Hello everyone,

Some of you might know my red 300zx :) I am using my 300zx as a daily car as its fun being different haha, for the last few weeks I have kind a started thinking maybe I should sell my zed as i will never stop modding it and get an original 99spec zed, obviously save up a bit a and look for a really clean 100% original car, either here in uk(obviously not many of them are here) or just get one imported. Yes i know its expensive but it is also a good investment. In that case if I would go for 99 spec I would keep it 100% stock (Suspension and etc) that would also be much more like road friendly as its not that low and stiff to use as a daily driver.

What do you guys think should i do it or not?

I like the idea of a stock 99, but personally if I was going to spend out on one I'd be reluctant to use it through the winter as a daily

yes as we have picked up dry unit now with my friends i was thinking of same of not using over the winter and just get cheap runner for that time, and all other seasons just daily it.

Perfect! I'd do that if i was you, plus long term a 99 spec will be a far better investment than a modded Zed

Thats exactly what i was thinking :)

"Back in the day" when I was in my late teens through to my late twenties I thought the fun of cars was all in the bhp and handling. Now, as I'm getting older, I'm finding there's just as much fun to be had with maintaining a clean stock car. Racing around like a loon, stereo blaring and my spine slowly crumbling away with every pot hole just seems bloody silly now. The ride of a standard 300 with those big side wall tyres, fresh suspension and good bushes, from memory, is very comfortable. My current 300 covered 90k+ in its first 7 years. This shows to me that they make great daily drivers if well maintained and stock. My opinion is do it and enjoy it. You can still be different and comfortable.

Use it through the winter, spend whatever money you would have to use on alternative transport over the winter on caring for the underside of the body.

As I have got this super stiff caged 1jz twin turbo soarer, 300zx 99 spec 100% stock would be ideal replacement for my modded 300zx i think.

Why a 99? I like the bumper and skirts as much as the next man but other than that they are a worse spec AFAIK and command very high prices. Not worth it IMO, just put the bits on an earlier stock car for far less money.

You should probably try a stock car first though as you might not like it!

other than that they are a worse spec

99 spec.....

Revised stronger andsafer door locks

revised stronger steering set up.

Revised suspension to give a sportier ride.

Revised interiors

As well as the exterior upgrades on bumper and rear lights and spoiler

I've never heard most of that. The general consensus seems to be the later cars are worse from what I've heard, I seem to remember (maybe I've got this wrong, sorry if I have!) that Jeff himself said he thought S3/S4 were best overall. Maybe the 99s are different though

Only thing thats worse is the manual ac

Loss of variable timing also no?

Not that it makes a considerable difference.

I've read complaints about lower quality like thinner carpets, no boost gauge (though I have a feeling they may have made a return in 99?), no cruise, manual AC as has been mentioned.

But if lots if people are disagreeing then maybe I've read the general feeling wrong, I'm not saying any of this out of my own personal experience, just thought I was reporting generally held views so happy to be told I'm wrong!

As much as I like the 99-spec, I wouldn't go out of my way to buy one personally. I'd rather get a low mileage mint condition earlier example which is likely to be better equipped. I also prefer the styling of earlier cars.

As an investment, I still think a mint UK car is likely to command the highest price. Our new member Evoblade, with his 10k UK car has, what I think will be one of the countries most sought after and valuable cars in the country. I also believe that using one as a daily drive will damage the investment opportunity.

If I may Joel "one of the country's most sought after and valuable Z32s in the country" Prices are on the rise but not by that much!

“What will be” (eventually). I’m thinking 10+ years down the line as we’re talking about investment cars. It’s just my opinion that when/if it comes to that point where these cars are carried away in a bubble of significant value, that an original UK supplied car will be at the forefront of desirability.

I’ll be happily proved wrong but I think they will be the rarest examples in mint condition, possibly even more so than a 99spec car.

I personally wouldn't bother, Edviss...!

If you have a sound car, in good condition, then keep it. You'll pay a fortune to import a 99-spec car - and even though z32 prices appear to be on the rise, they are still taking their time to find the right buyer.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
