Hi, I had a crack about 4-5 cm, had autoglass out and they said they can only fix chips (they use some sort of resin i think). Cracks need a replacement screen. Also if the crack is near the area around the drivers head it is illegal to drive the car! Barry

Hi, Also if the floppy disk drive light comes on and stays on after boot-up - this means you have floppy disk drive cable plugged in wrong - connector upside down! it can be disabled in the bios so check there too barry

Hi, I run my NA 300 as an everyday car - costs me about £725 (age 29, 4NCB) with keith michaels (broker - see yellow pages) - cheaper than Aplan this year for me... I dont do a lot of milage - 6K a year but I would be wary of expecting 30mpg from the NA. From my experience there seems to be hardly any difference MPG wise with the NA /Turbo. That is from town driving mainly - dont go onto the motorway much and work is very close to me - I am almost a 300ZX hermit! ;) I get poor MPG but then thats the price to pay for owning a nice sports car! Hi, I have a annouying vibration at about 40mph, I have mentioned it before and some people suggested it could be a propshaft imbalance or maybe a gearbox mounting. The car is due a service soon and I am wondering how much it might cost to get it fixed. Anyone else know how much it might be roughly?? Also is it likely to cause any longterm damaged leaving it (considering the cheapskate option too ;) ) Cheers Barry

Hi I am getting around 150 miles from a tank (mixed running - mainly urban and a bit dual carraige way) , how many gallons is the Z tank? I have never worked out my mpg but suspect it is not great... My car has always struck me as doing poor (jap NA auto) mpg, wonder if I should get it seen to? It seems to be running fine apart from that, I have seen other threads that seem to vary on the mpg from about 15 to 24... Any opinions? Cheers Barry

Hi, I dont know how well up you are with VB but there is comm port direct X control in VB as standard, I think it is on the standard VB control panel from memory. Just drag this to your form, then click on the control and change the RS232 settings, baud rate etc. For more in depth info on ithe control do a search at http://search.microsoft.com/us/dev/default.asp use a topic such as "com port control" or "RS232" Its not too bad to program, I have done a few RS232 interfaces with it... Well I would not call myself an expert but i havent spotted any mods, so maybe its just a badge. I will have to get an expert to check the car over at a meet sometime... Hi, I saw the thread about the Version S and i have been meaning to ask what the badge on the back of my jap import NA is, i think it says something like Tommy Maiken (from memory, its hard to tell because it is in silver & in joined up writing i.e. a signature). Is this some sort of different version, perhaps a limited edition? Or has some plonker stuck it on at some point for some reason?? Any ideas, I could take a photo of it, if that helps... Hi, A week or so ago I posted about my windscreen problem, the "unavailability" of the 300ZX screen turned out that Autoglass had not paid thier bill to Nissan and thus the account was on stop - Plonkers!! :p Anyway they phoned me up to say they had the glass and trim. They turned up and explained they did not have the same tint screen - i said no probs and left them to it. Anyway half an hour later the chap told me the glass would not fit - it was 1 inch too short :mad: So what is going on, several people told me on here they had UK glass fit thier jap car! They are going to get another screen to try - has nissan supplied the wrong glass?? or are there various sizes of glass?? Anyone?? Barry

Hi, I just posted a similar message on another thread but this thread is more appropriate: Were am i going wrong with my 160 per tank (jap auto NA) - using super plus (did not spot any difference when running a few tanks of optimax...) i use 5 days a week to work 10miles - low speeds 10-50mph and 3 trips of about 20miles - pushing it resonably hard - milton keynes has a lot of roundabouts, so keeping a reasonable speed then slowing down again, over and over again... Is it likely i have something wrong with the car?? What could it be, it seems a good runner, i have a little problem sometimes with the idling varying slightly but usually settles down to 750 ish after a short while... I probably have a gear box mounting on the way out because at 40mph i get some vibrations... These minor probs are unlikely to cause a problem? Do i need it tuning perhaps?? Any thoughts anyone? I have an NA auto and i get about 160ish miles from the tank, this consists of driving low speeds to work (urban area) about 8 miles every day and 3 hard blasts of about 21 miles a week on dual carriage/country roads. That works out at about: 55litre tank = 12 gallons, 13.3 miles to the gallon. Is this right???? Seems low to me for an NA auto? Or am i very heavy footed on the those 2 blasts - (usually redlining it in each gear)?? Barry

Hi, A few weeks back you might remember me asking for advice on getting my cracked windscreen reaplaced. Autoglass told me today that Nissan said the windscreen trim that needs to be replaced with the screen is now unavailable (what ever that means) - which means i cant have my windscreen replaced at the mo! Its sounds very strange but the chap at autoglass said it has happened before to other models like a volvo t70 - could not do repairs to them for 2-3 months. Anyway chap is ment to be talking to Nissan to find out what is going on! Lucky the crack is not in the danger area - so i can still drive the car.... So i dont know if he has the wrong end of the stick or nissan is talking bollox but watch out in case it is true - dont damage your windscreen!! You have been warned ;) Barry

Well i have got it booked for thursday as it has to be a day job for some reason - perhaps ZX glass is difficult to do by night? (pehaps the tint makes it difficult to see it at night :D ) And i was told it would be blue tint (i did not ask...), i dont care as long as it goes in... Just hope the crack does not get any bigger! or i wont need to take the targa roof panels out :) Barry

MK is cheaper than surrey?? That surprises me - MK is pretty expensive to live and buy houses compared to most areas... Renting is big business in MK, hence the prices are quite expensive. I moved to MK about 6-7 years ago and it cost me £320 a month then for a decent one bed maisonete thingy! There are absolutely thousands of properties to rent so you should be spoiled for choice - just depends what your budget is. All depends what area you are working in? Barry

Cheers for the googles idea but i dont think i could afford all the hair gel as an on going cost! :) Will the UK screen be ok in my car? Will it have the tint across the top to stop that early morning dazzle? (its deadly in milton keynes for some reason..) I am surprised about the no increase in premium - usually insurance companies suck you dry... Barry
