Hi,

I'm from The Netherlands and own a 1990 Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo.

I bought it about 4 months ago, it was offered for parts, I immediately bought it from internet without seeing the car itself in real.

It has no transmission or engine in it (yet), but I didn't cared.

I saved it and want to restore it completely one day to it's original showroom condition.

Here are some photos from the day I picked it up...

Most interior parts where stored inside the car, the rear bumper came also with it, so for most part it was complete.

Only one inerior panel is missing and the drivers window. (+the engine and transmission then)

  • I brought the Nissan convertible to the warehouse where it will stay nice and dry. I also removed the mudflaps, looks much better without them...

  • Thanks for the tip!   Here are some more photos after I just washed the car...

I'm going to reinstall the front bumper soon to get rid of the ugly gaps. (I hope)

I thought about that, but I think it's not worth it, the car is way to nice as it is and besides that, it's a great car to cruise with on nice roads.

Maybe one day I will buy another one and convert that one into a TT.

Nice example just drop a TT engine in and it’ll be perfect lol

NAs sound nicer when you floor it. Nice rasp from under the bonnet as the V6 comes on song as there aren't any turbos to get in the way. If memory serves, I think I read somewhere they have cast iron headers as well (but that may be a senior moment).

Mine has a special RVS exhaust system, and I can tell you this, the sound is reaaaaallly nice from it!!!

Next time I will make a video from it, so you can hear it too.

Thanks!...I will check it next time I'm going to it. (it's temporarely in the garage of my parents, but later it will go to the warehouse where my other cars are stored aswell.

Yeah, well...in the past I had 21 cars.

I had to sell a lot of them, because the parking spaces I needed to rent in the warehouse became to expensive for all cars, so I had to sell many.

These were the cars I owned, mostly Mazda Xedos 6 ones, because I love that model, so I started a collection with them.

PS.

What is the weight from a convertible, anyone?

I have not registered it yet, so I don't know how much kg it is.

  • Author

I have no idea what the weight is in kg and which one it is on the sticker...

ps. Good point about the roof! LOL!!:D

GVWR I think is the Gross Vehicle Weight. Divide the pounds (LB) by 2.2 to get kilos. The other GVWR I think are the weight for front and back axels

Sent from some app that I don't know how to use!

1990 Black MT NA LWB = 2014 - 2020 (Sold)

1991 Red MT TT LWB = 2015 - 2017 (Stripped & Scrapped)

1991 Red MT TT LWB = 2017 - 2021 (Sold)

1991 Black MT TT LWB = 2018 - 2021 (Sold)

1989 Red AT TT LWB = 2021 - XXXX (Kept)

Gross vehicle weight is usually the maximum allowed weight when full, not the actual weight

Somewhere on the forum is the weights of all the varients

I seem to remember the vert is the heaviest of all the NA models

Does anyone has an original front bumper laying around?...(for a 2 seater or convertible)

Today I tried to adjust the front bumper better to the drivers fender to get rid of the big opening...

DSC01590.jpg

...but without success.

I strongly have the idea that it's a replica bumper and not an original one.

So, that's why I'm looking for an original bumper.

I’m fairly sure that no one produces an aftermarket replica/pattern front bumper for these cars, even in the US. I would pay particular attention to the structure around the mounting points that you’re having trouble lining up as it may have had a small bump in the past that has bent something back slightly. Also, all you need is an N/A front bumper to replace your original as they’re all the same regardless of 2+0, 2+2, convertible and targa top etc.

The convertible and 2 seater version is a little smaller then the 2+2, the front bumper not?

Normally the line of the bumper where it meets the fender is straight, mine is curved, that creates the hole.

Will take a better photo from it, so it's more clear.

This is what I mean...

Maybe mine is just messed up, that someone cut it.

That does look a bit deformed. No, the front bumpers are all the same. The only variations are between N/A and TT (TT also has its own variations between JDM/EUDM etc but N/A are the same regardless of wheelbase or roof type).

Have you taken the bumper off yet?

That section of the bumper is secured by two nuts. The fixed bolts are attached to the wing, they go through two holes in the bumper then a metal bracket, you fix and tighten the nuts which pulls that part of the bumper close to the wing. I’ve attached a picture of my bumper and bracket to give you an idea of what I mean.

I can think of a few reasons it might not be sitting flush.

1, Someone has not tightened these two nuts up or the nuts are missing so it’s not been pulled flush to the wing. You can check this by removing the indicator light fitting to look for the nuts.

2, The bumper and/or metal bracket went bent when the bumper was last removed. The culprit didn’t notice until they put the bumper back and couldn’t be bothered to remove the bumper again to straighten.

3, The wing where the fixed bolts are fitted has been bent out when the bumper was last removed. Again it went in noticed until the bumper was refitted and the previous owner couldn’t be bothered to remove and rectify the problem.

Unfortunately if it’s reason 2 or 3 you’re going to have to remove the bumper to have a proper look which will take a bit of time, around 45 minutes. I found this video helpful...

It's indeed badly deformed, I don't think it can be corrected anymore.

I removed the two small nuts in the top, but still was not able to get it nicely matching up with the fender.

Nut sure or there was a metal bracket, but still then, the gap is way to big in the center of the straight part. (where I draw the red line on the photo above)

I'm affraid it only can be solved be replacing the bumper itself.

That's a nice one, love it!

I want to keep it original, also I already have a TT version with the small grills in the lower section from the bumper, I like it when the other ZX is different. :)
