Bargain Convertable.....
Oh right! Didnt realise that, thought they started with a series 2 :(

STS Rear Mounted Turbo
sounds very impressive! I assume now one has been done its easier to do others so the unit cost should come down? Might see some more "NA's" packing more than their share! I've seen a similar system done on an M5 before, where there simply is no room for the pipework, turbos and manifolds in the engine bay

so ive damaged a BT cable, what now?
Depends on pricing structure but to get a job like that done, although not alot of work, at 3 call outs @ £500 a day thats £1500. Now it looks like someone is trying to pull a fast one on you, basically the cable fault should have been called into BT and then it should be sorted out without any involvement of onsite engineers. One thing to consider is that the guy fixing it may not be a BT employee, however that doesnt mean he doesnt have an office to answer to as if he is contracted out to BT then he will be answering to someone there. In this case it looks like the guy calling you is bogus, possible a neighbour thinking he can get some cash out of you, when in reality its probably been fixed and BT are non the wiser of how it happened. (btw what phone did he call you on, if its a landline youve a very stupid person trying to pull a fast one...)

New owner questions
they are a "sporty" autobox so they can be quite eager to change down. IIRC they have a kickdown switch not a cable. Also when using the term kickdown do you mean kickdown, is it shooting into the lowest possible gear? Like at 50 it would want to go into 2nd if you used kickdown. If its mearly changing down then thats okay. One way to stop it being so "enthusiastic" (and if you have a Jap import) is to use the "Hold mode" on the auto box, there is a little switch to the top right of the auto selector with "power", "normal" and "hold" modes, see this as a winter/normal/sport settings. Hold stops it revving hard ingear and makes it much more docile, also I think the car will set of in 2nd if you use hold. (although once again this is ONLY on Jap imports!)

Oulton Park Novice track Day
You'll be knackered! I find it tiring driving on track. Not to mention the horrific fuel economy for a zed on track lol

Oulton Park Novice track Day
Lol not that i'm lazy or anything, with 210 each way it means theres a hotel involved so it becomes a much more expensive affair when its £60 there and back £60 on track £160 (ish track day) £60 hotel £340 thats before any helmet hire, food, extra costs, oil and the bits that I break on track. Depends, if and when ive bought a house i'll not be saving as much i hope (certainly saving alot more a month than a mortgage and bills would be!) to do some more exotic ones. Quite fancy doing cadwell park at some point which is about 170 from me I think but Oulton is such a nice track and so close. (75 miles from where i live, but 18 from the missus!)

Oulton Park Novice track Day
To be fair bedford is along way, 210 miles for me where as oulton is only 18 miles from my gf's house. But I shall bear it in mind, I MIGHT do another one this year but lots to do on the car and im saving like mad for a house deposit, so short of whoring my self out im a bit skint!

Oulton Park Novice track Day
Very old and tired, hence why so rolypoly! The car has done 102k on as far as I can tell, all original shocks. Certainly no receipts for them in an otherwise flawless history and all have the BMW stamp on them. So im going to replace those soon. Really need new shocks and a crossbrace from the convertible! Its a totally standard car (apart from an induction kit). Recent work has included new front brakes and some new drop links and bushes (all Dealer OEM Parts though) This one is a classic, under hard acceleration (probably top of 2nd) its all reared up like a muscle car as the shocks are so weak! LOL

Oulton Park Novice track Day
It did a few times, its not as tail happy as the 300zx though. Less torque + very expensive tyres means its uber grippy. And the couple of times it gave a wiggle of the hips there was no photographer there! Although the black M3 did spin infront of me - I narowly avoided making them both into "compacts"

