computers produced their graphics with the CPU before 'graphics chips' came along. The PS3's graphics chip is whole other monster entirely, and once that starts getting used, keep a firm grip on your jaw :D
  22. Glad it turned out ok for you!
  23. You might actually have a good chance at catching this *******, but you'll have to reconsider your feeling on paying out for more bodywork. Follow hellraiser's idea and get a decent camera pointing at your car, then before too much time has passed, get the scratch repaired and park in the same place. Chances are good I think that the vandal will take it as some sort of personal challenge and do it again... this time though, you have it on candid camera. Whether this actually leads to a conviction and compensation is debatable though... Sympathies for the car.
  24. Just wanted to check: is the stock front tyre size (for an import, if it matters) 225/50 16? Thanks.
  25. I'm not sure that changing the situation from evasion of duty payment to what would effectively be the theft of a car and its removal from the country would be a sound idea
