bobgenie Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 As Pete has been giving me an ear bashing I thought I had better post a few pix of the rebuild. I did a fair bit of testing during 2015 and competed in quite a few events despite having a cracked and / or porous block. This left me low on power but I hope to have sorted out suspension and a few other issues that should help to make the car a lot faster. Looks like a lot to do still and there is however I hope to be back on the track and testing in time for the new season. I plan to do more in the way of sprinting and hill climbing but of course ten of the best remains the primary event for me. Probably do Brands Hatch in time attack in club pro. The main aim in the rebuild is to move weight to the back as far as possible. In addition I will be trying a few new ideas and I will add a few more photos as I get them over the next couple of months. Quote
Gaz 300 Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Looking forward to the updates on this Z Bob and love the first pic of that engine. Thread moved to Motorsport section. Quote
Slick Pete. Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 As Pete has been giving me an ear bashing I thought I had better post a few pix of the rebuild. Indeed!! Extreme modified 300ZXs are rare in the UK and are of interest to a number of members on here. For the benefit of newer members on the forum here is where it all started. I went to Bradford and bought this freshly imported all original NA manual on Bobs behalf...... Quote
Slick Pete. Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 And here we are at one of the early trackdays we did at Silverstone. By then it was a well modified TT manual but still fully trimmed and nice to drive on the road...... That didnt last long... Quote
spiff Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Damn! More please ☺ Sent fra min C6903 via Tapatalk Quote

bobgenie Posted February 19, 2016 Author Posted February 19, 2016 Some really nice work for the fuel tank and some better catches. The front is coming along nicely :) Quote
bobgenie Posted April 12, 2016 Author Posted April 12, 2016 Painting the interior now completed and ready for the next stage. Still awaiting a part for the gearbox so getting impatient with that. Now we have to re-wire hopefully for the last time ever! We have all the parts for the dry sump and hopefully by the time those components are assembled we will have the gearbox in and ready to test the dry sump with the old engine. Still hopeful for Time Attack at Brands and TOTB don't want to do any of that in the Evo Quote
Gaz 300 Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 Thanks for sharing Bob and hope you get it ready for Brands. Quote
bobgenie Posted April 29, 2016 Author Posted April 29, 2016 Here are a few photos of the radiator install. This should improve cooling as we will prevent any air going around. We were fitting the Daily dry sump to the old engine which we shall use for testing but found that a corner needs machining off as it causes the sump to foul the crank. Next job is a new race loom but mostly now we are simply re-installing parts which hopefully will mean some testing soon. I hope the next photo will be of the gearbox install however we are struggling to get a rebuild kit for the HKS Triple plate clutch. I will use the old one for testing purposes and keep fingers crossed we can sort it. Quote
Hollings Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 I do like thay radiator setup, i was thinking dual pass for mine but i had other issues to take care of. More epic. Quote
bobgenie Posted May 9, 2016 Author Posted May 9, 2016 A few more photos of the build it's coming along nicely. Slow but sure I'm hoping we don't hit any more delays. Quote
bobgenie Posted May 12, 2016 Author Posted May 12, 2016 I needed a little machining done to the sump pan took it too Andy Robinson today who turned it around in three hours! So he works as fast as he drives top man :) So here it is trial fitted to the old engine and fits perfectly now. Some custom intercooler brackets made which position the side mounts perfectly and you can see how the new ducts will help with effective cooling. Quote
bobgenie Posted May 12, 2016 Author Posted May 12, 2016 Some stealth Zircotec here will also help with keeping things cooler. Boxed in the dry sump oil tank as MSA regs now just needs welding. Quote
monj98181 Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 Great job !!!! The pics are so cool and really you have do spectacular work. You modify it so well. Thumbs up. Quote
bantambunny Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 As always amazing work Bob and an inspiration for any 300zx owner :D Quote
bobgenie Posted June 2, 2016 Author Posted June 2, 2016 Thanks guys we are progressing and I will have a few more pics by the weekend. Not looking good for Brands Hatch time attack round sadly so will have to be the Evo (hopefully finished this weekend). We have trial fitted the dry sump to the old engine and stripping the guts from the original oil pump as will be using the pick-up. Once the new gearbox arrives we will have to measure up for a custom prop. Patience is a virtue so they tell me :) Quote