Oulton Park Novice track Day

Oulton Park Novice track Day
Last friday i went down to Oulton park to do the morning of a Novice track day in the M3. Since I've only done one trackday in the past (with a sick, automatic 300zx) I thought it best to book on a novice one to let me get the feel of it and it was brilliant. (Mainly because it was quiet and i could have a good run round the track) So I did 4 20 minute sessions, in my group we had a number of things firstly my m3, and another 3.0 M3 (but all stripped out chipped decat etc, more on that later) An aston DB9, couple of 911's and an R8. Along with a couple of caterhams etc and a few other things (mk5 golf gti + R33 GTR springs to mind) Obviously the other M3 and I needed to have a play so we spent all 4 sessions basically going hell for leather and I was quite impressed my standard (heavier/softer but i admit more powerful) evo kept up with Max's M3. It shows me just how much work needs doing on the underside of my car, new shocks+topmounts throughout (at least) and I think im going to get a convertible X brace for underneath and see what its like from there. Car needs a clutch now, well before i do another track day anyway! Anyway, some pictures Max's M3 A good trio A good pair! And a few of mine Was going well Then Broke

how much for a crash damaged evo
Problem is though, im sure you have to declare it when you insure the car so it increases insurance premiums AND if you have to claim im sure they wont give you the full value you for it (not that they do anyway) I went to look at an M3 which was Cat D (didnt know it at the time) put a deposit on it and had it HPI'd when i got home and it was recorded as an insurance write off back in 2003 or somthing, was nearly sick! I did double check with Adrian flux and they told me they couldnt insure me on it, and I did ask what if i just didnt declare it and they told me that it invalidated my insurance... So thats whats put me off!

Only 3000 miles!!

Grey UK TT L305 *** East Kilbride
Spotted you on what i think is the A749, or A725 Near Nerston i cant remember whats what round there! On Thursday Evening around 4:45 ish. Sounded good if smelt a little rich ;) I was in the silver kangoo van going the same way towards EKB :)

looking at this
gives the impression its had a hard life if somone has managed to crack a sump on it! Also, since its been leaking oil, how much has leaked and has it affected engine lubrication at all? It'd have to be very cheap to take that risk!

Sat Nav speed reading....
I always follow satnav as accurate speed reading, as in my M3 the speedo is about bang on, about a needles width out at 70mph and not much further out at 100mph, maybe 99 on the satnav at 100 on the clock. By contrast my van is reading about 110 on the speedo @ 100 on the satnav

Hesitation/power loss
did you have new o2 sensors when you had a rebuild? When i had mine it went through a period of doing things like that. As for the rattling, perhaps a gearbox mounting or somthing difficult to tell!

Happy Birthday to my Daily Drive
Mine is a venture actually, a special edition run out model with aircon (cheapest van with aircon at the time which is one of the main reasons for purchase!) Also the pharmacies have a collection of kangoos and clio vans so boss was keen on renaults... want an astra van next time I think, or a car... but tax implications need working out. This has had two front tyres so far for maintainence (at 38k) and 3 services at the renault dealer. Front pads and discs are about goosed if im honest (stops like a duck on a frozen lake) so they need doing soon. As for running mine does about 43mpg which is all "high speed" motorway work, quite often foot to the board "whatever it will do" for hours at a time. By contrast if you can make your guys do 55-60mph everywhere they do like 60mpg lol, followed my dad when towing for 3 hours (never been as bord!) and it was somthing like 61.4mpg, rediculas!

Happy Birthday to my Daily Drive
lol i can imagine it does... Frenchy has an advantage of being fairly light though, certainly a reasonable turn of speed compared to the oter shite iv had in the past. Another 6 months though and it'll be time for somthing new, no idea what yet.

Happy Birthday to my Daily Drive
Its exactly a year old today bless it, and has covered 39963 miles with me this year. So what delightful craft is my daily do I hear you cry? Well here it is my oh so wonderful Renault Kangoo DCI 70 I have to say despite having covered 40k this year its been remarkably reliable... only needing a new slipring on the steering column for the airbag sensor and the pasanger duplicate on the drivers side window switch is a bit iffy. Not bad for a frenchy!

smoked by a 206gti........
i had the same with a kangoo van (not that there is much power to start with!) 1.5dci 60bhp, blew a boost hose in the outside lane of the motorway and im not kidding it just stopped. 80 to 45 as if i didnt have my foot on the throttle and 45 is all it would do. Was interesting getting it back home and then to glasgow, lots of hills on the M62/M6/M74 lol Hope you get it fixed soon!
