just watched first 20 mins...first impressions, predictable and lacking energy...still, give it time.

Ye, I do think star in a reasonably priced car needed spicing up a bit.

its was more like a game all the way through top gear was the best back in 1990 to 2000. also wheeler dealers now is shot in the usa and its really lets the show down

It felt a little forced, especially the laughs, and lacked chemistry. I like Matt Leblanc but he seemed uncomfortable in the studio (wondering if this is still live). I did like the German girl though. Give it time I guess.

I'm watching Top Gear Extra on BBC3 (online) which was meant to be behind the scenes stuff, but just seems like more Top Gear with unknown people.

Chris Evans May over time find his feet with this show, but for me matt Leblanc and Sabine Schmidt just doesn't work. I think the bbc should have wiped the slate clean and started with a whole new approach.

Well watched the whole show and it seems the first 20 minutes was a marker for the rest of the show. Evans as ever over hyped, Leblanc narration could send you to sleep and the challenges inevitably have been done before.

The audience seemed very lackluster which I understand may be explained due to the repeated shooting of the sketches which ran into the evening when they were meant to be finished by mid afternoon. I read the first original guests pulled out and at the last minute they called in foul mouth and the US side kick.

I'm sure they will get more comfortable with it if they keep the series running (ratings dependent) but it won't be essential Sunday night viewing for me anymore.

Ile firmly make sure i dont watch it again ever...massive anti-climax with presenters that are just too sterile and manufactured plus Evans gets right up my nose and has done since his very un-funny friday night risky television shows years ago.

I watched the first bit with the Viper and Vette in that crappy 'challenge' and it was enough for me lol. Absolutely horrendous.

The old one was getting stale with the scripted junk anyway so for me they should have just put top gear to bed for good.

Yeah, it was really a summary of the whole thing, it was all scripted and the challenge was pointless. The spin out was obviously staged and it was all to cringy as it didnt even look real. Why would the challenge be to be the one in behind?

The rest was pretty staged as well, randomly flying a drone into a wall... 'oh these challenges were for a 1 second headstart' etc. it was all to forced...

It was like a facsimile of the old TG, but without the chemistry......

At least Matt Le Blanc demonstrated that Americans can do sarcasm. But Chris Evans? I was disappointed - he was way too hyper, darting about shrieking as if on speed, like he used to be on his old shows. Yup, he's enthusiastic and a petrol head; but where's the professionalism in his delivery...? Sorry, but he was as irritating as an itchy anus.....:nono:

Still, the filming on location was quality even if the challenges were a re-hash of what we've seen before. Will I watch it again? Probably - it was the first episode so I'll give it a chance.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Well I watched it on Sunday, then watched the first episode of old top gear on Netflix the next night and it was like night and day.

On the positive:

- Love the idea of junking the old track and putting in some rallycross. Much better than rehashing the old track again!

On the negative:

- No chemistry or camaraderie whatsoever between Evans and LeBlanc

- The power of 3: Clarkson/Hammond, Clarkson/May, May/Hammond never worked - it just never did. Add in the 3rd person and it all just worked.

- LeBlanc pouting every time he delivered a line

- LeBlanc live

- Chris Evans voiceover doing a Clarkson

...and by far THE worst offender, wasting Chris Harris

For anyone who hasn't watched Chris Harris on Cars on youtube, watch it - toward the end he was getting close to the production and editing of any of the good clarkson sections.

He was the one point I thought they'd get right as he can drive the buts off a car, talk to camera, he's a total geek and funny with it. Sticking him with a YOOF presenter ("Yo blad, it's BBCIII innit") he looked totally out of place.

THE SOLUTION

Get rid of LeBlanc, put in Plato or someone with a strong personality and used to driving and talking and move Harris accross to join the team and you'll find it works alot better.

I think this season will be a bit of a write off but remember season 1 of the new top gear with the fat guy instead of May and you'll remember it wasn't that great. Give it another season or two and things will finally gel. I don't envy being thrown in at the deep end of having to come up with a concept, get the staff in, film and write an entire series within 2 months of being told you have the job so for that I commend Chris Evans but the first episode against an average clarkson and co top gear doesn't even come close.

