It's that time of year again where the Zed's insurance is up for renewal. I'm currently with ClassicLine and they'd like £322.58 to insure her for the coming year.

I keep seeing people boasting about how they can insure their Zeds for £150 a year so I thought I'd give Footman James a try...

For a start, they don't recognise this club as being a valid one! I'm assuming that I'd need to be a paid-up member of Z Club or something?

And I couldn't get a quote from them anyway as apparently the Z32 is no longer recognised by them as being a classic and, even if it was, the modifications would stop them quoting anyway!!

So who do people use? How much do you pay? And why the bloody hell is it so difficult for me to get insured on this car?!

Grrrrr!!

I had no issues insuring with footman James back in February mods included. Strange!

Insurance Companies are very hard to understand and you never know what way they are going to quote you if at all. I did an online quote with Footman James but after filling it all in it didn't work so ended up ringing them and got a quote of £352.35 with all mods declared and a agreed valuation of 8k. This is more than your own company's quote Si so maybe better sticking with them.

Just like to add that no photo's were needed or club valuation.

Footman James can't do online quotes for Zs it seems for everyone it seems, but give them a call. Worth a shot.

I gave them a call this morning, Ali; the Zed's no longer classed as a classic car by them and they won't cover mods (even though mine are relatively tame in comparison to others) :(

I can only assume that these people who claim to insure for £150 or so all have bone-stock cars, or at least claim they have.......

I haven't tried recently, but my Dad got £160, and my zed has alot of mods.

Maybe they stopped it. :(

Insurers are ridiculous, but I've never heard of that happening before!

They use anything for an excuse to ramp up the costs, could be down to the area you live in, ie. Guys in the country can get insured cheaper than guys in the cities (less crime) all insurance companies over here have put up their fees even though there's been less accidents / claims. The Irish Government is thinking about getting involved over here with one TD (MP) arguing to link both road tax and insurance into the price of fuel, the more you use the roads, the more you pay.

I'm with sky insurance at the moment, £312 a year, 5000 mile limitation, £15K agreed value all mods declared

I've always rated FJ for the policy perks that they offer, however the price for those perks has always put me off. Lancaster insurance were the most competitive for me this year at £192 with no mods declared and £192 with all mods declared (a comprehensive declaration of literally everything that I email to the company to run by the underwriters before they quote). I find that generally, the mods make little or no difference to the premium, it's the power output or increase % that pushes it up.

My total for this year including breakdown cover, 5k miles, 10k AV with SD&C was £232.

Il be interested to see what happens this year then, mine is due for renewal next month and I'm with footman James. It jumped up last couple of years, the first year 3 years ago it was £150 then £200 and last year £250. I've stuck with them because they still honour my policy even though I no longer have a garage. Sounds like I'm going to be forced to switch.

Keep us updated Stephen.

I just went with classic line again , No garage, agreed value of £10,000 for £260........ with 5000 miles limited.....

I was bombarded with calls by a company representing Adrian flux, 20 calls in a week.... Now barred on my mobile for harassing me while I was at work and won't ever give them my number again.....

Try classic line Stephen, they were polite and very helpful...... and cheaper than last year for a change.....

Watching my Z disintegrate on my driveway!!!

Are you getting these quotes online Stephen or phoning them up?

That was by phone, a very helpful lady. She was quite embarrassed. Apparently the cheaper suppliers opted out due to "the class of the vechile" what ever that means.

Lancaster and Lynbrooks always came good on classic, agreed value policies.

Footman James? They did give me a competitive quote (once) after I called a guy called Dave, after meeting him at the NEC one year. But the minimum in price difference was not enough to persuade me to change.

Adrian Flux? Whilst they are a respected trader on here, I have to say that they were not even worth the 'phone call... Hell, I'm in my mid-40s, clean licence, live in a low crime area and the car has minimal modifications.....

This year, I did a deal with Admiral - as I have my SLK and Julia's Land Rover on a multi-car policy with them - and they covered the Zed for a little over the £200 mark. All mods declared and all the benefits I had with Lancaster. Plus upon adding the Zed, I got even more money off the other two policies - which sealed the deal!!

Otherwise, Carol Nash is always worth a punt too. As said, it's a veritable lottery with insurers sometimes. One may quote you happy one day and have you in tears the next....

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I just renewed with classic line 302 this year,9k agreed value.

Great team of people, always happy to help and easy to deal with.

I am with Classic Line, it up for renewal next month.

Last year I paid £292 for 3k mileage limit, garaged, all mods declared. Will be interesting to see what the renewal costs will be shortly.

If say it's my age, mods, location but I'm 30, my cars not as modified as some of the others cheaper here and I live in a low crime area.
