Not sure how anyone else feels on this subject but my Zed is for social and pleasure use. I don't need it for comuting as i use the Tube. With all the environmental issues going on at the moment and stupid buzzwords like CARBON FOOTPRINT being thrown around i was thinking about my 18MPG (or less ;) ) of fuel im burning for no real reason other than selfish pleasure.

As i said i don't comute in the Z but who does?? FOr those that do the journey could be made in a less fuel thirsty car? Do you feel bad about it??

Just to let you know where i stand on this, i don't feel guilty about driving my fuel guzzling Z for fun at all. I love it, is that selfish??

dont feel guilty mate, its the media playing to the polititians tunes yet again  carbon footprint what a load of shite for about a hundred reasons and aint got the time now

i use it daily, commute in, go to the shops in it, travel cross country in it.

Do i feel guilty NO

Im sorry but i dont fly off to Benidorm every year seeking pleasure, my zed in its life time will never create as much crap as a plane flying once over to the Costas.

I also am sick of hearing aout climate change, carbon footprint blah blah blah if they are all so bothered cut the amount of air flights instead of penalising me for having one pleasure in life after all my hard graft!

you said it yourself...

'stupid buzzwords'

The whole thing is *****cks, just a (very successful) made up money making scheme for governments, corporations, and the whole new breed of 'carbon offsetters' who are all lining their pockets from the guilt they place on others, laughing all the way to the bank they are :/

Nope, I don't feel guilty at all. Purely because of the fact that mine is used as a weekend enjoyment tool as opposed to gas guzzling daily transport and I never would use it as daily transport, just a total waste of fuel/money.

It’s cheaper for me to have a second fuel efficient car and run it every day as well as having the Z for weekends as it would be having the Z as a daily driver.

Plus, the roads are so shite in this country and keep having flashbacks as whether or not it's just worth having at all. I don't enjoy driving it as much as I could do as the roads are in such a poor state and totally over crowded.

zero guilt....instead of buying a new pirus etc...i recycled an 18 year old car :)

ive got 3 cars and 2 trucks and its my way of "saving the planet" because at any one time there is only 3 using the road network :D

Bit of a tin of worms this i know but i'm surprised in a way, at the similarity of the comments.

Not sure why this came up but was thinking about it as i couldn't get to sleep (plus didn't want to, as there were drunk people wondering past my car untill about 12 and i was sat with my finger on my gas bb pistol ready for anyone that even took a double take at it :D )

Had A black, then very dark grey Granada cosworth, then a silver Scorpio cosworth and I was told I should get a greener car.

So I saw my zx advertised and bought it - It's Green !

Hi,

As stated above most of the pollution is created when a new car is built, so therefore driving a 17 year old car that is in a good state of repair is a very sensible thing to do!

Can't believe that all these new economical diesel cars are good for the enviroment as a few miles down the road they start chucking out loads of black soot and creating diesel slicks!

Then there is the noise pollution aspect of a rattly old diesel motor idling in traffic, whereas a 300ZX engine is actually enhancing the enviroment around it!:D

all of this global warming/carbon emissions stuff is nonsense, mostly to stifle emerging industrial nations and like most shit we hear/read, create fear.

I stuck a post up like this a while back after I watched 'an inconvenient truth' (carbon footprint, co2 this that and the other. Soon after I watched the other documentary which basically pulled it to bits and showed how co2 FOLLOWS temperature rise (as opposed to our emissions causing it), it then told how one volcanoe would chuck out more Co2 emissions in a day than all our cars, how the COWS (!) cause more Co2 by farting, and most of all how the ocean gives off more Co2!! The whole thing was a big eye opener. I was skeptical to begin with but the more you look at it the more it makes sense. I don't think we should be ransacking natural resources (mazda has a hydrogen rotary engine in testing at the moment :) ), and we need to look after the planet and what lives in it but the Co2 thing seems way off the mark from what I can see.

I also think the disposable nature of modern cars is a lot worse than us driving around in 3ltr sports cars; which are half the capacity of the average car in USA and many other places! My new Zed is my daily drive as its economical compared to my Rx7, and much the same as my old 5 series bmw, also fortunately I don't have to drive to work 2-3 days a week.

all this global warming stuff gets on my goat. I remember the exact time it all fired off was summer 04 when Blair said it was going to the top of his agenda and some global conference. It sounded wierd at the time as green issues had been tainted with the hippie brush since the days of the rainbow warrior etc in the 90's. Since that moment it has escalated into every other news story and now advert (showing the new power of the "Green" pound) has been on global warming however no further solid evidence has come out supporting that it is man-made. I think it is one of these government scare tactics, like Micheal Moore was saying about Al-Qaida in his film, to keep the populus down.

as far as green issues with motoring and being guilty about driving a zed 2 of my stongest thoughts about this are;

1. the "carbon footprint" of the energy and raw materials used to build a new car will always be massive compared the CO2 expelled from the exhaust at any point of the cars lifetime. The amount of energy required to forge a solid iron engine block is astronomical as is gearboxes and drive shafts etc. that means recycling old cars is always preferable to buying a new Prius. Also the prius has 2 engines so double the energy required and also think about where all those heavy metals and chemicals needed from the battery come from and how they are processed!!