Grade C - Must try harder....

I watched this on iPlayer yesterday when I got back from Turkey and it was just painful!

There's far too much that has been carried over from the previous iteration of the show; the Stig's introduction, for example. It felt to me almost as if Chris Evans was just a stand-in for Clarkson, rather than trying to make the show his own. His intros to the films were far too reminiscent of JC to be comfortable.

I didn't like the gag about no longer talking about catering either... I hope "The Grand Tour" is absolutely chock full of jokes about gingers and marrying girls half your age in retaliation!

Most of the audience looked either bored or uncomfortable when the cameras landed on them, as did Matt LeBlanc. As has already been said, there was no chemistry between him and Evans whatsoever. That said however, I'd actually be happy to see Evans get the boot and LeBlanc take over as lead host! There was just something a little endearing and slightly amusing about his dialogues when he was out of the studio and I wouldn't hate to see a lot more of that.

Jesse Eisenberg looked like he hated every single second he was there...

All in all, I doubt I'll be watching any more of this. Perhaps if I remember that it's on, but I won't be going out of my way to watch or record it now.

I don't really get what all the fuss is about to be honest... I thought it was more of the same old painfully forced and scripted crap top gear has been farting out for the last 5 years! It was exactly what I expected it to be tbh. Top gear has been rubbish for a long time, this is nothing new

I watched some of it, and it just felt to me like they were trying really hard to make it the same as before. If it was the same that is not a terrible thing, just the fact that they made it look difficult not easy, which is how the old one appeared. Ultimately, it's about the chemistry, not the cars.

BBC3

Tbh the BBC is on a downward spiral in my opinion, they do make one or two great programmes but the likes of channel 4, sky etc blow the pants off them. If anyone's been watching the history channels, Viking's you will know what I mean, bloody fantastic. The beebs days are numbered I'm afraid most under 30s are disengaged with it as a whole.

Yep, I haven't watched TV in years...

Exactly, I watch seriously limited amounts of proper TV myself. On demand services etc are far better. Tbh if I'm home alone the TV stays off, il be doing other stuff, unless it's the depth of winter then the playstation goes on. Back on point though, TV as we know it is a dying concept and a public service such as the Beeb, funded by a tax you must pay to have a TV wether they use there service or not is making less sense by the day.

I agree - and even more so because we are still forced, by law, to cough up £140-odd a year to fund it!

The government should scrap the TV licence and make the BBC fund itself, in the same way commercial channels have to. There is nothing left to justify the licence fee in this day and age. This is Great Britain, a supposed free-world democracy; not Soviet Russia or some tin-pot 3rd world banana republic....

Pretty much Richard look at what BBC1 & 2 have on offer at prime time this Friday and Saturday night. A crap game show, seriously, does anyone think Pointless is a good programme? Don't worry though because after this and the news at gone half 10 at night that new film Die hard with Avengence is on, this film was realesed in 1995, a great film but it's older than Alic!!

Don't even get me started on Itv, I'm pretty sure thier purpose is to make the scum class feel part of society, when your greatest achievement is Jeremy Kyle and Simon Cowell, oh you get the point.

This is of course very off topic now, but I'm always stunned by how short sited people can be when it comes to the BBC. The license fee structure is of course outdated, but people only seem to talk about the TV. What about their radio and news services? Got to think of them as well, your moneys not just going on TV, they do a lot and provide a lot of services.

What gets me though is that people don't think about what TV would be like if the beeb didn't exist. Because it has no adverts, other channels can't have too many because it would look too bad compared to the beeb and people wouldn't watch. Take the beeb away, and they'll go nuts. Ever seen American TV? Absolutely unbearable nonsense on the most part, you would spend 1/3 of your TV life watching dreadful adverts, sports would be bursting with cringing product placements.

The news would degenerate into the awful biased crap they have in the US as they don't have to compare themselves to the (supposedly) unbiased bbc.

All sounds like my idea of hell, best £140 you could spend!

Though I get if you solely watch on demand and nothing else, must be pretty annoying, but I don't think there can be many that ONLY watch that, regardless of what they may say
