  1. Cool! But how do you fit that in the boot of a Z?? :mac1:

    They're probably all twocced!
  4. Nobody can be told what the darkside is, you have to see it for yourself.
  5. August 2000! Like others have said though - rarely get chance to drop in very much now! Not that I ever said much anyway... must have the lowest post ratio of anyone here!! =) Long live 300zx.co.uk !
  6. I downside I can think of is that a few of the post in here mention exactly where the cars are or are likely to be. Do you want someone innocently informing any Tom, Dick or Tea-leaf where you park your Z..? Edit: oops, sorry, I see I'm a bit late :D
  7. Or some similar kit at least, bluish in colour I think. Sorry for lack of detail, we passed quite quickly in the twisties as I headed up Castle Hill out of Farnham this afternoon (Saturday). Cool - is this the first actual 'was it you' post since this forum got renamed? :D
  8. Yeah I suspected the same  If I remember correctly he said that if the rear wheels were forced to turn at different speeds during the test it would damage the LSD - seemed strange to me because, firstly, that's what the thing is there for isn't it?? Secondly, I assume both rear brakes are tested at the same time... :nono: Still, I got my pass, so I suppose I shouldn't complain :) That's why I crammed myself into the back seat and went along :D
  9. So, I was in getting an MOT yesterday, at a place I hadn't been to before, when the tester informs me that because the Z has an LSD they can't test the rear brakes on the rollers like they usually can. He needs to take it out on the road and do a 'Tapley test', with some device that seems like it measures braking g force, or something? Is this actually proper procedure for cars with LSDs or, given that the youngish tester and his mate looked like a couple of cruiser types, have I been taken for a ride? (Literally, as there was no way they were going out with me coming along!)
  10. And I'm another one! Is there a pattern emerging here?? :D
  11. Gaz, click "FAQs" from the blue bar at the top of the page. From there there's a link to a buying guide which should cover most of the things you want to look out for. Hope that helps - by the way, any particular reason you're after an NA?
  12. Can't help with Nismo parts, sorry, but if you're on a budget you could try Cheap Tendons R Us...
  13. Eurospec... that rings a bell as the name of the garage that used to be in Camberley. Maybe they moved. Thanks again for the offer Matt, if I don't get far with my current problem I may well be in touch ;)

Speaking as one of those developers, this may seem nitpicky but you will never actually get the exact same game (in terms of code) on two different consoles. Even if the gamecode itself remains unchanged the lower level libraries will be completely different. As I say, this may seem nitpicky but perhaps it isn't really: these libraries contain the code responsible, say, for taking input from the controllers and for rendering the visual to the screen. Without getting into technicalities, any subtle changes in those two areas between different consoles may well make a detectable difference to the player. Now that's damn right :D I still haven't seen a better vertical-scrolling shoot-em-up since Battle Squadron on the Amiga ;)
  15. Cheers Mathew :) I don't know about Justin, but the extent of my repairing abilities run to topping up fluid levels and that's about it :D My proudest moment is replacing the aerial unit - its much safer being in the boot, away from those millions of engine bits! Justin: That place you linked to looks like its in a different place to the one I'm thinking of. I tracked down its location on Streetmap, check out this map. Look in the middle where Government Road and the A331 intersect (there's no junction there, Gov road is a flyover). Right where it says "G.RD" on the map is a small roundabout where they've placed their sign. They are somewhere down Hollybush Lane to the north.
  16. Ack! Yeah, they do make us suffer don't they... My clock is fast appoaching 100000kms so knowing my luck I'll soon be in the same boat too :D Yeah I could get a mate over to help out. Is that with wheels on the ground or up on stands? What would I be looking for? I've seen the offending leak when the car was up on a ramp at the MOT place.
  17. Hi Justin, I'd be interested in any answers to this too, as I'm just down the road from you in Fleet - congrats on the imminent collection of your Z :D About the only real advice I can give is not to be tempted to visit the Nissan dealer in Aldershot, unless you have bottomless pockets ;) There used to be a place on the Yorktown industrial estate that someone here recommended but I think they've since shut down - I used to pass their sign on the way to and from work and it ain't there no more. There's a jap performance car specialist on the outskirts of Ash Vale, but I've never used them or heard anything about them. Of, nearly forgot: there's SE Nissan, a Z specialist who have a general recommendation here, they're on the other side of the M25 but they're usually pretty busy. Can anyone else suggest anything?
  18. Many thanks guys! I'll have a look for local hydraulics place and see what they think. Wish I could do the job myself but to be honest, no matter how simple a job it is its gonna be out of my league ;) Long time no see, Vijay :) How's your Z doing these days? Running as well as it looks, I hope! Regarding the part, I'm not 100% sure, really :( Looking at one of the images at that site I think it might be the hose on the left (49717M), since that's a one that connects to the power steering pump. I'm only going off what the MOT tester said though...
  19. Just an update on the above, and even bigger plea for help... :) Since I don't know of any other decent local garages I figured I'd have a laugh and take my Z down to the local dealer's and see what they reckoned. (I thought what the hell, at worst they'll sting me for a new pump despite the car having no running problems) Typically, their approach seems to be to simply replace any component that could conceivably be related to the problem... in my case this means they want to replace the *entire fecking steering rack*, all for what looks like a leak from the hose joining the p.s.pump, and charge me £1025 for the privilege. Has anyone seen such a leak before? Is it more likely to be a leak from that hose, or (as the dealer is saying) a leak from within the rack that is only emerging down at the bottom of the car? Thanks in advance
  20. We look well professional now! Love it :D

Baggins, Regarding wheels and pedal sets, you probably don't need to worry about it narrowing your choices. A mate of mine at work is a real driving game nut too, and has a kick-ass wheel and pedals set that he uses for Grand Prix Legends on the PC. The point of this is that, like a lot of PC stuff these days, they plug in via a USB socket, which is what the PS2 just happens to have too - result: great choice of serious kit for your games :D No doubt the Xbox has a good range of stuff too. Though, now that I think about it, I don't think it has a USB connection... I think it just has its own controller ports. Lemme check the ones we have lying around the office. Update: Yep, looks like it's just proprietary connections on the Xbox, although one of the guys here reckons you might be able to get an adaptor that'll do the trick.

Unless you're a serious fan of one machine or the other it really comes down to what games you want. Technically, the Xbox currently has the edge, but the PS3 will be along before too long and then that will be the best, then a new Xbox will appear and back and forth we go :D In my opinion if you want the best serious racing game around you really cannot beat Gran Turismo, which is currently PS2 exclusive. Project Gotham 2 is good (I've played it only briefly) but it doesn't run at full framerate - personally I feel this is a big negative for a racing game. Take a look at what games you want to play, then get the machine that runs the most ;) HTH
  23. Had the car in for its MOT today and the tester found the source of the leak that has me topping up the HICAS reservoir every couple of months... Looks like a leak down by the power steering pump? Thats what the tester called it anyway, showing me a smallish Nissan box nestled underneath the car while it was up on the ramp. Can the seals around the hoses going into this be replaced? The tester was hinting that the whole pump might need to replaced! (There's never been any problem with the car other than requiring that occasional top-up.) Any help appreciated PJ
  24. Simon, I too recently had the exact same situation as you. As far as timescales go, it'll all be down to the repair centre that eventually does the work. The turnaround from getting the estimate and subsequent insurer's approval was very quick, only a day or two after dropping the car off at the repair centre. Getting parts appears to have gone smoothly in my case although, that said, I've been promised the car back on various dates so far, all of which have been postponed. In fact I'm supposed to be getting a call today but it doesn't look like that's going to happen either. The only time I managed to speak to an engineer, they were waiting on getting the final alignment checked. I can't recall exact dates but I think the car's been away for about a month now, including the xmas & new year break. As long as I'm not left waiting too much longer I'd consider that a good turnaround - it would probably have been quicker if it had been in a quieter period of the year. Hope you get your car back soon, anyway! PJ
  25. Certainly is. I think its in all the GT games actually. It's certainly in GT3. As people will probably already know, the pics above are of the road-version of the R390 GT-1 LeMans car; seriously gorgeous. Unfortunately, it'll only do the quarter mile in 11.9 seconds apparently, so it'd get beaten by that guy with his "Mustang GT-R"... ;)
