Posted September 30, 20168 yr I just want more damn power! Having been fortunate enough to drive some HUGE hp Z32s (850hp being the most powerful), I've decided I just can't handle 1bar and most have more! I'm going to be pushing the stock motor a little, but I'm confident it can take it if done correctly. Jimmer rebuilt me a fine engine a decade ago and I'm keen to see how drivable it will be with the correct modifications. I've gotten to the point where everything else has been upgraded except the clutch, so with the exhaust, Brembo brakes, single piece prop and the general amazing health of the engine and turbos, it's time to do something a little more. The plan is 555 injectors, Profec B, 2.5" intake, possibly a Selin Translator and a MUCH better clutch and a full day rolling road tune with a Nistune board I hope to get close 400hp although I'm not chasing power figures, drivability is first and foremost so response and turbo spool are what I'm more interested in. Whilst that won't seem like much to sum, I am keen to retain drivability and see how good the stock block and heads actually are. Have also considered the JWT cams and I think I can get a good reliable figure. A good map is key and I've found someone good to do it. I will most likely need RLTC just for safety. If it doesn't last, Power Enterprise turbos and some better pistons will be bought.
September 30, 20168 yr Well that was... unexpected. Are you sure about the cams? The *racing cams in Ash's car made it quite lumpy at idle. Well not lumpy but not smooth either.
September 30, 20168 yr Author I've been wanting more power for a while. There are 2 different profiles that JWT do, I'd get the mild versions if I were to go that route.
September 30, 20168 yr I'd like to see the results anyway. Did i read somewhere that the stock tb22s max out at about 16psi? Edited September 30, 20168 yr by Alic
September 30, 20168 yr Author No, they can take a little more. 18/19psi and they run out of puff. The stock engine's most limiting factors are their breathing and low flow injectors. Nissan de-tuned these engines quite a bit by restricting airflow and fuel.
October 1, 20168 yr i've jwt R5 "race" cams, overkill for you, "Mild" is definatly best for you, 2.5" pipework is good, but can be a bit messy, may lose your oem look under the bonnet. modernising the power of the zed to bring it in line with its newer rivals, logical step for OEM+

October 1, 20168 yr R5's (500 not RM5) are new cams, mild (S1) 100 are reground manual OE cams (requiring cores), all are sets of 4 as far as I'm aware, specs
October 1, 20168 yr Good luck with the extra power Si its nice to have more BHP without going overboard and killing the engine or the Z. I think I'm happy with my 350bhp and will just concentrate on its looks but more power is all that is left for you to do now so hope all goes well and look forward to the updates mate. :thumbup1:
October 1, 20168 yr Stuff the bhp, shoot for torque. Here's where you start; 2.5" intake pipework, planer kit, dual maf, msp manifolds, 3"dp and 3"-2.5" decat.

October 1, 20168 yr Author Yeah, I have Z1 intercoolers. I think (know) the stock engine was over engineered to a certain potential and I just want to unlock what was the restrictions given to it. I'll draw the line at MSP fannymoulds unless I change the turbos at a later point.
October 1, 20168 yr No, they can take a little more. 18/19psi and they run out of puff.. Eek !!! dangerous territory there Si, you will have that tuner guy..... erm..... damn forgot his name, lives in Nania or somwhere, anyhow telling you that you know nothing and he can get 500 bhp out of a standard engine..... yep really, honest, its real  Jeff Edited October 1, 20168 yr by JeffTT
October 1, 20168 yr Author My tuning advice on stock engines comes from Los Angeles, not from Leicester.

October 1, 20168 yr Very interested in how all this all comes together Simon. Out of interest, where does head porting sit within the enhancement of intake improvements? and exhaust come to think of it. Or is that kind of modification old hat now?
October 1, 20168 yr My tuning advice on stock engines comes from Los Angeles, not from Leicester. What do the Americans know about tuning these cars. The stock block is only good for 350bhp and only 280 with a series 1 ptu.
October 1, 20168 yr what do the americans know about tuning these cars. The stock block is only good for 350bhp and only 280 with a series 1 ptu. s*** Other than reliability what is wrong with the S1 ptu? My car was sold as '400hp' which is just a load of *****cks, just with the decat, intercoolers and the ecu I reckon i could get close. But don't really want to until i see what injectors its got in it. Edited October 1, 20168 yr by Alic

Good head work is money in the bank tuning wise.

My intention was to have a specialist replace the 2" outlets on my Greddy coolers with 2.5". Assuming the cost is less than me selling them and buying a new set. Possibly an option for you too Simon?
