Some may have noticed at shows I tend to install a show plate as I think it looks nicer without a registration and also more universal. I have also been known to take the Z out for a random drive to find a nice location for photos (yes I am a loser) and I normally carry a show plate in my boot.

I’ve had a few different variants of the plate over the years:

Recently I have recently been working on a new one. I’ve replicated the plate from the marketing photos used for the 99 spec cars (with a few choice scale changes). I haven’t made the final pieces yet but the prototypes are looking pretty good.

The jury is still out on the colour but I’m a fan of the black background with white text. I’m also considering a front show plate although I wasn’t a fan of the first revision of that I tried (see pic below), so I’m experimenting with a white one at the front with black text (probably a smaller size). I don’t normally display a plate on the front during shows:

Does anyone else have something similar? I know Baz has his Fairlady Z plate on his 99 front end which looks cool. [emoji41]

How is your front plate attached Joely? I'm thinking of having a detachable one with no screw holes in the bumper

Did you find the font or create it by hand? I thought of doing the same, but I MIght hold out and buy a genuine one.

Definitely black background with white (or silver) text Joel......

I made an L shaped Aluminium bracket that mounts on 3 of the fastener holes that are used to secure the grille behind the upper inlet. The fasteners go in from underneath at the back of the lower inlet (see pic):

And how's it detachable? Surely you don't take a screwdriver to it everytime?

My front plate isn't entirely legal (it's too small) so I carry a legal plate in the boot. An easy swap with sticky backed Velcro. Never had either one fall off :)DSCF0001.JPG

The important question being, is it on the road yet?

And to get back on topic, I may suggest a black on white Japanese plate? Maybe not as bland as the one in the top pic.

There is a font that is remarkably close which was found by AndrewG but there are some minor differences so a bit of both really. When I say by hand, I really mean, by hand on mouse!

I’ve never seen an original one personally and I prefer the black background which I don’t think was ever used (maybe I’m wrong on that?). Also, these plates are quite different to how the originals would be due to the layered construction of perspex on top of aluminium to give some depth.
