Now before I get slated here...........................................

Seriously, how hard would this be?

does anyone know if there is a particular engine that would be easiest to do this with?

For example does anyone know if the gearbox would have to be changed or is there an engine out there that could work with most of the running gear of the Zed?

The reason I ask is that obviously the fuel economy of a zed is not great, but if all you are after is looks (and what better car to look great in?) why not?

The idea would be to use the car purely as an advert for a company - all logo'd up and driving around towns for people to see. Business wise the fuel economy of the Zed wouldn't add up, but if a diesel engine could be dropped into it relatively inexpensively what would the options be.

I'm not after some super-duper Twin Turbo diesel engine or anything, but something like a primera or avensis engine.

So ideas anyone?

My opinion on this stupid idea

I think the first thread was posting whoring myself. Diesel in a Zed? deffo just looking for extra post counts as it can't be serious!

BTW, that fat bloke, that's the world's fattest man. Manuel Uribe, who weighed a wopping 57 stone!

Bit like putting a diesel engine in a Z!

Useless bit of info for the day.

I watched an episode of Pimp my ride the other day. It was a special "green fuels" episode!

They rebuilt a 1965 Chevvy Impala and fitted it with a 6.6litre diesel engine and had it turbo charged and tuned to run on bio-diesel.

They then sent it down the drag strip next to a Lambo Gallardo and it clearly won the race.

Apparently this engine was pushing out 800bhp and 1400 ftlb torque!!! :wack: Personally I doubt those figures but there is no denying it hammered the Lambo.

Now I hate diesels as much as the next guy but I would quite happily drive one if it had that sort of torque...

The new diesel beemers go like fook as well. Thing is in this case its not going to be a good diesel is it?! its going to be a heap from some sh*t car.

I suppose that sums it up!

The engine that went in that Impala must have cost an absolute mint.

Plus it only did 25 mpg! pretty sh1t for a diesel...

Trying to make a stupid thread funny....probably failing though!

Not at all......

......made me laugh! Cheers Si

And whilst I do understand the seriousness of the original question, I would not do it. Just go down the LPG conversion road if you want to save £££'s on fuel whilst driving your advert-car around. Much easier - plus you will still have the fast (petrol) option available at the flick of a switch. (And if it is an "approved" conversion you can be congestion exempt too  )

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Hi,

One of my neighbours has a VW EOS convertible with a hard top folding roof. Looks ok, but as it's a diesel it sounds like a tin of nails though!....Who would want to drive a convertible with a rough old diesel engine?

At least when I take my targas out, I get to hear a nice V6 petrol engine!

Cheerz,

Jez

cau96176 would by the sounds of things  .........oh and this has to be the most ridiculous thread ever

agreed :smash:

I can understand the reasoning, but the logic leans toward "Fur coat and no knickers"!

However, I drive an oil burner now as a daily runner, and the modern unit under the bonnet 'can', ;-) ,be chipped to give far more BHP than its equivalent petrol counterpart. It has bags of torque and the six speed box helps it to sound smother than the z at higher speeds and i'm more comfortable driving that at higher speeds on the Autobahn, ;-), than the Z....

Based on the VW EOS example, for performance, i'd rather a TDi than a GTi unit anyday...
