IT help please
Angus is right. Regardless of whether it has an MBR or not. XP should see it and assign a drive letter. If it does not, then assign one via the Disk Manager Snap In. TBH, it will prob be a bit more involved than that and you will need to image that backup onto a new drive for your laptop, using something like Ghost. If you need more help, feel free to PM me with your number and I'll talk you through it. Phil.

Happy Birthday PhilD
Mac, Indeed I am! Thanks very much for the Birthday congrats...feeling every one of my 34 years! As for my hobbies, are you telling me you have never "stabbed the cat"??? If not, try the following when on your own: 1. Place yourself in front of a full length mirror, preferably in front of a chair. 2. Sit in chair. 3. Imagine you have a lovely cat purring contentedly (sic) on your lap. 4. Look down lovingly as said cat whilst pretending to hold a large kitchen knife in your hand. 5. Proceed to make stabbing motions with knife hand towards cat. 6. Look into mirror whilst doing the above. What does it look like you are doing??? ( :xxx: )

NZR - Serious PC Problem.....
Dave, It appears you have replaced the GINA with a non-standard one. If this were XP or 2k there might be a chance of recovering. I have a version of Vista running, but do not know enough about it to start recovering shite-d installs. i'll see what I can find. Phil.

PC Help
Sounds to me like the attachment has got corrupted in some way or it is confusing the three letter file extension with Winamp. this can happen when an attachment comes through with a DAT extension. Outlook/Exchange has a habit of doing that sometimes when it get's a mail from a non-Exchange server. I'd suggest saving the file to you C Drive and seeing what three letter extension the file has. HTH Phil

NZR: PC System builders help required - urgently
Danny, It appears to be the case! If you check page 5-19 of your Motherboard Manual, it show you how to enable RAID on your SATA controller. You will need to have RAID disabled to allow the controller to see these drives as stand alone. Incase the manual is not to hand: 1. Boot the system and enter the BIOS Setup Utility (this is the Motherboard BIOS, not the RAID Controller BIOS) 2. Go to Advanced>Onboard Devices Configuration and make sure the Onboard Promise Controller Item is Enabled. 3. Set the Operationg mode to anything other than RAID. 4. Save changes and exit setup. This should allow the PC to boot and see the two drives as separate entities. You will not need to enter the BIOS of the RAID controller as you do not wish to setup a RAID array. Give me a bell if you need a hand (07768 065781). Phil.

NZR: PC System builders help required - urgently
IIRC, some Motherboards have a BIOS setting for the SATA contoller to be in RAID or Non-RAID mode. A recent bunch of Dell Workstations I built an image for where just like that. I am downloading the manual for the MB in question to take a look at it (the ASUS site is just sooooo slow!) and will report back when I know more. If you wish to contact me in the meantime, please feel free. Phil.

N. 300z / T. Supra / M. GTO
For what it is worth, I have owned both a Supra and 300ZX (still got that one). IMHO, the Supra (98VVTI TT) was a very well put together car. It had great potential and in my 6 months of ownership was very reliable. My main reason for selling was it just did not move me in the same way as the 300 did. I would look at the Supra and 300 side by side and always reach for the 300ZX keys when I wanted to feel good! That probably reveals more about my curious personality than the actual cars, but hey-ho! I would say that the Supra appears to be much more reliable because the vast majority of them are M reg (94-5) and above. The vast majority of 300ZXs are K reg (92) and below. That would explain why so many Zs appear to require "regular" maintenance. That said, they do need TLC as would any car that is over 10 years old. I'm sure there will be a rash of Supra problems in the next year or so when they reach the stately age of most Zs! HTH Phil.

Thick Question
Indeed they do! The Petrol Pump Icon should glow orange when very very low....it's none to bright on mine, TBH, so it might be a job to see in daylight. Phil

Win XP SP2, Perl and 401.3 Unauthorized
Gio, We know this already but here states: "Just to mention for the record: the reason to switch from the ActiveState Perl to the Cygwin Perl was that the Active's "fork" stoped working after I installed the SP2 for XP." Phil.

NZR: PC problems.
Guys, I had a quick gander at the PC and it appears that the dialler has been removed. The reason it will disconnect the Broadband connection is that if you use a ADSL Modem instead of a router, the ADSL connection does act like a dial up connection and can be terminated like a normal dial up connection. Any dialler would first drop all exisiting connections before it initiated its own call. (That reads very badly, and I apologise for it - too many "connections"!) Leigh did have the MSBLASTER virus as his RPC Service was set to "Restart the machine" if the service failed. Phil.

Open Water - don't waste your time
Agreed! I love the sequence where the last Deputy is shot. Exruciating in the extreme, as is most of the second half. Would love to see Rod Zombies original cut...

HELP!!...computer probs
I suggest that you stop your Messenger Service, and disable the service. You will have no use for it. Got to the Start Menu, Select Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. Scroll down the list until you see the messenger service. Right button on the service and select properties. Select disbled from the drop down list and also click on "stop" whilst you are there. I'm worried that your "firewall" is not blocking these messages.

Well done that Officer!
Should this also read "The Krays were wonderful people, they only murdered their own!" Same sort of logic, it's ok to break the law at certain times. As for losing my license, if that is the punishment, then yes. "If you can't do the time, don't do the crime!" I recently got 3 points for 45 in a 30 by a Front Facing camera. Had the Mrs taken me to the station on her bike, I'd be ok but I drove. Took advice and was told the camera is legal. End of story, pay my fine and take my points.
