For information:

I dont know if anyone has tried this on a Z but it should now be possible with the technology out there, I was reading an interesting thread, see link.

Someone has put a 6 cyl Twin Tub Maserati on LPG, multipoint system. Just thought some people may be interested, obviously would not recommendgoing to just any LPG converter for such work!

its been mooted a few times on here but for my money its gonna be mare-ish if you dont live in / near a built up area like london, brum etc as there are sod all LPG pumps around the rest of the UK.....a guy on BBC news just a week or so ago said lots of LPG customers sold up their motors in the west country because of supply issues

Im in the midlands and runing LPG on my daily driver - Lexus, plenty of availability here. But I guess everyone is not so lucky.

You can run either lpg or fuel with the switch of a button, friend of mine had two tanks one for lpg the other unleaded he was running it on a x5 i think.....

Friend of mine converted his Lexus Soarer, works very well apparently.

I got my mk1 gs300 sport converted 2 yrs ago and you can not tell the difference at all but its best to have a sound car to start with, and a top end conversion, im holding on to this car now. I was just wondered if anyone has gone for a Z conversion yet due to the ever increasing running costs, maybe someone who uses their car as a daily driver would benefit.

Since LPG is 114 ron fuel - you should get a hefty performance increase if you have a top quality set up.

I'm starting to think about going down the lpg route with mine. I drive past an lpg station every day on the way to work and i do 70 miles a day so i could pretty much make the money back in a year.

but the timing map for lpg has got to be super retarded as it has a slower burn rate so it cancels the octain gain out

Also remember.... (and everyone forgets this) Your consumption of LPG is about 40% more than that on petrol. So although its half the price... you need almost half as much again to do the same miles....

Its certainly worth considering since I dont think many people do big milages in their 300zx's so the advantages suddenly take alot longer to come in order to pay of the setup cost..

Ive been in a few cars that ran on LPG, and they performed so much better on normal petrol, the worst for it was actually a vokswagon sharon, the owner had to put it on petrol if he wanted to overtake... quite funny!

I've also heard of recent times that it contributes to premature head gasket failiur as well!

so hang on a minute, if it uses 40% more and costs 50% less then thats a 10% improvement????

Is it worth it then?

Haven't heard that it uses 40% more:confused:

You can't get a sports car and want to convert it to run LPG, it's a bit like pouring chocolate all over lettice. Not as bad as the idiot who wanted to convert his Z to a diesel though! LOL ;)

I couldn't live with this on the side of my Z...

if your gonna do it be prepared for head gasket problems, we do loads of head gasket kits at work on tight gits who run big Jags and its all down to lpg conversions, dont ask me how it makes the head gasket go but compared to normal petrol runners we aint changed 1 yet that runs on unleaded only and i've been wrking on jags and astons for 6 years......

you actualy use between 10 and 15% more if your car is set up correctly, in the middle of installing lpg system on my z at the moment.

no thats a myth Chris...ive got lpg on this fella and the comsuption is the same..the down fall is there is some loss on low down power so you find your foot getting planted a little more but high up in the rpm range the power is the same

My Vectra runs on LPG and it is definitely saving me money. Petrol is 1.17p per litre and LPG is 50p, so it's less than 1/2 price, whatever the consumption. It doesn't shoot up in price when a nodding donkey breaks in Texas either, like petrol does.

Not long before the duty on LPG will go up too no doubt

yep just like when oil burners consisted of a transit or a bedford cf van..then 75% of cars go oil and hey fvkin presto oil becomes more expensive than petrol:rant::rant::headvswal

Hi.

What system are you running? I want to do mine, but get a load of conflicting advice, my main lpg experience was an early multipoint 535, but the vans at my old work were just smoother on gas....not less powerful.

I would like similar on my zed, but not if its going to be a long long payback.:nono:

think im going for a vogas system its a bit more expensive but it can use gas and petrol ast the same time to give back the slight loss in power

I thought the same back in 1999, but it's only gone up from 36p/l to 50p/l in 9 years.

Oh there's time yet trust me ;)

I've gotta agree with Andy, if more people start using it, then the price WILL go up and the government will take plenty of tax out of it.

Diesel was miles cheaper than petrol, now look at it, everyone has a diesel car and its not far off 20p more than petrol!

All the info you need on LPG conversions! They even list the 300zx too but you will need to contact them for a price. Also plenty of info on when the goverment has to inform you of a major price increase and an LPG outlets search section.
