I have just purchased a flywheel from Z1 (USA)

Today I have recieved an invoice from FedEx Express for £65.64

Is this a normal duties & taxes invoice as I have not imported from US before.

Its a percentage of the declared value that Z1 has put on the parcel plus various courier fees.

 

For car parts you will be charged duty (4.5%) on the declared value of the goods and then VAT (20%) on the goods, the shipping and duty combined.

Plus a courier handing admin fee for customs clearance (usually £12 to £20 depending on the courier).

That does sound normal. It can be cheaper anyway to get parts from the US with all the fees vs buying from a UK supplier anyway. Plus if you are looking for standard parts in future then try Amayama.com and put the part number in as I’ve had a few parts from UAE that are cheaper than the US, Japan and UK with all the fees and shipping. I always just add 30% on a cost and you’re not far off.

Makes you wonder why, after all this time, the EU does not have a free trade agreement with the US . . . 

Sometimes you can get away with it. The last two previous orders from Rockauto.com slipped in with no import taxt, however my last order of £180 got hit with a £30ish tax.... I thought I had got away with it especially after the last two times! ?
