Very pleased with it! Only odd thing is the chassis plate is missing....slightly concerning. Thought it looks like it's been gone for a while. I assume it had to go through various checks in Japan though so.....

Any thoughts?

But that's not a valid VIN number for Z32s.

The original VIN is recorded in the export certificate. It's a question of whether they'll accept that.

How is it the original (from the factory)?

Yes a GCZ32 code which matches the description of the car.

I must have missed something...

You are aware Chris the auction sheet clearly shows the vin number was incorrect as it does not start with GCZ32,Im amazed how that slipped through the net if im honest.

I must have missed something...

It has the gcz number written in another box, not the chassis number box. So yes I'm wondering whether that is enough for the dvla to let me use that number again

I must have missed something...

The auction sheet did not show a normal VIN. The export certificate (a legal document) does, but it doesn't appear to be in the normal place.

If you PM me the number I will put it into FAST and see what comes out.

Have done! Thanks

I hope you get this sorted Chris - and I'm sure Garry will come good for you either way mate.... :clover:

What would I do? Well, like you, part of me would want to just get the car registered and enjoy it; as I would plan to keep it for many years to come. So selling it on, might not be in my sights for some time.

However circumstances change - and fate can also intervene. What if the car was written off; would your insurance company pay out anything near what you paid, if there was an issue with the VIN? Head vs heart, I'd probably play it safe and look for a refund.

But before making any decision, see what DVLA say when you register the car. If there's no problem, and you do decide to keep the car, be sure to retain all correspondence, documents, paperwork etc. One day, you might rely on it, to prove the car's legitimacy to a future buyer or insurance assessor!

Fingers crossed for you mate.

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

All things considered, if it was me, I would push for a full refund.

I just would not be able to rest my mind knowing that for some strange reason, a perfectly presented car has had it's original VIN no' ground off, and in such a shoddy way as well.

Just not for me I'm afraid.

I don't envy you at all.

Working on the basis that so many members would push for a refund then thats the future buying/selling base right there and ime sure you would not be able to ever sell this car imho. What would i do?? i would park the car up and heavily push for a full refund including all out of pocket costs.

As said I bought & imported my Z ( no dealer & not from an auction house)

So if I had paid for someone to buy & import a Car for me I would expect 100% things to be ok !

What does your importer say?

Unfortunately I don't think it's as simple as all of you think it is. I'm still waiting for the history at the moment as well as some info from the dvla.

I can't help but think people are being a bit over dramatic as well tbh. The fact the export certificate and all of the other paperwork clearly shows this new vin number removes all doubt as to it's legality. It's even had it's import duty and vat paid against this number, and is being put onto Nova with this vin. How could it possibly be argued now or in the future that it is illegal?

I'm not worried about the insurance as I'll have agreed valuation anyway so there won't be any surprises.

As for resale value, I'm not sure it's worth my effort to worry about something that may or may not happen in 10 years time. This amount of money over that length of time? I've got better things to do than worry about that

I am going to see whether I can register it first, then think about my options as that's the crucial sticking point at the moment

That being said, I am considering whether I should get some legal advice, but I don't really know who I should talk to...

Iff my reply promted this remark then ime very sorry bud and wish you the best outcome once sorted. Iff you feel importing a car and finding it has the original VIN ground away and replaced with a new number which contains the text fuk u normal and not worthy of dramatic replies then thats all good too. Goodluck;)

I'll reiterate what Art has said, what has the importer said about all this!!!???

No it wasn't in response to you, or anyone in particular. I just don't think a lot of people have really grasped what's going on, are jumping to conclusions and coming up with unrealistic solutions. I know it just sounds like I'm being grumpy and moany but it's not exactly helping me to try and deal with this.

Still all this worry about why it has been ground off rather than just why I wasn't told about it, which are very different. I've given the evidence many times now that it is perfectly legal.

I got some info from the dvla yesterday that I can just put the old vin back on if I want. Getting clarification on that, not sure they fully understood the question but promising anyway and opens up some possibilities.

A lot of people seem to think it is a simple matter to get my money back. As much as I think this is my importers fault, do you really think he will just roll over and pay up the full amount? No way in hell. He will argue that I didn't buy the car off him so he's not liable, he just facilitated me buying it. I suspect I would have to take him to court, which has plenty of associated costs with it and could drag on for ages. And in the mean time, I have no zed and no money to buy a new one.

Hence I am looking at the options to see if I can come up with a compromise. I am not happy with it as it is, but I don't really think anyone has thought through what it would probably take to get a full refund.

As for what he has said, at the moment he is trying to get some info about it's history together. I'm waiting for that, and a few other things, before I go any further.

I know that all sounds very moany and I'm sorry about that and I am grateful for everyone's support and trying to offer advice

You'll definitely be the last of his customers in that case. In the long term, it would probably make more financial sense for him to refund you and sell the car on for a slight loss, but that's just what I would think about doing.

Well we'll have to see, I'm letting him finish what he wants to look into first then we'll talk about it

Hypothetically speaking Chris, if Garry was to offer you a full refund, would you take it?

Good question. If I can put the original vin back on then I'd be perfectly happy with say a 50% refund. But failing that then I would seriously consider the refund. Will have to see

i hope he does sort this out for you mate being had over by any trader is crossing the line
