Staying up north has its challenges at time with the bad weather.

But as a lesson learned when working on the engine I now strap the bonnet down with a bungee cord.

How many folks have been caught out and the wind caught the bonnet and slammed it down ?

Three years ago mine did exactly that and I knocked a chunk out my wing and bonnet as the bonnet

holder happened to fall outwards when the bonnet slammed.

But a bungee cord in the right place will stop that from ever happening now :)

Mine went the other way and fell back against the windscreen. It cracked the scuttle panels. I thought I'd just heard my screen smash and for a moment considered drinking the 10w40 I was holding to end it all

I had the same thing, typically it only cracked my passenger scuttle panel (the one that always breaks and can seldom be bought used!) but also slightly bent up the corners of the bonnet. How it didn't crack the windscreen I don't know! This happened a few years ago and I fitted a new bonnet when I had it painted and binned the old one.

A bungee cord is a bit primitive there Lee with all that fancy bling you have going on; maybe you should invest in one the them bonnet stay gas strut kits? [emoji6]

actually got a set to fit from two years ago but never liked the idea of trying to fit it myself.

I used to have that problem (live at the top of a hill) but I've since fitted a gas strut from a Citroen C2 boot lid and now it stays still when I'm working on the engine and that damn bonnet stay is no longer in the way.

Mine flew up and hit the windscreen too in the wind. Scuttles survived but the bonnet had some nice folds in it!

I have the WinFactory strut kit fitted to mine and it's super-sturdy now. Bonnet was open today in the wind and all was perfectly fine

I just work on my car in the garage, saves agro.

You are what we mere plebs refer to as "privileged".... :tongue_smilie:

I added a bonnet strut to this one and it's the best thing i've fitted to a zed - no more silly rattly bonnet stays and no problems of it blowing over :)

Peasants can rent garages, it's not expensive. :wack: I will be doing this soon as I downsize for 6 months before my new house is built.

Actually I'd really like some bonnet struts, just not chromed ones. Not a fan of the aftermarket kit you can buy either as they come with flimsy metal brackets.

I think mantav8 adapted some from another car to fit ours. Looked much more 'OEM'.

Peasants...?! :glare:

No flimsy brackets or chrome struts on mine, sunshine - sturdy colour-coded brackets and black struts for me. Win :thumbup1:

Seriously nice front end there! Is that a '99 spec with a lip?