2. The other point is a very sore one for me and that is the monstrosity of poncy 4x4's!!! we have some pay-off from our low mpg/ high CO2 emissions and that is performance and speed. The 4x4 has the same fuel economy and it is just for show as well as being highly dangerous and space blocking things. I hate 'em! They get the same road courtesy from me a Prius drivers, ie they dont get let out at junctions (unless driven by a hot women!). Just my contribution to the urban revolution!!!

I could go on all day about the farce that is "global warming" and feel i have good back up as i have a science based engineering degree which included sections on environmental engineering (thankfully before all this kicked off becuase i bet the syllabus is hell now!) and work in the oil and gas industry so i have a feel for the true scientiffic impact of theese things, something i feel the newspapers and the guy on street complaining about it dont have. my work doesnt make me biased in anyway becuase i am my own man with my own opinions.

After I saw the great global warming swindle it was a real eye opener!

It had a range of experts from all corners of the globe, all very highly qualified in their chosen field denouncing global warming theories!

that documentry was proven to be incorrectly researched and the producer and channel 4 were threatened to be taken to court.

But it doesnt really matter on the exact content of the program as man-made global warming cant really be proved either way, but it was good to have a program that opened peoples eyes that there was another side to the story other than the propaganda (and that is exactly what it is with out any scientific backing) we are getting bombarded by from coporations, the press and government everyday.

The thing is I can threaten to take anyone to court that doesn't prove anything!

If scientists get a grant to research a theory and sit down long enough they will find evidence to support that!

We're saving the environment by buying these old classics and recycling them...sort of.... Carbon footprint my ar5e.... every 800 years or so we get this warming and cooling effect on the planet. The fact is that as Carbon increases the temperature goes down and vice versa. Scientist who speak out against global warming get slatted, their funding cut or are branded as being in the pockets of the Oil companies by their peers. Yet, flip the coin over, aren't the government funded scientists who are looking into global warming in the pockets of said governments.

There was a program on several months ago about this called "The Great Global Warming Swindle" A dozen or so scientists said it was a natural cycle. The following day after their research grants where cut, they uturned.... It's all politcal BS and propeganda to take our minds of all the other crap that seems to be going on...iraq, russian spy murders, flesh eating bugs (remember that), war on terror, do I need to go on.....

Where they? I didn't hear that and I work for CH 4. Only that the scientists did a uturn and it was all misquote this and misquote that and taken out of context. There research has been going on for 15 or so years. The scientists had their funding cut and livelyhoods threatened so the bowed to political pressures.

Come on we are doing the economies of the developed west a great favour.

Look at it this way, first we produced raw materials, but then we ran out and what we had left, well you could get it cheaper elsewhere.

So then we made things, but after a while you could get it cheaper elsewhere (mainly in China, even the hi tech stuff that the politicians reckoned the rest of the world wouldn't be able to do!!!)

So then we all sat around and just sold everything to each other on the phone, the stuff everybody else either dug up or made elsewhere, until somebody thought it would be a good idea if that was done elsewhere too as it would probably be cheaper (India looked good  ).

So now the politicians need to think up something else that we can do over here, otherwise people might get a bit miffed with them when they all lose their jobs and get bored with ebay

A ha, if we take a natural cycle like the planet warming and cooling and say it's a crisis (after all the plebs don't remember what we ripped them off with 2 years ago, so they won't spot this ;) ) it will mean that people buy less stuff from the places that make things (cause those countries are adding to the crisis) and that will mean their economies won't grow so quick!!!

And if we develop our own RENEWABLE energy sources that means not so much money will go to the places that dig stuff up as well, meaning they won't grow so quickly, leaving us still top of the pile as the people who make this new RENEWABLE thing and save the planet ........ :hyper:

So the moral of the story is that by driving the Z you do your little bit to help maintain the "crisis", ensuring that we stay top of the worlds economic tree and in the process keep all the other buggers down there by the roots

and lets be honest how much crap comes out of the back of peasant wagons!!

dont feel guilty mate, its the media playing to the polititians tunes yet again  carbon footprint what a load of shite for about a hundred reasons and aint got the time now

Spot on, and a damm good way to raise taxes, and attempt to make people feel guilty for enjoying living. Bit like smoking and drinking that are now socially unacceptable. Soon you won't be able to fart in public.

I think there's truth in the global warming and we need to change.

There is truth in global warming, that and global cooling, and its all natural.

It wasn't that long ago that the scientist and politicians were up in arms because they said "the next ice age is coming".

That was in the early Seventies, by the early Eighties we were all going to die in a nuclear holocaust.

Now we have Man Made global warming, which I guess has nothing to do with China, India, and Africa trying to join the "first world countries".

or

That our goverment does not want to spent money on bring this counties road network up to date?

or a hundred other reasons that have nothing to do with the Earth doing what its done for millions of years, warming up and cooling down.

Sorry but the money that gets spent on proving all the bs that comes out of 10 Dowing Street these days, could be better spent.
