The recess and the threaded hole was originally where the early import seat belt reel fitted, the plastic going into the recess was there to keep the belt dry, the control unit you have there I am sure is part of the alarm, have seen Nissan sirens in the door also, it has just been fitted there as the place was available.

I have one of these in my '99. No idea what it is so I'd like to know too.

 

I opened it, it has some sort of flat, concentric metallic discs inside, but I've never seen one like it before so I put it back and moved on.

Sounds like piezo buzzer, it likely is the part that makes the alarm noises.

 

Yes, this is what it looks like, I hadn't considered anything like that.

Does that mean my car had factory remote locking once then??? :confused1:

Can't say I noticed it in mine, but I'm taking the door cards off again soon so I'll have another look

I also had this fitted in my zed, along with a horn mounted in the door a control unit for the factory infra red locking and the infra red receiver mounted near the sail panel, all removed since fitting the toad.
