Hi all after spending ££££ on my Z, I hear they are expanding the ULEZ zone in October 2021.

This will then cover where I live, so I am thinking of options which aren’t many seeing I only want to drive my 300.

i assume all major towns will follow or have already.

They could roll it out across the country, there’s no money and no transportation other than cars outside the M25. Good luck charging people round here, the courts will over flowing.

No many charging points here either. The thing that makes my blood boil is for £12.50 a day you can still drive your old car so it is a tax rather than lowering emissions.

You can’t have a hybrid in London because the cats are getting stolen every minute as are keyless cars.

Insurance prices are a joke as well because of this.

Yup - a Zed will fall foul of the ULEZ next year....

…..Not to mention how Sadiq Khan has fooked up the roads in London. Luckily, I don't live there myself; but visiting my parents in Leyton has become a nightmare. From replacing the perfectly functioning roundabout at Whipps Cross with stupid traffic lights that take an age to change; to closing off pretty much all the side roads en-route to my folks, meaning I have to sit in traffic for miles along Lea Bridge Road. It used to take me 10 minutes from leaving the A406 at The Waterworks; now it's more like 35 minutes :classic_angry: Hell, I can travel the whole way from home to The Waterworks in that time on a good day!!

That and the endless proliferation of speed humps - I no longer take the Zed there anyway. I don't much like taking the Merc there either; hence I replaced Julia's car with one that is ULEZ friendly.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

We have ULEZ in Brighton city centre now. Our training buses for the Noobs are not allowed in the zone (engines are not compliant) so the trainees never learn how to drive around the city centre (busiest/craziest/dangerous roads in the whole city) then they are dumped into it the first day in service....

We the public own the roads we pay for, but have no say in what happens or how the money is spent. The government are setting up the younger generation to conform to being herded like sheep.

You have the Green Party representing Brighton in Parliament, so I am not surprised......:classic_wink:

Agreed, it’s my least favourite part of the south outside London.

It’s a big con ulez is doing just to get cars off the road cars 1974 back are exempt so that means cars made after which are worth multi thousands which aren’t exempted and are expected to be scrap? Just to make way for explosive battery cars which will make lives worse, old cars might have some pollution issues but isn’t it the fuel at fault? Why not make conversion kits for them all instead of making great cars suffer the fate of other peoples ignorance.

sadly until people revolt against the morons who make these decisions based on scamming more money, it'll never change. A lot more going on in the world, look up the world economic forum to be afraid!

I feel that the environment does need to be saved, but that there are other methods that could be used. Passing a law that says all new builds must have solar panels and/or wind turbines on chimney pots would wein us off fossil fuels for producing electricity. This would help the environment. Improving public transportation OUTSIDE of London. While London has a good 24/7/365 service, our local estate only has an hourly service that only runs after 9am and before 5pm. Build it and they will come. More people on public transportation would help the environment. More education aimed from a young age to be more aware to the environment, saving electricity, not dropping litter. If everyone did their bit, we would be contributing and helping.

The problem is that everyone wants everything now, look at things like Amazon prime and on-demand. This has lead to a distribution network based on the "just-in-time" philosophy. Companies order their stock as and when it's needed so you end up with lots of deliveries to warehouses and end users. If everyone was prepared to wait a week for their delivery, companies could order stock in bigger bulk and less offen meaning a reduction in actual fossil fuelled journeys. Also looking at how those goods are moved. Why are we still moving goods around on lorries when trains are much more efficient at moving big loads. The Beeching cuts in the 60's ruined out rail network, all because he owned a motorway construction company. The ideal solution would be transport via train between cities/big towns and use electric small vans to distribute around the local area.

Either way nothing will change because "saving the environment" is used by government and companies to actually create more money.

Revolution I say, off with their heads, then we can actually make change happen...!

The worst bit is the government should be leading by example and but instead they put the onus onto the public to fork out the money for shitty electric cars. Referencing the ideas Tom mentions, they should be giving incentives to businesses and large corporations to make change which would have a mass reduction on emissions. When technology like hydrogen cars were being explored by Honda and Toyota over 15 years ago, the governments didn’t incentivise the R&D into that or the infrastructure upgrades to accommodate it - all because oil business was too big and huge brown envelopes were probably passed around to block alternative fuels going ahead. Now it’s too late, realised they have to do something and in a mad rush to promote electric cars. So now my daily driver which has one of the best Diesel engines ever made, that’s good for another 150k miles in my hands, isn’t Ulez compliant but the petrol version that does 200 miles less to a tank is compliant!! Good thing I hardly ever drive into London but if the Ulez disease spreads to my end, then I’m stuffed!

+1 for a revolution 😆

Who gave the mayor of London permission to implement a law for outer London ULEZ?

No One.

Not the Government or Parliament, Not the Councils, Not we the voting public.

Does greater London not fall under his jurisdiction? I believe he is what's known as a metro mayor. The devolved system was setup in the 2010's and include places like Manchester and Liverpool. It gives the mayor's office devolved powers from the government to run multiple local authorities as one big authority.

So I think, if I have got this right, the government gave the London mayor the devolved governmental powers to make these decisions, the councils are controlled by the mayor's office, so they couldn't argue or stop him and finally the public voting for him made him democratically chosen and able to exercise the mayor's power.

If I'm right, him extending the ULEZ zone, which was set up by Boris Johnson, I think, is well within his powers as mayor and because he has governmental devolved powers, there isnt much the government can do.

Short of a revolution, I can't see a way out of it. We should be more European and set cars on fire, block roads with tractors rather than mumbling and groaning in true British style and then paying the £12.50 anyway...

Viva la revolution...
