It was a recent consensus that prices for these cars were climbing. However keeping an eye on these things there seems to be stuff about cheaper than what was.

For example on eBay there’s more than one TT for about 3k, for a running car with an MOT.

On Social Media both Mike Feeney from MJP and Simon from Hide and Seat are selling great cars for not a lot, think Simons car is up for £5k!

On here there’s a decent UK spec unsold for £4.5k.

Interesting to note the amount of cars not for sale via the club... different topic. Maybe the quoted values were a tad optimistic?

I’m not sure what the values are doing to be fair but the car Mike advertised for one of his customers on FB is up for £20k? Simon Lee is selling his at a reduced price due to a compression issue. Simon Parsons practically gave his Z away (in my opinion) which is probably why it sold very shortly after the ad went live.

Well I never once saw a price for that on the forum where the seller has posted more than anyone else and to this day still not a clue what it sold for .

All the traders I know are reporting the market is fairly dead just now.

I paid £3,600 for mine 8 years ago and would be looking at 20k plus to find one in the same condition. A guy from near Dublin who was at a show with me paid 15k to import a 93 manual TT which was also in good condition. So if you are looking for a good 300zx you will pay top doller and even at that its still a bargain.

Didn’t know Simon was selling either, do wonder what’s the point of this forum when it isn’t the first point of call for selling or just informing fellow members and to not even have a for sale thread and he once held trader status for many years [emoji52].

Sorry yeah, the car Mikes selling is 20k, misread that.

Get what your saying Gary and Lee but is it true? Now. Josh Lakes got a very nice freshly imported TT auto for about 6k. There’s a couple of Zs in Road worthy condition for about what they would of been worth 5-6 years ago.

Some examples off this very forum, which is a very limited sample of the market...

£7.6k is fair money for a Z32 but for a U.K. TT in this condition, surely this should be far more of value?

It’s a great car btw who ever owns it.

Yours for a mere 4.5k, on the market since September.

If a good example is worth over £10,000 you shouldn’t be able to buy this project for a £2k, it needs a new engine but the rest of it is a good little car.

Prices have clearly risen but I’m not sure they’re doing quite what we think.

Mr Parsons car would of sold quickly, if it was at a fair price. The car is a celebrity because of the brand Simon built around it throughout his ownership, there would of been a que of people waiting to buy it. Even if it sold for £30k it’s sale isn’t really a reflection on the market as a whole, it’s like a film car or something with a following.

Good points all round - and I'd like to add that we could also be seeing a seasonal fluctuation in prices too.

These cars haven't hit the "investible classic" status, so could still get caught up in the seasonable drop in all sports car prices. Demand for sports cars becomes low at this time of year - and rises for 4x4s

My car trader friend is selling Julia's old Evoque for me; and he actually put the price UP by £1000 last week, to keep it in line with the market. Whilst conversely, he is dropping prices on things like Boxsters, MX5s etc.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I imported my 1991 Z TT five years ago at a total cost of cost of 7K to get it on the road.

Looking at prices over in Japan today they range from 8K to 21K.

I like the Z for its looks style & drive ability.

With new discs brakes all round, new stainless exhaust, full cam belt change, three automatic gearboxes!

Now 1K manual conversion about to take place. Not actually an investment. Will I get my money back? NO!

Do I care NO! I just like the Z! & I doubt Simon who’s Z was fantastic got a bonus of money he put into it.

I would say of all the Jap performance cars the z32 300zx is the cheapest out there even though they are one of the best models.

Undoubtedly. Even other cars of the same marque like the 200sx or GTiR have crept up in value significantly. Skyline GTRs are really up there.

Still Japan's best kept secret as the unknown supercar or the one they are scared to buy in case it breaks down

Any illusion that I’ve made money on mine is complete deception. It would have to worth about £15k for me to have made money on it over that last decade. However as someone who is in the position of consideration of moving on (no secret) the real world value has meaning, simply because; If I can get something else I want more or something else I’d want with some equity, that’s a big pull to sell. Realistically everything I’ve got my eye on would require a top up on the toy fund to get me to 10-15k. Whilst I have no need to sell, thankfully, I have a number of other large financial comitments at present.

Sadly the latter. They have a reputation, some they deserve others they don’t. That list includes, expensive to maintain and modify, unreliable, heavy with poor handling, rust buckets, over complicated and believe it or not... slow, yup, slow.

Not slow for a GT

Slow as a sports car! Which it’s not? Is it?

Thats the common view out there when people buy on the cheap and it needs a shed load of money to fix it. I must say my 300zx is the most reliable car I have ever owned. Proper maintance is a must as with any performance car. You will not but these cars and run them on the cheap

Not saying they are all my opinion, they are wildly held opinions though. For thier time, they were quick, by modern standards though... and that’s what people think about.

I do believe that Steve...! Again, people are mis-informed; as they often confuse it, performance and dynamically-wise with the Z31 - which was just that by the time the Z32 came out! Poor marketing by Nissan, there, in retaining the "300zx" moniker.

Still not terribly slow by modern standards either; albeit it will be out-gunned by a modern hot hatch in a B-road blast. That said, a stock TT will still have to work hard against a big-engine modern German TDI in the autobahn 60-100mph dash. The torque of those 3.0 litre Audi/BMW/Merc twin turbo 6s pretty impressive!!!

Agree entirely! Body issues aside - which I am only too aware of, having had my sills rebuilt last year - mine has been reliable too. The Zed is still my first choice when it comes to holidays and I have never had any reliability concerns before setting off to Cornwall for a week. It gets driven "properly" each time  and, despite its appetite for fuel and rear tyres, does the job without issue

I'm under no illusion as to whether it's an investment though. At the moment, it's a hobby; I still love the car - and the attention it receives whenever I do take it anywhere. I love driving it and being a part of this, albeit rapidly dwindling, community. If it does gain value and investible classic status in the future, that's a bonus. Will I cash in on it though? Probably not - as the kind of car I might replace it with will have moved on too; keeping the cost to change still the same. If I sold mine in the next few years, I'd most probably replace it with another…

Agreed - I mean the E-type is still a pretty fast car. However by modern standards it is slow, handles poorly and the less said about the brakes, the better. But the E-Type has attained that serious investible classic status; and because of its age and iconic reputation, none of that matters. The 300zx is, whilst 30 years old, still a relatively modern car in many peoples' eyes; which is why it's judged by modern standards. Give it another 30 years - if there are any Z32s left - and who knows....

I never forget driving an original Beetle, such a cult car... I literally would pay not to drive one.

Who's got mr Parsons zed now

Who's got mr Parsons zed now

For some bizarre reason it seems to be top secret...Why it has so much "mystique" baffles me as although it is an outstanding Zed i can think of at least 3 others in this club that warrant the podium with regards to Nissan originality resulting in a higher value.
