I went with thinking another way to everyone else I spoke to......

If it were a vote for us to join the EU, knowing what we do about it, laws, unelected officials making decisions, immigration, propping up Greece and the euro....... would you vote to join?

Too much false information and muddying the waters by both sides........

The EU to me is exactly like the 'Eurovision Song Contest' everyone helps their neighbours and we get 'nil point'.......

only my view though.....:euro:

Seeing as how the vast majority of economists say we get more than we put in, and the £170mil a week or whatever our net contribution is is pennies, the fact that 2/3 of immigration is from outside the eu, and companies will still have to meet EU regulations if they want to sell their goods there, err yea I would!

...and there lies the problem. My beef with the referendum is that vast swathes of the population are taking their information from the wrong sources, not from economists. Whilst I voted 'remain' (and proudly so), both campaigns are FULL of scaremongering rhetoric, BOTH of them.

I work in international and European business and have taken my information from credible economist sources (and have based my choice on that) and have ignored (totally) both campaigns as they’re both bunkum and filled with nonsense. The awful tabloid press we have in this country don’t really help matters either and sensationalise anything that makes a story whether that be in the interests of the population or not. I purposefully steer clear of it all, not least because I can’t stand tabloid media.

In its most basic format, the better our economy does, ie, the better our businesses do, and the more foreign investment we see, the more money these businesses create. When business makes good profits, government will expect more taxation revenue entering into their coffers. With more money, the government can spend money on public services such as the NHS and education.

The membership costs we pay allow our business to access the free market, this means they don’t have to pay duties when they trade. This enables them to trade more which also means they will make more profit. Remember, higher profits mean more taxes to the government which will in turn be put back into public services, this includes the NHS.

It is shown, by the vast majority of economists that we get more money this way, so we get out of Europe more than we put in. It’s a membership fee, but the benefits we get are worth so much more than the fee. This is basic economics.

To put a vote out ‘could’ (which is high-risk) put Britain on the brink of recession and devalue the pound – whilst this in itself could be considered ‘scaremongering’, it is a very real ‘threat’ that can’t just be ignored and forgotten. This could mean less jobs, less immigrant workers (who pay into our tax system) in our hospitals which means longer waiting times which will have a knock-on effect with the cost of living etc. This is just one thing, but with a bit of research, you’d see how much stronger Britain has become since the G20. I personally am not willing to take the 'gamble' and leave - the bankers did that and look what happened.

I think the referendum is a wonderful opportunity for people to have their say and I respect either persons choice and so should everyone else, it’s just a shame that BOTH the campaign trails have given more BS rhetoric and in turn have confused and angered the electorate in the process – it’s almost a shame that politicians and the media have gotten involved and had overbearing bias on or one or the other, but I guess, how else would you conduct a referendum – more clear and concise data would be a good start giving the electorate the right information for them to be able to make up their own mind in a more qualified way. Ignore Cameron and ignore Boris…..and The Sun and all the claptrap being spouted by both sides of the camp.

Good post, agree with it, but not sure if you're saying what I said is wrong or not :-P

No, I'm agreeing with it and highlighting the fact that most of the information being churned up and dished out is not from leading economists, it's from bullish politicians and crass tabloid newspapers - on BOTH sides.

Sounds like good news to me. Not so much for the EU.

Eirexit next? :p

If this is the start of a domino effect as predicted there may not be an EU for Eire and Scotland to remain part of. Pressure is being put on particularly in the Netherlands and France for further referendums.

Interesting times ahead and a lot of sweaty moments for the the political establishment.

Me too. I'm pissed.

Two years you say to leave?

That's democracy mate, the majority wins. You will be fine your young enough that it won't effect you much, by the time your in a position it will in about 10 years, everything will be settled.

A sad day for the UK. The value of the pound has already plummeted. 'Leave' campaigners suggest this is a 'temporary blip', but how on earth do they know? Sure, markets will take time to re-align, but this gamble....is just that.

If it carries on like this how on earth will it not affect him?!? It's going to affect everybody! He still has money, will ness to buy food when he leaves home, goes on holidays, needs to buy parts for his zed which is gonna cost a fortune now. By 26 he'll probably be paying rent or a mortgage or whatever.

Really looking forward to paying for my zed when it arrives.... need to find out if I pay duty and tax on what I actually spent when I bought it, or the equivalent when it arrives. Had a lot of parts I wanted from America, gonna cost a lot more now.

What a joke, we all say we're a great, accepting, multicultural society. No we're not, we're a bunch of insular, racist biggots who don't care it's my generation that's gonna have to pay for all this.

Why racist? Seriously, why are you classing the ENTIRE United Kingdom as being racist bigots....?

Everyone is saying this vote was won on the basis of immigration. Only 1/3 of our immigration comes from fur EU, people just voted that was because they're fed up with johnny foreigners

Well alright 51.9% of them anyway

So, without knowing the first thing about me, you're happy to openly call me a "racist bigot"...?

Just wow... this is what I've hated most about this whole referendum!

Sorry but that's not right. At 26 he would be lucky to have a proper job let alone a mortgage with the average age about of that step now 32. I can also relate to mondos reaction. This attitude that out overs are a bunch of uneducated racists is crap, they are in fact comprised of normal people and were the majority of the voting electorate, more so if you focus on England. Infact the only place it seems remain has much success in England was London which does not reflect average Britain very well at all.

I feel the decision by the public, is more importantly about being governed and ruled by Brussels and losing our rights in our own country. There was always going to be an interim period of panic and gloom and doom about the unknown but lets face it most of us have not felt any recovery from the crash and as the situation continued it was only going to get worse for the majority of the public.

If other EU countries are considering to follow our lead at this time, then we are not the only ones who feel the same about the bureaucracy and the situation needed a change.

It will be for the best in the long run for the masses rather than the select rich, just my opinion of course

Blimey it's only a figure of speech, chill out

How is calling someone an "insular, racist bigot" simply a figure of speech??

You can't just go throwing things like that around without a thought!

As I said, this is exactly what I've hated about the whole thing: that someone is prepared to classify me as a racist based on nothing more than the fact that I voted a different way to them... so very sad, really...

What do you think people do until they're 26? Sit there and twiddle their thumbs?!? You either leave school and get a job, or leave uni at about 22 and get a job. Unemployment is not that high. How are they not "real" jobs.

I didn't say they were uneducated, I just said they care more about immigration than anything else.

Oh and that might be the average, but I know plenty of people 26 years old with mortgages, hence my assertion that he might have one
