To make those peeps who are selling their Zed feel a little less bad I thought i would start a thread on Zed design flaws.

The thing that most winds me up about the Zed is that you cant put anything that looks valuable - eg a laptop bag in the boot as its quite easy to see through the front windscreen!

Anyone got any others?

No room to shag. But you can take of the t-tops stand on the seats and doggy though, but then its not very practical.

I actually think that for a car concieved at the end of he 1980s and introduced here (virtually) in 1990, Nissan got the Z32 pretty much spot on.

I have driven newer, more expensive sporting pedigree (including the 350z) back to back with a 300zx, all of which shows just how cleverly concieved the Z32 was.

My daily driver is a 2 year old Merc SLK350 which is just as quick as my ZX (possibly quicker 0-60), it has covered less than 30k miles and with the sports suspension pack, handles very well. But driving a 17 year old, 91k mile 300zx with most of the original components still in situ straight afterwards is no let down. Surely a testament to how good the Z32 was/is?

stupid seat belts on the doors no good for child seats/booster seats pulls it out the car when door opened .

brakes that want to allways creak no matter how much attention they recieve in copper slip and grease....centre console arm rest that always ends up cracked....and what a place to put a radiator top up bottle, theres just no room to get your fingers in to open and close the top....

haha!! ive thaught about it in the Z.

S13 was class as pasanger seat went all the way back :D

on a serious note, only crap things really is the tweed seats, but leather is easy to replace, and must say looks 1000 times nicer!

steering column could do with alteration, only becasue i want to hide my turbo timer wires there!

brakes are too small/crap for the mamouth weight of the Z! lol :D

"Surely a testament to how good the Z32 was/is?"

Very true but that is why every other of the thousand threads is about how good he Zed is! THIS one is about the design flaws - like why make it so hard to work on the turbos?

Dont discount the Z32 so quickly there! If it's a 2+2 you could lay the rear seats flat! and use the boot as well as the rear seating area! Still not much room to move though!

And the S13 does have quite a good boot space. Managed to get the entire Z interior seats in there with space for a passenger even tho there was a rear brace bar in the way!

i seem to remember something in the 300zx companion book about the design looks wise, coming 1st and everything else had to be compromised, like they ditched 4x4 as would have upset the low slung lines of the bonnet. With all the technology they crammed into it for a full production car i think they did pretty well. there was bound to be problems with that engine bay with heat and reliability, it has its niggles but i think it was a very brave car to produce and i'm glad they did cos i love it. niggles aside

I know - but in my opinion I don't think there were any design flaws at the time. Such problems as working on the turbos will only materialize many years and thousands of miles later. Way after several of the cars have reached the end of their economic lives. In the manufacturers' eyes that is.

It's a Nissan afterall - therefore very reliable. So why would Nissan, or any other manufacturer for that matter, care about the maintenance of a car 15 years and 150k miles plus in the future. Look at any other 15 year old junior supercar and tell me they were any better designed than a 300zx;)

Richard:D

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
