As per the title really. I've watched some YouTube videos and decided, bodywork is clearly easy.

So, with that in mind, I'm going to fix my rust back arches today, myself. Wish me luck but I'm already past the point of no return... Photos to come as always but there's currently a big hole lol

Looks like the inside of your arch is rusted through there, mate! Anything you do here is going to be a temporary fix at best... :(

Good on ya for getting your hands dirty again though! :thumbup1:

What he said. You can cover that up but there's further problems behind. Some proper surgey will be required there mate in the near future.

Cut that lot out! You've only got through surface stuff as it's rusted through from the other side. Cut it out and weld in new arch panels otherwise it's going to look a mess VERY quickly.

Yeah, its definitely a temporary repair and its only to last for a little while until I can get it done properly. I thought about doing a lead repair but decided not to yet.

Will let you all see the result when its finished... Providing the weather stays ok

Ended up glassing it mainly.

Have you thought about how your going to paint it? Are you going to paint the whole panel? Blending it in will be really hard. Just take your time getting it smooth on the primer coat, it's crazy how tiny defects suddenly appear once the paint goes down.

Not to mention the fact that black shows every possible imperfection too!

I'm just chucking it on lol. I've been debating on getting a body shop to spray it but I'm gonna give it a go first. Still be loads better than it was. It's starting to spit on to rain though so think I'm going to stop where I am.

FINISHED

What do you all think? I get it'll not be perfect, but didn't cost much really... Just labour intensive I guess as I did it by hand

That's not a bad job actually Lee.....

.....But I echo the thoughts above mate. I had a couple of small bubbles on the same arch - I had my body-shop fix it, but before the year was out, the bubbles returned. In the end I bought the replacement arch from MPJ; had the rotten section cut out and the new one welded in. It's the only long term fix....!!

I have the arch in the cupboard. Just can't afford to pay for the fix yet. So thought I'd have a go myself and then sort it properly after the winter sometime

Yeah this is it. I'm happy to do, or at least try stuff myself. I'll see how its turned out properly tomorrow. Its raining now which I'm guessing isn't great for new paint

UPdATE - I went to see my mate at the paint shot and we decided to take a hammer to the rest of it and really get all the rust (outer panel) and bad metal out. So, I've started again with a lot more holes lol.
