As Pete has been giving me an ear bashing I thought I had better post a few pix of the rebuild.

I did a fair bit of testing during 2015 and competed in quite a few events despite having a cracked and / or porous block. This left me low on power but I hope to have sorted out suspension and a few other issues that should help to make the car a lot faster.

Looks like a lot to do still and there is however I hope to be back on the track and testing in time for the new season. I plan to do more in the way of sprinting and hill climbing but of course ten of the best remains the primary event for me. Probably do Brands Hatch in time attack in club pro.

The main aim in the rebuild is to move weight to the back as far as possible. In addition I will be trying a few new ideas and I will add a few more photos as I get them over the next couple of months.

The zed definitely won't be ready for Brands Hatch though potentially it might be there for some testing with the old engine on the Saturday test day. Still fingers crossed for TOTB.

So I will have to use my Evo at Brands. We have just got it working and I started testing today so not all bad news then I guess :)

Just awaiting the lines and then into the car. Dry sump fitted with pump and superdamper looking good.

whats the pros and cons of the damper ?

whats the pros and cons of the damper ?

They are built for high performance engines generally a quality build with quality components. It's a harmonic to reduce vibration pretty much at all RPM. For me though the biggest advantage is the reliability as this is what will be running my oil pump can't afford it to fail :)

This is an epic build! i'll be keeping my eye on this one :thumbup1:

what did this set up cost ?

Engine is in but one of the scavenger pipes fouls so some thinking to do. Now the front end is much more efficient at cooling and looks great methinks.

The adapter plate cost about £1K

thats not bad is it. what did you box its self cost and what ratios are in it vs the stock box ?

never talk money my missus would kill me if she knew :) it's a 'lot' of money! I don't know the ratios as they are custom. I am still using my Richmond gears and asked Quaife to maintain the first gear as is on my PPG dogbox so that my drag starts will still be similar to what I'm used to. Then I asked that top speed was 217mph so sixth is set for that. All other gears are equally spaced though due to the high top speed they are pretty long but I'm sure I will cope with that.

how do you think this will perform of the line vs a stock box. are you having any issues putting all this power down if so how did you over come this the ? the light rear end of the zed struggles to put the power down of the line from what i have seen,

This will not be better off the line than my dogbox can't really comment on a stock box but my PPG box was the same ratios. No problems putting the power down I've managed a best 1.51 60 foot at Santa Pod and a 1.53 60 foot when I did my best 10.92 quarter. Last year at TOTB my 60 foot was top five overall the real problem is the gear changes which mess my times up. Don't forget that's with 500llb rear and 700llb front springs! My car isn't built for the quarter mile but I do enjoy it and the sequential can only help the overall time.

Selling my PPG 5 speed helicol cut dogbox if you want a truly great gearbox and sounds brutal :)

PS. And last year at TOTB I was only 400rwhp as my engine was mullered.

to get a zed to launch what grounds would you say to cover. apart form good rubber ?

Holy balls. Do you have the na diff?

Yes :)

That's not a simple answer. I think matching the tyre with power is important. No point in too much tyre will simply bog down, too little will spin the wheels. Obviously with the turbos you need to maintain the boost so I get my best times by using the clutch keeping it in boost. My times have improved with time so I do think practice makes perfect. Try different things and get a feel for it. I don't even bother softening the rear these days just use whatever my track settings are and go for it :)

Unfortunately the zed will not be ready for TOTB. As this deadline can't be met I am going to give my wallet a rest for a little and let it recuperate. In the meantime here are a couple of pix and I think they show we are going to the next level. I think it will be worth the wait. I will pop a couple of engine shots later when I get it off the trailer.

Dan the z32 doesn't have a light rear end. The weight distribution is near perfect on 2+2s and slightly a few % heavier on 2+0s. The reason for poor off the line traction relates back to a large amount of anti squat built into the rear subframe assembly and the oil filled bushes it floats on. Plenty of info on Google.

Sorry to spam your thread Bob.

I notice you said to Ali you have the NA rear end, do mean an actual NA rear end or NA ratio, r200 diff and axels or an r230 with leader gears?

i see thinking back when have the 2.8 z3 it had loads of rear squat and the car would launch easy every time, so how can we over come this issues ill start a thread so we dont spam this one

Looking good, hopefully I'll finally make totb next year, would like to see this run in person, maybe even line up alongside ( I know I'd lose but would like to see how close i could get)

I've not had issues off the line, my zed flies through first, but normally end up pedaling into second as it has a habit of getting out of shape.
