Fitted this today
Ok so i can't use the Z as much if hardly with its problem,so sunny day,got the car out, decided to finaly fit the 3 Pod pillar and clocks, not too bad a job, just tickled along all afternoon, one thing i did find while re siteing the boost clock from its temp area was that the pipe to it in area i could not see had virtually bent over so as not to allow much pressur to the clock, which would explain why the needle seemed to occilate and jump a small fraction,i think it was giving me a crap reading while i was setting up me EVC5,which would explain a few things like detting on full boost(i now think the EVC was to high)and my subsequent possible knackerd valve symptoms, anyway ran new pipes and joiners, ran the pipe to clock as straight as possible and then took the Z out(bit naughty but the sun was well out:eek: )it ran verywell considering, and the boost gauge was now well responsive, live n learn as they say, here's a couple of pics of them all done:D

About to throw the towel in!!!!
Well the thread on there site has well over 10,000 views and 100s of post so it would, for those wanting more info to join the site and check it out,i have been following it for some months now, amazing stuff to say the least, this is a snippit, Why is Optimax so variable? Age, 'Optimax' has a 'tank life' it degrades quite rapidly as the super hot benzene 'loses' it volitility after just 40days in the tank [the one in your car or the one in the ground at you petrol station. From this day, if you use it, then ask the attendent when the last delivery of it was, if he can't answer then get the Manager, I've started doing this lately and they are blissfully unaware of the time thing so answer with a flourish of paperwork and a quizzical look. My rule is simple, look at the docket, it says size of tank 10k ltrs, the discharged amount AT LEAST 90% is needed to keep it at the 97/98 ron, the stuff in the tanker will be 98. this started from the simple question posed me 'What RON is Optimax' the answer is......enhanced 95ron...this is to avoid prosecution by the Customs and Excise if they perform one of their checks. It also scrubs the tank, and this may well be what fooked Adis' cats, his explanation of events fits the dirty tank scenario, apparently the smallest tank on the forecourt is selected [this bit also explains why it is not available nationally] It is cleaned and sealed with an inert gas awaiting its new load, the inert gas does escape and if the gas is not present the new surface scales into rust, the oxide is bad for the SH Benzene and makes it behave oddly during burning, there is a precipitate (solid) formed and this is what I think got Adis cat in trouble, the heating of the solid means that it can perforate the matrix of the cat blowing a hole clean thu it in a few hudred miles. Adis problem too has vexed me but now I see a good reason for the odd occurence. Any input? Anyone? > Adi is a member of the LSOC who has had a something odd occur to his 1JZ engine and cat. (from the LSOC) The thread is titled "Optimax, the cause of unexspected big bills" and a thread titled "Octane Booster" is truly huge, all about Optimax etc;)

About to throw the towel in!!!!
mmmmmmmm,Optimax!,when i contacted a mate who works at Nissan, was a engineer, now service manager, when i told him what had happend to my Z,first thing he asked was "have you been running it on Optimax all the time"apparently it goes off after a period of time and can cause major problems, allso just to add there has been a huge debate on the GT-R Register bulletin boards for some time, one thing that has emerged is that the Optimax in this country is not the same as the Optimax sold in rest of Europe etc! Some people believe it can cause valves to burn out etc:eek: Who knows for sure!, but as i say theres big debates going on about this. Glad to hear your Zs now ok

nzr - scratches in plastic
This is what you need vijay, the dogs mate, you can get it from most motor factors like Browns or Partco or Bodyshop factors, just to prove it works, got a nasty scratch across me new HKS EVC display screen(clear plastic)when it was put in,treated it with Finesse-it and it now looks as good as new, have used it for years on all types of surfaces, superb for paint scratches too,had a nasty set of sratches on my rear wing ,so today spent 10 mins on it with the stuff and now it looks like new with a glass like sheen reflection,it costs around £13 a Litre bottle will last you for years!;)

well thats fooked it?
Yes JonJon it is a little smokey on the same side outa zorst as the piston/valve with the trouble, but clears when not on tickover, allso when bonnet up you can if you blip accelerator hear a slight clicky metalic sound above the poorly side of engine, must be a valve?then as revs come up it goes away, dissapears completely, and i have no discernable loss in power when normal driving!;)
-
well thats fooked it?
Thanks lads,Paul i agree may just be top end,but to be honest i think if i just get that done sooner rather than later bottom end will not last to long, the engine sounds too loose and in genral ratley/noisy when ticking over prior to this happening, there is allso a salvage breakers near me with 6 engines on the shelf, will ring em just to see what they want for a low miler one:eek:

well thats fooked it?
Yep could do with some luck, but at the end of the day it can be sorted and there are worse off than me latley, especially those fighting abroad, and a mates 29yr wife has had a heart attack couple weeks back, puts things into perspective to say the least,so i am quite chilled out over it really:cool:
