How can you get out of it?

I have no car to get there so gotta rely on crappy public transport and where I live theres one bus god knows when.

I will miss overtime at work, so will loose money and struggle to pay the bills.

Must be ways of getting out of it.

i don't think you can, loosing money is not an excuse, they pay you a standard rate of about £30 per day i think. although some one may know.

You can ask to be excused but you have to say why you wish to be excused then you just have to wait and see what they decide.

Yep, as far as I know there's no way of getting out of it. They do give some remuneration, but it's not a great deal.

You can usually wangle your way out of it the first time, but if you try it twice there is little hope.

Lol, Ill probably end up on the wrong side of the room :wack:

1. When the Bailiff calls out "All rise!" stand up, click your heels, and shout "Ja wohl!"

2. Inform the judge that the £30 a day stipend is insufficient, and you will be billing the court at your usual consultation rate.

3. Bring your teddy bear, Mr. Cuddles, to the courtroom with you. When other people speak, say "Mr. Cuddles can't hear you!"

4. When questioned, persistently blame everything on freemasonry.

5. Dress Mr. Cuddles in a tiny John Birch Society T-shirt.

6. Address any female attorneys as "Foxy Mama."

They will pay travelling as well however you could always swear blind that you know the defendants but I doubt they will believe you know them all!

Its prob not a bad thing to do, prob interesting.

But I need overtime to pay for house and I dont wanna sit on a bus for an hour and a half every day!

i used to be a crown court clerk and it can be VERY interesting!!wish i could do it, but i know too much about the system now so not a chance. Yeah you could say that you recognise one of the defendants to be honest most trials dont run over a couple of days unless your unlucky one fraud case i sat in on went on for months there was that much evidence.

So do work pay you?

If they dont and I only get £30 a day. Thats sh1t.

Your company will still pay you as they have an obligation to. Plus you'll get £30 extra a day plus travelling expenses...least that's what I heard.

You could get your company to write a letter saying that they are going through tough times and you are an important person dealing with matters that only you can do, then you might get off, i did ?.

I've got out of it twice ;)

There is nobody else to pay my salary if I'm not working (and they refused to pay my daily rate  )

say your best friend or family member works for the police and you believe that they (police) do such a good job that everyone they arrest is 100% guilty so there is no need for trials or jury's

If thats true ill be in pocket then.

Have to check with them when I go into work.

depends on your company. our pay us a normal days wage but we have to get an offical form from the court etc

It depends on your company policy.

Legally your employer only has to pay you for 4 weeks annual leave or statutory sick pay after the 1st 3 days of an illness. Any other absence and there is no legal obligation for your employer to pay anything unless your employment contract says otherwise.

Most contracts nowadays specify that sickness, jury service etc are "at the employer's discretion."

You can get out of it. Just get your employer to write the court a letter saying they can't release you; this will either postpone it for a short time or indefinately as they may never ask again.

I got called up 15 years ago, I put it off about 5 times then I had to give them a date I could make. Loved doing it though - really interesting!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

"National front" T-Shirt did it for me :) !!!!! or was it the "I F*** for Coke" one I can't remember

incontinence?

Come on your missing the obvious, just fake an illness,

dont re-invent the wheel just use the good old fashioned sickie...

i did jury service and you can be there for up to 2 weeks. i didnt get paid from my job but i got a really shitty case and it lasted for just over a week. never want to do it again i lost out on about £130
