It seems that many of you guys seem so keen on a slicktop Zed.

Other than the fact they are quite rare is there any other reason?

The fact you can take the roof off was one of the main deciding factors for me to have a Zed over an RX7, Supra or GTO. I also had a T-bar MR2 tubs before so felt I could not let the "roof off" thing go.

So go on.....why???

z32 = cruisin machine, therefore needs targas. Unfortunately men like it more than women.

The people most impressed by mine seem to be children and men who work in kebab shops.

actually kids love mine too. especially when I drive past them as I pull out of my work.

They all point and shout "Mr Ford! Nice car!"

Some girl said today is that your little silver car?

I said LITTLE!?

.

Least they don't shout "Mr Car! Nice Ford!"

true true. They're really imaginitive with my nickname though. I get mr nissan, mr focus, mr vauxhall... the list is endless.

I always tell them its the old micra

they say 'REALLY'?

The reason I bought a Zed in the first place was it was the only Japanese car that had all the following:-

T-Tops for "wind in the hair" feeling whilst not totally affecting rigidity

Turbo's for ease of tuning

Sold in UK due to previous problems with insurance and parts availability

Nissan due to knowing the product

Looks

Also I like the LWB styling. I feel that the SWB is a little truncated and the LWB is much more elagent. Due to it's extra length the LWB is also easier to drift.

Theres 2 reason Slick Pete likes slick tops.

1. He's fitted with one himself

2. He cant have the "wind in the hair feeling" anymore

A slick top is a dark horse of the Z community.

I would love to own one but always thought the parts would be harder to get due to hardly any of them being on the road.

Only 2 members i know who still have one and i've luckily managed to sit in both and it just feels strange not having the sun on your head.

@phutumsch & @Slick Pete. how do you find them for parts ?

O, and are they SWB or LWB?, something i dont actually know..

It is very common in the USA. hundreds of them still exist.. A good few here too. Ifti has three. Bob Dion still has his. James Morgan too I think. Mike Sandford sold his drift version but its still being used and others....

Never once had an issue in acquiring parts Lee, I have 2 slicktops, the original one bought in 2009 and a recent import one I am migrating stuff over to that I got a few months ago.

I personally hate targas sunroofs and convertibles in any make.

Always have done and always will.

They are all the work of the devil.

Tintops rule for me.

Im going to miss my slicktops (had 4) but I have moved on.

Personally, would never want one - unless you're building a competitive racecar there is no need to get too caught up with relatively minor differences in weight IMO, and what is there not to love about the targa tops? I love taken them off, and when they're on, a glass roof is much more interesting than a solid roof.

Then again, I personally wouldn't want a SWB either so maybe I'm in the minority!

This club has always had a diverse range of opinions as to which is the best car in the range.

Long may that diversity and discussion continue.

Ive got a slicktop too, drove to Jimmers last week and to Eastbourne today, i love it. I also love my vert

If I could get my hands on a suitable Slicktop shell I’d probably re-shell my 2+2. Waste of a good 2+2 though.

I do like slick tops but I’d happily own any variant personally, maybe I’m easily pleased? [emoji2371] That said, I probably wouldn’t chose an N/A 2+2.

Unless you're a track slag, I don't really see the appeal in a slicktop. I mean, I don't dislike them, but having a glass roof/targas is definitely part of the appeal. Driving through Route Napoleon in southern France for example, the last car I'd want would be a fixed roof car. The experience is so much more of an event if you're totally open to the elements and the landscape.

I love the 300zx - all variants - and would happily have an LWB/SWB/targa/slicktop…… As long as it's a twin turbo :classic_wink:

I do favour the targa concept though, even though I rarely remove mine. It's just nice to have that option - especially as my DD is a retractable-hard-top-roadster.

Interesting though, following Z-car evolution. The original 240 was a fixed-top; then successive incarnations became targas; until the 350z. That started as a slicky, before the 'vert came along - and those two options continued into the 370z.

As for parts availability, why would a slicky be any different to the SWB targa - I mean, how often does the roof-type really have any bearing on Z-part numbers... Unless you're after roof parts LOL!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

tbh anyone with a slicktop is going to say there better! and in truth they probably are, if i was offered one, it would stripped out and tuned to death ? if i had any money

If you're running a zed your going to have no money anyway ???? I'm glad fuel prices have eased a bit !  At least I can drive it more at weekends .

I've had a t,top and have a slick top as well I think what we have to say they are both made by Nissan and are great cars ! I loved my 2+2 T,top it was fast handled very well and was fairly  practical day to day use. As for driving it with the panel's out ? Well me and my son went out for a drive it was a good excuse for 2 blokes to look cool ok ? So there we are going down the road looking cool really stretching the zed legs !

So we come into a well known Yorkshire town where all the tourists are and we're looking cool .But as we drive by all the people we realise people are looking at the car the busting into laughter ? So being cool blokes we stare straight ahead and pretend we haven't noticed the obvious mirth of onlookers.  It wasn't until we pull up for a coffee and turned and looked at each other I looked at my son and said "here your hair is stuck straight up you look a right pratt" he replied  'so is yours "  because of the roof was off our hair was being groomed upwards for about 2hrs ! ? we looked like Jedwood ?????

So now being a man of a certain age I'm all in favour for the tin top so people look at the car not me! The wife suggested I could have put a cap on but I guess she had forgotten I look like a pratt in a hat ! ???

So I'm not really bothered which one you own or prefer both are fantastic cars why else did Nissan go racing them. Look at the racing history !   Interesting fact about the zed it was put up against a Porsche, Supra,Mitsubishi 3000,Toyota Mr2,Honda NSX, It came 2and only being beaten on points by the NSX . It's worth pointing out at this time the zed was nearing the end of its production having already been around for ten years. In my opinion all zeds are great cars ! Let's enjoy them and each other's experiences in owning one .?
