One of the few things on the Z32 that I actually think is utterly terrible and that's the shitty fibre boards used for the boot floor that are woefully flimsy and warp.

I am probably going to remake a set out of slightly thicker MDF and then get them flocked for a bit of added sound deadening. Just wondering whether anyone else has re-made theirs out of something a little less 'MFI'?

I know Maniacal Motorsports do a set for $100 (via CZP) but shipping and potential breakage doesn't make it worthwhile.

i once replicated mine from 1/4" plywood...much better and stopped that rear hatch carpet sagging that these cars suffer from with age

Mine is ply,

Did i get mine off you by any chance ?

No Lee, i never told you i had a set otherwise you would of took em with you ime sure:clown:

I've been thinking about doing them out of Perspex or ply ?? Can then be flocked or wrapped or carpeted?

What do people reckon??

Why would you choose ply over MDF? Granted, it's stronger, but unless you're carrying the whole of Wales in the boot, MDF would be the best option, easier to cut, leaves nicer edges and has a better finish.

I am doing a set out of ply at the moment. I am making it fit the whole boot though not just the size of the oem pieces.

mdf warps/disintergrates when wet bear in mind.

So does ply......

I'm going to exploit the "workers" in either the carpentry shop or trades building at work:innocent::shifty:

Got them to knock up some high backed chairs for the kitchen last week and their work is tidy enough:thumbup:

I'm thinking a few panels should be a walk in the park

MDF is heavier..

Exactly, a more dense material likely to stay put a bit better than light timber. :)

After completing this today, it only took about an hour.

I would have to side with Si, only for the reason of splintering. The jigsaw will splinter ply, but leave smoother cuts out of MDF. As long as it's strong enough and your rear wiper doesn't leak then you should be good032bf92c448f992ce5fa33bbc3aae2b2.jpg

 It will splinter if cut with a chainsaw my friend...wood and boards is my life and has paid my bills for almost 40 years:D

Sure I could have made it neater, smaller teeth or done by hand, but I really couldn't be bothered [emoji38]

I'd rather use rotten bovine scrotums than either of your two suggestions!

I just made a new boot floor last week as my battery is in the spare wheel well so sits a little higher. Used 18mm MDF and split it into 3 pieces. Covered in standard black audio trim material.

In my opinion If I made it again (which i will have to for Dads car lol), make it out of two pieces, leaving a hatch for the jack and so you can actually get the first board in. Much neater.

irrelevant to Si of course but worth a note to others imo.

I used Kevlar composite honeycomb floorboards from an Airbus(!) on mine so they're super lightweight and very strong. Then I plastered a load of sound deadening everywhere so I may aswell have used concrete!
