To Mod or Not to Mod...is that the Q. ?

Am I right in thinking that there are basically 2 camps here - those that want to mod the car as much as they can afford to get the most out of it, and those that think the car as stock is hardly worth tinkering with because it took so much development that any 'tinkering/modding' will probably lead to problems/changes which you wouldn't suspect/envisage/want ?

MY standpoint is probably somewhere in the middle of these exteme views.

I meant manuals which are not other 300's, but as you mention 300's I've heard as many saying auto's are quicker than manuals as vice versa, and many manual gurus probably underestimate the auto's capabilities.

TO SOLVE THIS LONG TIME QUESTION, get a manual and an auto and race them side by side same mods ect.Result i believe its been done before.

And of course another very serious question is.

How many manual 300's have you seen converted to Autos lmao. Answer?

How many Autos are converted to Manauls?

Autos are heavier cars , have a far larger power loss through the drivetrain and well miss one pedal biggrin.gif

Each car has its advantages but having been around the nurburgring in an auto and a manual i know which one id choose every single time. same scenario having been stuck doing 20mph on the m25 in both i know which one id choose everytime again, (and its not the auto) biggrin.gif

i know that but i cant understand what relevance it has to anything i said, if you could kindly point that out to me so i could understand ?

biggrin.gif From that very thread tim biggrin.gif

But what I like now is that I can beat most of the cars on the highway. Something I couldnt do before because AUTOs die after 100-120 mph. Whereas MANUALS get into the game

Eat it biggrin.gif

Take heed!!!!

Yeah but from what I saw at Trax you manual guys need to learn how to use the gearbox! ROFL biggrin.gif

More people fluffed launches and screwed up their times due to bad shifting, lunched clutches and missing the gears altogether it was comical. wink.gif

But again ? you havent answered the question? Not trying to start anything but you post and then cant quantify what your saying? confusing to say the least?

And i dont own a metro? so whats that mean , why did you think it was me ?

and yes my car is of the road again, sigh but what does that have to do with guys at trax , crunching gearboxes? and what does it have to do with manual/auto gearboxes?

LMAO not just slower but more expensive aswell lol.

When I said "You guys..." technically that was aimed at ALL manwell drivers.

You say a heap of power is lost in the drivetrain on an auto but the auto does all the work for you.

Noticed that quite a few of the guys at Trax in Cossies, GTi-R's etc. were not only having trouble getting the power down cleanly but were also so hyped up they were fluffing the gearchanges coming off the line.

I also noticed that quite a few of the manual drivers on here have said "I missed second or third and he got so many car lengths up on me..." so hence the conclusion that while you manual boys are missing gears, crunching and slipping clutches the auto boys will kick yer ass everytime!!! LMFAO biggrin.gif

I post this with humour on my conscience...that's a big hint!!! ROFL biggrin.gif

KEEP IT SIDEWAYS;).

in an attempt to get this thread back on track, i agree with john, in that these cars there to be driven to their performance, if i want to potter around then i will buy a escort or something. when i want to have fun then the zed comes out! easy as that really, and if you want more power then these cars allow you to do it with ease, its just a case of how far your pocket can afford to go!

When did this thread go "Off Topic" then Steve I missed that??? biggrin.gif

Auto to manual perversion is modding no?

We're just having a light hearted discussion about the ins and outs, pluses and minuses of carrying out that perversion on a Z! wink.gif

Thankyou in advance, don't mention it! ROFL biggrin.gif

autos are ok if you drive with slippers on and a pipe in your gob, manuals are for real drivers who try and actually drive the car and not be a passenger with a steering wheel. tongue.gif

thought i would fuel the fire a bit!! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

obviously no offence to you auto guys, but i couldnt resist. tongue.gif

Why are all expensive high powered sports cars manuals?

So the main dealers can charge you thousands to replace a lunched crotch! biggrin.gif wink.gif

Autos are more reliable you see. biggrin.gif

I added a Razo shifter to mine which clawed back about 40 hp.

Just incase anyone accuses me of talking about non-moddedness! biggrin.gif

I'll try to back up Steves(wild turkey) attempt to get this back on track.

For me, I like fast GT's(as in Grand Tourers), before the 300ZX I had a 635csi auto then a XJS V12 auto.

I considered the Merc 500SEC auto and 928S4 auto before getting the Z.

I test drove a Z auto and was hooked. biggrin.gif

If I wanted a manual I would have got one.

Autos suit the type of driving I like to do as I live in London and drive alot to Brighton.

Hell I love autos so much I just bought an auto VW Golf!!
