'Calling' all engine experienced Zedders.....
Guys, Had it comfirmed today that the head gasket is knackered on my car, hence, losing coolant (not really surprising TBH, I have done every fooking thing else on my car, its the only weakness left). I can still drive the car for 70 miles, stop, bleed the cooling system, top up, and off I go. So, it'll be alright for the summer/weekends for now unless it goes pop in which case, hairy muff...... :) You'd probably be thinking 'why isnt he pi55ed off?', well that my friends is because I look at a negative situation as an opportunity! An opportunity to build a bullet proof engine! :D :smash: The plan is to get the engine out of the car toward the end of September (if it lasts that long! :) ), and then rebuild with the best components I can afford (For now the skys the limit) that will withstand 500bhp all day long......My tubs arnt to that spec but I want the engine capable ready for when the tubs go bang and they get upgraded? Still with me? OK then.....its gonna be a winter project......that reminds me, I must change my avatar to now say....'Project ZX......Summer 2006!' :p What I want is you guys that have had/done major engine work on your zeds, either by yourself or by a garage, to enlighten me as to a specification to be proud of. As I say, 500bhp is the goal, and I have heard that the block is 'supposed' to be good for 600bhp but I want to build a block that is better than that. Some kinda reverse engineering if u like.....the heads also need to be looked at? Is it worth gas flowing them? Cams? Bigger valves? Whats good for a Zed? My NEW gearbox also crunches in 3rd and 4th heavily, thanks Andy :slap: :nono: , so that'll need refurbing too, and I also belive the standard manual gearbox is only good enough for 380bhp? Is that right? I have seen the inside of zed auto box and theres no way I'd touch that but is a manual within an amateurs capabilities? Anyway, enough waffling, this engine building thing is going to be my first attempt so any specs/ideas you guys can give me would be HUGELY appreciated.....All in all, its to be ready for next spring! (Sh1te, it'll take me that long to afford it all!!!!) Thanks in advance..... ;)

Hi from J-Tuner Magazine
Here, Here... Must say Matt, got both copies of JTuner from the Jap meet at Santa pod the other weekend, just about read through them both now and they're pretty good. I did enjoy the last R34 feature, very interesting. Tis a shame to see no Zeds yet but as you say there's time.... From my own point of view, and I am guessing shared by others, I cant help feeling a bit bitter against Jap car mags. I was subscribed to Japenese Performance but a few months ago it ran out and I diddnt bother renewing it. Simply for the reason that I was sick to death of Scoobies and Evo's bwing featured month after month. One scooby to me looks like another so you can imagine how quickly it became boring.... Anyway, thats my 2p worth, great mag, love the tec articles, very enjoyable reading, keep it up and I might subscribe..... Good luck.... Mark. ;)

Cooling system pressure test + block test
Well if this dye trick works out Tim I'll send you some.... :) ;) Roll on tuesday....I'm bored of watching my temperture gauge every drive! If the dye doesnt show anything and neither does the cooling system presure test, the cars coming off the road after JAE and its being stripped down...... Good excuse to get the engine bay painted, steel rods, forged pistons......etc etc etc... :hyper:

Hmmmm!!!!
Ah, well in that case a new fuel filter is going on this weekend..... FYI - filled my car with BP's super unleaded last night, cost £59.97!!!! The most my zed has ever taken!! £60......hmmmm......must have been right empty! :) I've got a dodgy fuel gauge at the mo....
-
Hmmmm!!!!
Guys Just noticed that my fuel filter is the wrong way round!!! :slap: The end that says out is receiving fuel from the tank...... Its been like this for about a year now, will/would it make any difference? Flow rates? Etc.....

Cooling system pressure test + block test
Thanks for those tips mate, I did a block teat ont he coolant last night and it diddnt change colour, so no gases in the coolant, thats for sure.... On tuesday I have some UV Coolant dye coming from canada that you place intot he coolant and then thrash the pants off me car. Then, grab an UV light, turn the lights off, and go finding the snail trail...... I will find out where that waters going if it the last thing I do.... :hyper: Is there anyway I can test the rad cap and thermostat are doing their jobs properly?

Cooling system pressure test + block test
Bugger, bit far that mate, car wouldnt make it without losing some water! :D I have finally found a garage that will let me watch them whilst they do a block test and cooling system pressure test. After this, if they dont find ANYTHING, I'm going to insert food dye into the cooling system to try and trace where its all going?!? I mean, 2 1/2 litres for a 75 mile journey is a lot of water, its gotta be going somewhere..??? :smash:

Cooling system pressure test + block test
Guys cars back on the road but its using water....its not coming through the pipes (No white smoke), not in the oil (no contamination) and its not leaking out the car to the naked eye.....?!?!? Hmmm.....Cars runs sweeeettt too!! But I lost 2.5l going to the pod yesterday and another 3 going home???? (75 miles each way......) Phoned a few garages in Melton today and asked if they can do the tests, they can, but I cant watch?!? Fook that, I have learnt too much to know that I dont trust anyone else with my car so what choice do I have? Does anyone know anyone who can do this for me? If its come to it, I'll buy a cooling system pressure testing kit and block tester......sod it...... Help...... :(
