Very pleased with it! Only odd thing is the chassis plate is missing....slightly concerning. Thought it looks like it's been gone for a while. I assume it had to go through various checks in Japan though so.....

Any thoughts?

i don't think you will have much luck with the auction house to be honest, i've never seen anything like that in all my time of importing but hopefully there is a rational explanation behind it Car was bought at USS Yokohama on the 14th June if you need help tracing it

Thanks for the info, yes I'm well aware of that my agent won the auction for me!

Hi Chris,

So sorry to hear of what has happened here, having spent some time studying the DVLA website and although not totally a clear cut case it would seem the same thing that comes back each time is how the Vin number ID is the responsibility of the importing agent, if it not known or not present they have imported the vehicle with incomplete and incorrect paper work which is contrary to the importation regulations, I have no idea how you can fix this except to shout at the top of your voice to all and any agencies involved, at the very least I would be demanding a full refund of your money whilst this is sorted out.

Unless any Vin Number can be verified in Japan and solid documentation to identify that the number belongs to that car you are stuffed, even a Q plate will need to pass a type approval which again is the importers responsibility and no way a certainty, also of course with the present Vin number having been ground off the seller has misled you and fraudulently obtained the money from you as it would of been worth only a fraction of what you paid with the present problem, any agent you paid the money to or through is liable too according to the sites I looked at it states that essentially all agents involved are complicit with the fraud by administration association, what you also need to be asking of those agencies or individuals is the details of their insurance cover and set about making a claim, just might help speed them up a bit assuming of course provided they are genuine dealers with full insurance.

I hope you get it sorted matey , try not to get too down ( easy to say I know ) you have done nothing wrong the professional's have let you down, now get them to pay up!

Good Luck

Jeff

You are aware Chris the auction sheet clearly shows the vin number was incorrect as it does not start with GCZ32,Im amazed how that slipped through the net if im honest.

Something that's easy to miss if you're not experienced with auctions, unfortunately. Given a grade 4 you wouldn't expect to find anything unusual.

Well as the title of the box is written in Japanese I had no idea that box is supposed to show the chassis number. But you think someone else would have noticed...

It would suggest that the replacement vin number does carry some official Japanese authority and it probably clears the auction house of any wrongdoing??? Ie the car had a (replacement) vin stamped on it and that matched the paperwork..

I thought it was bought by someone "experienced with auctions"???

Yes, as I said earlier it does have this number on it so I think it's been done legally. But I feel it's been mis-sold to me as it's value will be much lower and I'm not sure how I will register it

There may still be some question as to whether the auction house has described it properly as from the translation I got they didn't say the old number had bend ground off. But not sure that's my problem anyway

Makes you wonder how the significance of bodywork, interior, etc, is in a grading to get it a four, if the paperwork/provenence is not in order it's unfortunate in this case but the grading must be down at a 1 i would of thought.

Would you of bought knowing this ? 100% you'd of said no.

I not so long ago had a chance of a cat D vehicle, price was reduced goes without saying, but it still did not tempt me, stigma against it and then one day i would of had to sell - not for me i'm afraid.

Somethings adrift here!

Just looking at my paper work Chris,

Have not gat the paperwork from HM Revenue & Customs?

This doc tells you that the import vehicle post Clearence checks satisfied that the VAT & duty is paid.

This doc has to have the VIN number on it.

Sorry should read

Have you not got the paperwork !

Someone has to have this document!

Apparently they're still processing it and the paperwork hasn't come through yet, though I have an invoice saying I've paid

Shipping from Japan takes about 10-12 weeks... That's not normal...

Sorry just realised you meant paperwork on your side.

Hi Chris not wishing to upset anyone but these docs ur importer should have as proof of import.

Yes well where I have blanked off is where your VIN number should be!

On all the docs.

It is! I don't doubt it's legality anymore, just whether it has been mis-sold (to me), future value implications and whether I can register it

What a mess good luck.

If u have the docs then u have a VIN number then u can apply to dvla for a reg number!

Auction Grading isn't a holy book to go by neither, yes as far as it goes a Grade 4 is deemed good however auctions sheets must always be looked at with care as Grade 4 cars come up with replaced panels, repainted or repaired or just generally in need of work. it is something that your agent should of told you about, for the reasons you have already stated it will seriously affect re-sale value and put any potential buyer off- if you are happy with the car i wouldn't think about it too much- a full refund may be a little extreme but i would definitely be expecting some sort of reimbursement even if its in the form of the agent you used subsidising his fee for basic negligence. A Nice Car by the looks of it don't let it eat away at you just get it on the road and enjoy it!

Can you point out where in this thread the VIN number is?

It's on the auction sheet someone posted a few days ago, as jimmer noticed
